Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

Let’s be honest and say that we don’t really know! It’s only those that have become public knowledge ( who have had affairs.)

It might be more interesting (and difficult) to list politicians who were/are always very moral in their private lives, never had an affair:

Theresa May
Margaret Thatcher

(Two women so far)

Short list hmm

Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron have been added
James Callaghan? Edward Heath? Harold MacMillan?

Chestnut Sat 05-Jun-21 11:48:04

Now it's Boris knew my father ?

trisher Sat 05-Jun-21 11:46:32

MawBe that's the point of it- Lloyd George knew my father (he might in fact be my father!)

I’d be more worried if the song went “Lloyd George knew my mother……” ???

trisher Sat 05-Jun-21 11:38:21

Do you suppose he thought the baby was one of his Fanny? 'Lloyd George knew my father' and all that

Chestnut Sat 05-Jun-21 11:18:14

Wow Fanny! What a great story. Weirdly I think these experiences might sound scary but then people say they did not feel scared at all because the atmosphere was not scary.

B9exchange Sat 05-Jun-21 10:11:30

I know there have been comments about those starting threads and not coming back to them, but I just posted the news as it happened and you lot just took off! I can't believe it is still going, but what ever keeps you entertained. smile

My friends mom (who is probably the least 'woo' person that I've met) swears that she saw the ghost of LG.
And I believe her wholeheartedly.
She had recently given birth to my friend; and her, her husband and the baby went to stay in a holiday cottage in Wales.
One night she woke and saw a kind looking man in spectacles leaning over the babies crib, peering in fondly at the baby.
She learnt the next day that the cottage once belonged to Lloyd George.
Isn't that lovely! smile

Lovetopaint037 Sat 05-Jun-21 09:38:54

Lloyd George was highly intelligent and was known as the Welsh Wizard. He was a great manipulator of situations and his thinking was described as like quicksilver. He was a great PM and yes because of that his womanising was more or less accepted by the public. Now we move to our bumbling PM.......well think about it........Hmmmm.

It still shocks me about John Major and Edwina - always the quiet ones!
Wasn't it around the same time that Cecil Parkinson had an affair with his secretary, Flora Keys? I remember finding that sad as they had a little girl with health issues and I don't think he supported them.

Do we really know that much about every politician living and dead? I couldn't even name every MP serving at the moment let alone comment on their private lives, moral or immoral

I thought the issue with Johnson was that he is amoral.

Whatdayisit Sat 05-Jun-21 08:07:49

Ffion Hague wrote a book about Lloyd George's women. I wonder if she is busy now writing another!

Surely Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron can be added to the never had an affair list?

*Chestnut*Lloyd George had his critics.
This article written just as his government celebrated 1 year in power is critical, but even more interestingly some of the criticism miight be applied to Johnson archive.macleans.ca/article/1918/2/1/the-faults-of-lloyd-george

That's kinda my point. He was a renowned womaniser, loved by the people but definitely flawed. Many did not agree with him or his methods. Sounds familiar? Yet he was one of our greatest Prime Ministers.
Maybe the people just want someone who's glass is half full, not half empty.

I don't know anything about Carrie Symonds being sacked for wrong doing but it would not surprise me as she does not seem to be a very moral person, in spite of her claim to being a Christian.

As for Boris Johnson he is the very model of a thoroughly immoral person- such a habitual liar he has been sacked at least twice for lying, he is sexually incontinent to the point of not seeming to know how many children he might have fathered and he will do anything that he thinks might serve his own ends, even conspiring to have someone assaulted - as Eddie Mair said to his face - "he is a nasty piece of works."

The great mystery is how anyone with a conscience could possibly vote for him.

You can feel the venom pouring out here, can't you? My goodness. It's making me feel quite queasy. ?

lemon presumably you don't believe then that behaving in a questionable way in one's private life indicates loose morals, which mean you will act in the same way in your political life? If you lie and cheat in private you will lie and cheat in public.

Lloyd George was a renowned womaniser and steered the country out of WW1. After that he was so loved by the people the King was quite jealous of his popularity. I believe some of his methods were a bit dubious but he was still one of our greatest Prime Ministers. Sometimes being a paragon of virtue doesn't always bring the best outcomes, nor does it endear you to the people.

I never liked Clint Eastwood much but think Hugh Jackman is lovely!

Happy to oblige!

Callistemon is that really Hugh Jackman? He looks different maybe it’s the hat. ?

At first glance I thought it was a young Clint Eastwood - Spaghetti Western era.

MawBe you are not a mistress if you live with a man unless that man is already married. Co- habiting is a different thing- sometimes known as 'living over the brush'.
What would you call a woman who is having a sexual relationship with a married man? His girl friend? His bit on the side?

MawBe Fri 04-Jun-21 10:38:04

I too hate the term “mistress” - all my daughters lived with their now husbands before they married.
I similarly hate the expression “ make an honest woman” or “fallen woman “ (me too oftengrin) “love nest”, “love child” and indeed the assumption that marital breakdown or divorce can simply be laid at the door of a “roving eye”, “bit of skirt” or “sultry temptress”

Surely we have grown beyond this sort of tabloid/Victorian prudery speak?

lemon realy? - "mistress" is old fashioned but Many men have affairs with somebody before they divorce their wives, if they loved their wives or had worthwhile marriages that wouldn't happen
Talk about confused!!!
As for Boris's political morality- it matches his personal. It doesn't exist. Brexit bus, Garden Bridge, Jennifer Accuri, Test&Trace, proroguing parliament. The list goes on. Face facts. He will do anything, to anybody as long as it benefits Boris
