Good morning, everyone, from a dull but warm Torbay. Welcome to Maw and welcome back to Cherry.
Like you grandMattie, I haven’t slept well, partly due to the heat but also my brain was in overdrive after a busy day. I wish you luck with your travelling. Would a taxi be a better option for you than the Tube? Safe journey and enjoy your break.
The wet weather yesterday brought more visitors to the museum, including families from various parts of the country. As we had another chap to be the smuggler, I played the part of the poet, Priscilla Shrives, throughout the day. It was a joy to interact with the children who were fascinated by my Victorian parlour and stories of my childhood on Berry Head. One dear little girl, aged six, proudly told me that she could now read books with chapters!
Priscilla was influenced by Rev. Henry Lyte, whose Sunday School she attended at his Vicarage where she delighted in the access to books afforded to her. Rev. Lyte composed “Abide With Me” and employed Mr. Shrives as a coachman. The poem was written when she was 11.
My last day at the Museum. Thank you for all the interest shown in this project and have a good day. ?
