this tidal wake of woke nonsense has to end, many of those fighting these ludicrous battles dont seem to know what they`re fighting for anymore, Just take the new advice handed to university lecturers at Imperial college london, They have been told not to compliment foreign students on their english, .Apparently it could be considered a racist micro aggression. how absurd !
you would have thought a nice bit of praise from a teacher would be welcomed if you had taken the effort to learn a second language, but its just another sign of these ridiculous times we live in, Institutions are so concerned with avoiding every little PC pitfall that they`re tying themselves up in knots , our universities are supposed to be full of the brightest and best academics , yet all many of them seem concerned about is dodging proverbial bullets from snowflakes

JaneJudge I really hadn't commented about Stonewall, or suggesting they are ignored. I was saying what I think of the word "woke".

Artaylar Sat 05-Jun-21 15:20:46

I've not been on GN for that long, though I have noticed a steady stream of 'woke trolling' OPs recently which TBH for the most part just look to be p....s taking a wind up.

In my mind they are best just ignored - and leave the few who agree with them rattling around in their own little echo chamber.

Casdon Sat 05-Jun-21 16:31:19

I agree with you Artalyar.
I’ve wondered before, is earnshaw a plant?

Lucca Sat 05-Jun-21 22:49:27

I speak the truth PippaZ, like it or lump it. I'm not some clone or a " yes" person.

What does this mean ? Clone of what ?

PippaZ Sat 05-Jun-21 23:07:24

Interesting point Artaylar. I hadn't thought of it like that but it certainly is. Next time just report it to GNHQ I think.

Giant hogweed, perhaps? Poisonous and causes a nasty reaction in anyone who touches it…

Op started another thread titled 'football'
It was deleted with the message that it was being taken down while GNHQ 'check some things out'

The plot thickens.....

Anyone been on Mumsnet this morning?

Thread on the Coronavirus section, about vaccines. No capitals. Familiar user name. ?

Lucca Sun 06-Jun-21 07:05:50

Can’t see it

nanna8 Sun 06-Jun-21 07:13:29

Nasty and selfish- that is what I think when I think of 'woke' . Funny that.

I think that I may have to hide this thread.
I cannot f**** stand the word 'woke'.
'Wokes' is even worse! I thought it was an adjective, not a noun.

Anyway, it sounds as if op is encouraging its use as an insult to a group of people (feminists, homosexuals, people of colour, you get the picture)

It's like the 80s all over again, when The Sun shamelessly made up stories - banning black bin liners for example.
(I don't have a bin obsession, honest)

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 07:20:30

Alegrias yep, it's them alright

What I find irritating is that there are a number of posters (admittedly a minority) that rather than debate in an open and intelligent way, simply resort to either name calling or behind the hand remarks.

I can’t understand why, if they don’t want to engage they bother at all.

When people are called stupid and right wing, on here, it does tend to put people off discussion, as everything they say will be attributed to those two words. I do find that any discussion in which people disagree, especially if you have Conservative views, on here are lambasted as being right wing, with all the disgust it can muster.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 07:34:01

Lin I rarely partake in N&P threads, but I do find that the 'righties' can give as much as the 'lefties'.
I don't think that they are a downtrodden minority on Gransnet!

Alegrias1 Sun 06-Jun-21 07:38:04

I've never seen anybody called stupid on here. Maybe I just go to the wrong threads. Some people, however, do have a persecution complex.

The woke shall inherit the earth. Some people are going to be so disappointed ?

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 07:48:15

Did anyone report the thread for being inflammatory and 'fake news'?
I've had posts removed for these reasons (also 'unkind') when they were absolutely nothing of the sort.

(They were about the late Duke of Edinburgh, before he was late)

I don't understand why this crap should be allowed to stand.

^My conclusion is that the current agenda of anti-racism, coming to us via the States, has taken attention away from a far more dangerous and invidious view of women as objects being threaded through the minds of boys and men by pornography, and that that is currently far more dangerous than racism, which is recognised and generally considered unacceptable^

Just imagine being black and a woman, MOnica...

It's encouraging to hear that some of the younger generations are becoming more ope to diversity and disapproving of racism. But it is still rife in older generations.

I agree that misogyny is a huge and ongoing problem, but I really can't see that one has to chose between decrying racism and decrying misogyny.

Racism and misogyny, have encountered the latter personally, the former as a young wife in service quarters with my niece, from mixed parentage. They were out playing, a child called her a racist name, and said child was immediately shouted down by my daughter. Proud of my lass. A generalisation of racism is rife in older generations does not equate with what I have seen through my life working with the NHS, although I was once called a white b…., by a West Indian lady who I went to attend. All age groups and communities can have misogynist and racist elements, to single out the older generation (white is the impression I have) is an unfair generalisation. www.theguardian.com/education/2021/mar/28/uk-schools-record-more-than-60000-racist-incidents-five-years

what are N&P threads? That mumsnet poster is definitely the same person isn't it?

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 08:12:36

Nanna8 what did you mean?

Jane news and politics smile

M0nica Sun 06-Jun-21 08:33:51
