"I tawt I taw a puddy-tat, a-creeping up on me! smile
That brought back memories! Our weekend newspaper magazine has an article where the author is reminiscing about old film credits versus modern .when they were brief and appeared at the beginning, opening with Mr. Muscles beating a gong (Warner Bros); The Lion (MGM); Paramount and so on, followed by the Film's title, Stars, Producer, Director then straight into the action.
Now they appear at the end in an endless scroll of everyone involved even including "best boy" and "grip"
and the family names of the caterers who provide sandwiches for the crew.
At least when viewed on TV the delete button on the remote comes in handy!
Now, that is progress! grin
Good Health

I’ve always wanted to know what the ‘best boy’ does!

I was watching a film the other evening, I had missed about 5 minutes at the beginning so wanted to watch the credits. They went through so fast I blinked and missed them.

Always wondered what a 'key grip' was too.

A further irritating problem now is that the rolling credits at the end are compressed into half the screen to make way for adverts for forthcoming programmes
Reading the date of the film is then impossible! sad

opening with Mr. Muscles beating a gong (Warner Bros)

The man who beat the gong for J Arthur Rank (not Warner Bros) came to our school to give us all an afternoon's concert. Naturally, as teenage girls, we were all very excited but were astonished when a small man walked on to stage.
He was the percussionist who actually hit the gong and he gave us a most amazing afternoon's entertainment.

I think he was James Blades, musician and percussionist

Just googled them, key grip is the one who sources all the camera equipment they need, best boy is the foreman to whatever department he's working for, ie grip (camera) or electrical.

My mother had a very ancient 78 record of ‘I tawt I taw a puddy tat’. It used to make me laugh so much when I was little.

What annoys me is the long list of credits for every member of backstage staff, yet dancers are usually lumped together as the 'Douggie Squires ensemble' or the 'So and So singers or' whatever.
