I am thinking of getting this for my 9 1/2-year-old grandson, has anybody got one of these for any relatives and if so what is your experience please?

Several of our GC have one as do our nieces, parents and children are all happy with the cards.

There are many parental controls which can be activated, I think the charge is currently £2.50 per month.

My three eldest grandchildren 11, 9 and nearly7) have these .
It works well - although I’ll be honest I and admit I had never heard of it before. I suppose it’s like the PO Savings Bank accounts we had as children.

They can use them like debit cards in shops designated by parents, but only up to the amount they have on the card.

There is an app which works alongside, logs pocket money added, chores done, monies taken away for bad behaviour etc.

Correction I have just seen the ad on TV Go Henry cards are £2.99 per month or £4.99 if you want a customised one.

Do the children have to have a mobile phone or is it done on their parents phone if I set it up?

It can be done on the parents phone.

I know a lot of parents who recommend this, as you can send messages when you put some credit on the account.
We looked at it, but I'm afraid that I balk at the charge - a rather old-fashioned view I am told!
Nationwide have a current account that carries a basic debit card for those over 11, which seems more sensible to us.

Two of my GCs (14 and 12) have had them since March because the local buses, that they take to school, now refuse to accept cash (!) and their parents found this cheaper than any bus pass. Their pocket money is put on it, and their birthday money before they go off on a spending spree. Seems to work well.
