Wear blue eyeshadow and eat margarine.

In my early twenties I slept at New Street Birmingham all night after missing last train to South Wales, on a chair in some sort of waiting room the guard keeping an eye on me occasionally. Sleeping on a patch of grass in Chartres when everything was OCCUPE. We were woken by a gendarme and saw we were in front of a memorial (hadn't seen it in the dark). He checked our passports and directed us to Chartres Cathedral where we spent a couple of hours listening to nuns singing before things opened up.

You could have mine, Witzebnd. 36C, 5ft 1in and a size 10, my cleavage was a curse! My doctor friends described it as the 8th engineering wonder of the world. blush.

Witzend Thu 01-Jul-21 12:35:06

Be a size 10

Drive with a little dd standing up in the back! Not in the U.K., but it was pre U.K. compulsory seatbelts anyway.

Be upset that I didn’t have e.g. a 36B bust and a cleavage.

As a student, slept in railway stations overnight, to save money, while travelling around Germay. My mother would have grounded me, if she had known.

...think I was fat when I weighed 9 stone - now I am fat sad

go to nightclubs until 3am, get home and sleep for a couple of hours, then get ready to go to work all day.

Smoke.
Such an idiot.
Result ? Mega wrinkles.

I can relate to the poster who said she different clothes for home and college!

jenpax Thu 01-Jul-21 12:26:30

Used to be able to run! Now since my cancer I can barely walk without needing frequent rests!
Sleep on my stomach
Look good without makeup whereas now 2 hours of prep and I still look old and overweight ☹️

Such memories. I had a pair of shoes that were black one side, white the other.

Woodmouse Thu 01-Jul-21 12:23:02

Care what other people thought about me!

Kate1949

Go to bed with sellotape across my fringe to stop it from curling up when I had my 'Mary Quant' hairdo.

Yes, I did that too.

Also had a hoop in my petticoat and made petticoats with lots of layers of net.

Then I made a circular skirt by putting a big piece of material on the floor, calculated the radius of the circle needed to go round my waist and marked that. Then I measured down from the waist to get the hem length. I can't remember how I managed the zip though!

Black eye liner, blue eye shadow and off to Liverpool in the 60s. It was all quite innocent, no booze and lots of dancing.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 01-Jul-21 12:20:40

Sellotaped the sides of my ‘Mary Quant hairdo’ (I wish!) to keep them straight. When I’d grown my hair longer my cousin swears she one day found me ironing my hair straight, using Mum’s iron and the ironing board. I have no recollection of that, possibly because I loathe ironing so have blocked the memory! ?

DanniRae Thu 01-Jul-21 12:14:17

Go to a club on Saturday night - stay all night - go home Sunday morning and go to bed and stay there till I got up for work on Monday morning!!

What a fabulous thread Sago, thank you all for your 'confessions' . It will be interesting to see how this one evolves. Have a good day ?

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 01-Jul-21 12:00:35

Did all of those things and lived to tell the tale, thankfully not many people took photos in those days, so most of my make up and wardrobe choices are in my memory and not all over the Internet!
I never smoked or took to alcohol so I’m grateful that I had some sense and with pale skin, freckles and a tendency to break out in a heat rash, I never sunbathed.

ninathenana Thu 01-Jul-21 11:59:59

Dance until 2 a.m. then walk home barefoot.
Eat Vesta curries.
Cycle on a daily basis

H1954 Thu 01-Jul-21 11:59:57

Pluck my eyebrows and save some of the longer, darker 'hairs' and apply them individually as false eyelashes ? Obviously had far too much time to spare, looked very natural though at the time.

glammanana Thu 01-Jul-21 11:55:23

Have blacked eyes as per Dusty Springfield and deep fringe like Kathy McGowen couldn't see where I was going most of the time.
White boots with mini skirts and very pale lipstick that made me look ill to say the least.

ElderlyPerson Thu 01-Jul-21 11:53:16

receive prescribed medication simply labelled as "THE TABLETS"

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 01-Jul-21 11:53:11

Wear a full slap of make up - foundation, blusher, powder, mascara, eyeshadow and lipstick. Now it's just eyebrow pencil (or something more substantial - hardly any brows) and lip gloss. Lipstick only on special nights out and there hasn't been one of those for ages.

Do aerobics which was quite energetic in a leotard.

Worry about what other people thought of me.

ElderlyPerson Thu 01-Jul-21 11:52:00

eat food without first checking the ingredients list!

Callistemon Thu 01-Jul-21 11:48:30

Coconut oil!

Take off my shoes to walk home from the bus in my stockinged feet in case the neighbours started saying to my Mum "My word, your Call was a bit late home last night!"

Never wore a seatbelt because they hadn't been invented.

greenlady102 Thu 01-Jul-21 11:44:54

care what other people think

travelsafar Thu 01-Jul-21 11:41:38

I use to lie in the sun covered in oil to get a tan!!!!
Now i hide away and wear factor 50.
Alas the damage is done i fear.

emmasnan Thu 01-Jul-21 11:34:23

Wore hot pants and mini skirts, too much bright blue or green eyeshadow, seemed to like unsuitable boys, travelled around London alone on buses etc and never seemed to get lost - I can get lost in my own town now I have no sense of direction!
