Unfortunately my toaster has decided to give up the ghost, so plans for a cheese toastie went west ! I was looking on JL website and saw these -
Gorgeous - but the price !
It’ll be Argos for me unless I get the lotto up !

lemongrove - shame on you ! Implying that Lady Maggiemaybe would frequent such an establishment ! Everyone knows they have no parking outside for her Rolls Royce ?

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 14:32:09

All I can say Infinity ( in a Red Dwarf-ish kind of way ) about that toaster is SMEG!

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 14:30:36

Maggiemaybe

The poser chap on the next table to us at lunch yesterday was obviously very proud of his velvet D & Gs. All eyes were on him….

I looked them up later. They’re a snip at £975.

I bet he’s got the toaster at home.

I think I saw him too Maggie and I would have waved if I had seen you, in McDonalds in Heckmondwyke wasn’t it??

The only time I was ever in a posh restaurant was when I was a waitress ! Ah those were the days ! Not ?
Sure you’re not Lady Maggiemaybe !
Enjoy your holiday - you lucky thing ?

Maggiemaybe - by gum you must lunch in some posh places if the patrons are wearing such expensive footwear ! ???

Ah, we’re on holiday, Infinity2. We’ve upped our game temporarily. smile

I wonder if Craig Charles has SMEG appliances in his kitchen?

FarNorth Sun 11-Jul-21 10:40:35

I still can't take appliances seriously if they have 'SMEG' written across them.

Savvy

For £500 I'd expect it to grow the wheat, mill it and make the bread as well as the toast! No toaster is worth that much.

Spot on Savvy

Infinity2 Sun 11-Jul-21 10:29:53

My niece has got one of those robot vacuum cleaners that go round the room by themselves, I know they’re a lot more expensive than the Goblin cylinder I’m still using. I’ve had it many years but it still works !
( Probably since it’s only been used about three times since the Coronation - Queen Victoria’s ???)

Blossoming Sun 11-Jul-21 10:20:57

I expect people were staring because he’d gone out in his slippers.

Georgesgran Sun 11-Jul-21 10:20:39

I think I’m getting out of touch in my dotage. Like Savvy I’d expect a lot more for £500 but isn’t a Dyson vacuum that sort of money and their hair dryer/curling wand are a ridiculous price too! For £500, I could get 4 new tyres for my car!
Suppose it’s all down to personal choice?

I wouldn't have realised and would have thought he'd forgotten to change out of his bedroom slippers ?

Callistemon Sun 11-Jul-21 10:15:57

It probably has exactly the same elements as all other toasters of varying prices - all rather patchy and with built-in obsolescence!

timetogo2016 Sun 11-Jul-21 10:15:21

Same here Blossoming.
I chuckle every time i see an appliance with that on,especially a fridge.

annodomini Sun 11-Jul-21 10:10:52

velvet shoes? Was he wearing his slippers?

Oh heck, DH is always bringing artisan sourdough back from our local market. blush It’s nice, but makes awful toast that would have your fillings out at one bite. I keep it well away from my free (secondhand) toaster.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sun 11-Jul-21 09:23:45

Blimey OP - I suppose one must put that posh sourdough bread in it too, you know the 'artisan' type which also costs an arm and a leg. For those with more money than sense.

And how upset would you be if you were burgled and the miscreant ran off with the toaster?

Witzend Sun 11-Jul-21 08:17:29

I wouldn’t want that in my kitchen! I can see why some would like it though.
I wouldn’t want anything SMEG either, my brain always thinks of those two extra letters…..

I have a smeg dishwasher and it certainly isn’t the best I have had.
My toaster came from Sainsbury’s and I would have to go downstairs to check on the make but it is very good and probably cost circa £25.

Infinity2 Sat 10-Jul-21 21:34:51

I was upset my £12.99 one has gone to the great scrapyard in the sky. If it had cost that much I think it would have been me giving up the ghost.

Jaxjacky Sat 10-Jul-21 21:34:40

Blossoming ???

LauraNorder Sat 10-Jul-21 21:33:09

Crikey, I hadn’t realised that was only a two slice model, crazy.
