Is this the most agonisingly cringeworthy thing ever ?!

Callistemon Mon 12-Jul-21 15:23:58

MerylStreep

I absolutely love his voice ?

?

I don't mind it either.
In fact, I'd rather listen to him than some of the commentators and TV correspondents I've listened to lately; screechy women whose piercing voices hurt the ear drums and Put-a-Tennis-Ball-In-It John McEnroe.

I love his voice too. I love a posho.

His accent isn’t posh. Ave you heard a posh accent? It is nothing like Smogg. His accent is entirely an affectation and there isn’t another person in the country who speaks like that squirt.

I am confused, why is it the most cringeworthy thing ever, the original poster must live a very sheltered life, I mean its a politician giving a dumbassed speach, they do it all the time, thats not the worst ive seen

Ihave already been accused of leading a sheltered life and have answered that. Read the thread

Very apt graycat.

I'm with Lawrence.

Nothing sounds right out of context. Its a good football song. Anyway who cares.

MissAdventure Mon 12-Jul-21 13:25:55

Oh, he certainly wants to be heard, alright.

BRAVEBETH Mon 12-Jul-21 13:24:09

I love his voice. I can understand every word he speaks. He wants his thoughts to be heard by all unlike those who mumble mispronounce and generally are hard to understand.

He was educated in exactly the same place at the same time as many of his political contemporaries, and yet he chooses to adopt a cadence and pronunciation style of a deliberately antediluvian and mannerly nature. It’s an affectation. His speech is deliberately affected for attention, in exactly the same way as the Kardashians’ speech is. This is why people mock him. It is transparently inauthentic.

Agreed!

MerylStreep Mon 12-Jul-21 13:11:49

grandtanteJE65 Mon 12-Jul-21 12:57:29

The man is making a point by quoting a song that I personally have never heard, but that apparently you all have.

So he is quoting a well-known source to make his point.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that, and no, it did not make me cringe - the word " cringeworthy" had already done that.

NoddingGanGan Mon 12-Jul-21 12:53:19

No

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Jul-21 12:50:41

Some people live very literal lives.....

Shortlegs Mon 12-Jul-21 12:26:46

Personally, I'm ok with it.

moleswife Mon 12-Jul-21 12:25:46

Give me strength! He is so full of himself - good job 'cos no-one else is!!!

GraceQuirrel Mon 12-Jul-21 11:44:49

And John Barnes couldn’t rap for toffee anyway!
JRM has a great sense of humour and can take the pee out of himself with the best of us. Don’t judge a book by its accent!!!

HannahLoisLuke Mon 12-Jul-21 11:43:22

Sounded ok to me, but then I hate all rap.

Lucca Sun 11-Jul-21 19:11:09

Vast myriad….tautology surely ?
And I mentioned those in response to your accusation of having led a sheltered life and not getting out much.

Lucca Sun 11-Jul-21 19:09:29

Oh dear I was not being literal. Would you prefer me to say is this a cringeworthy thing ?

As a matter of fact I do find JRM antipathetic but I’ve tried to say..again and again .. any politician would have looked silly doing that.

I have to say I think your post was extremely rude-and I guess you are ignoring mine.
Why are you so keen to rush to his defence by the way ?

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 19:00:28

Of course Lucca didn’t mean to be taken literally
It’s how we speak now, isn’t it?

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 18:58:30

Bodach
I would have thought that was evident
It’s not that big a deal
Lucca was sharing a member of our parliament being a tit

Bodach Sun 11-Jul-21 18:47:14

'Is this the most agonisingly cringeworthy thing ever ?!'

If you truly think so, Lucca, then:
1. You appear to have lived a sheltered life, and
2. Perhaps you should get out more.

I'm with Callistemon and JenniferEccles on this.

How do you define sheltered? I’ve only lived and worked in four countries /speak four languages /have taught in inner city and leafy suburb schools / have travelled alone through the USA, flown alone to Australia four times/ have experienced and survived cancer, but if that is sheltered, so be it.

This week I’ve been out for lunch twice played two tennis matches two games of bridge and visited two friends, so maybe I should get out more.

And in all that vast myriad of life experiences, Lucca, THIS is the "most agonisingly cringeworthy thing" you have ever come across?

You really don't like Mr Rees-Mogg, do you?
