Oh yes fly screen- I have one of those, but it was actually bought to stop baby starlings blundering into the house and causing poo-ey chaos, but the knock on effect are less flies.

We have plug ins to keep flies out and spiders

I'm in the country too, we have flies, hornets at night attracted to the light, and big spiders. So we got roller blind fly screens on most windows. I can now have windows open at night. Also a hanging metal chain on back door deters most flying insects.

Dyson with death !!!!

Lilypops Wed 14-Jul-21 22:59:21

My method of catching the horrible flies and bluebottles is to have my Dyson on full power and sneak up on the little blighters with the narrow attachment on the end. Gone ! Up the tube never to be seen again. Beats thrashing round the room with a rolled up newspaper smashing all the ornaments but not the fly. ?

My Nan used to have one of those multi coloured striped blinds many years ago what a reminder I didn’t know you could still buy them.

Used one of these when we rented a house in the middle of a dairy farm. Works a dream and makes every entrance and exit seem like you're going on stage. Ta da!!!!

Should add ….. no flies.

I have a mesh screen on the back door. It has central opening with magnetic closure and works magnificently. Walk through and it closes behind me every time. This is its second summer and it remained up all winter/ tied back.
It looks tidy and clean. DH wasn’t so sure at first but is now a convert.
Was about £20 off Amazon.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased online one of those electric zappers with the blue light that some shops have. It`s zapped quite a few, makes a loud cracking noise every time, but hasn`t been tested against a wasp yet, hopefully won`t have to be.

Carpet/clothes moths are my problem.

Happyme Wed 14-Jul-21 22:15:57

Yes Whitewave, more than happy to have a few spiders about the house, webs and all ???

Jaxjacky Wed 14-Jul-21 21:55:12

Red top flytraps work very well, but they stink, so not too near the house.

Nandalot Wed 14-Jul-21 21:41:46

Flies not so bad here but today the thunder bugs have arrived. These are tiny, thin black bugs that get in your hair and make you feel all scratchy. Does anywhere else get them or is it just rural Lincolnshire?

tanith Wed 14-Jul-21 21:36:05

I have a fly screen across my back door which keeps most of them out can't abide flies in the house.

Rolled up Newspaper might do the trick.

You could set up a mosquito net contraption in your dining room.

I’m sorry I’m not being very sensible.

I also hate flies in the house, that’s why I never ever kill spiders are destroy any webs until they are obviously not in use.

Ro60 Wed 14-Jul-21 21:22:27

Make rather

Ro60 Wed 14-Jul-21 21:22:02

A bunch of mint deters flies. As does lavender, bay, Eucalyptus - probably a few more but this was an easy bouquet to !and up.

Happyme Wed 14-Jul-21 21:16:10

Same problem here Luckygirl, hazard of living in the country I guess. They leave horrible marks about the house and I am sure they bite too!!! I chase them around with a fly swatter, they are fast little b*****s tho.

Luckygirl Wed 14-Jul-21 21:14:14

But they excrete as they eat.......grim! Especially on my food!!!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 14-Jul-21 21:12:16

They are good for the birds?. And spiders

Luckygirl Wed 14-Jul-21 21:10:08

They are everywhere! Coming in off the cow dung in the field behind, so they are not going away anytime soon, unless there is an epidemic of bovine constipation round the corner.

What do you do about flies in the house? Those sticky papers are so gross.
