Shouldn't be moaning as its Summer but even in shade i can't tolerate it...used to be a sun worshipper in the 70s now i hide in cool house☀️

I heard the other day that by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. So people should sip water constantly when it’s hot.

drink plenty and stay out of the sun between 11am and 2pm.hate this humid weather . i already drink lots of water to keep hydrated due to kidney problems .

Fennel

My right knee, which has osteoarthritis, also suddenly gave up last night. I could stand up this morning but turning left was agony.
I rested all morning indoors
Maybe some of those crumbling bits inside the joint had found a better position? Then suddenly it was ok!
Whether it was connected to the heat God only knows.

I’m like that if I sleep in an odd position (usually so the dog can stretch out more….).

Ah, thank you both. smile
It is rather a strain when I'm like a boiler, bubbling away.

I had a light bulb moment today and decided to expose my arthritic knee to the sun, having been careful not to put Voltarol on it for a day or so. I always used to feel so much better, joint wise, when I went abroad for my holidays. It’s the first time my knees have seen the light of day for many years and even then it wasn’t very hot as we went to Kefalonia and it rained all the time. We then went to Cyprus and it was TOO hot to sunbathe. Expose yourself to the sun for two minutes and you got sunburn.

Hi MayBee70, I've widespread OA and unfortunately when i expose my knees to the sun, the inflammation flares up later and am left thinking why..thought natural sun/heat would improve Vit D on all bones? but my knees don't improve ..in fact hard to move legs today they feel like they are in cement blocks!

Perhaps your knees are ones that respond more to cold. I try to do both. I used to love having a long sauna and then having a cold shower. I miss that more than anything.

Yes.
I was working yesterday.

I think that many of us are lucky on Gransnet that we are retired. Imagine working in this heat! Anyone working?

Another sun lover here as well.
Although I can’t sit out in the garden for too long now.

But I’d rather be too hot than too cold.
Had a lovely cool bath last night.
I think three showers a day to be excessive.
It won’t last, so make the most of it while you can.

MayBee - has it helped your arthritis though ?
I don’t find Voltarol does anything for me but when the gp used to prescribe Diclothenic tablets they worked brilliantly.
Of course they stopped them years ago as they said they killed you or something.
A small price to pay for getting the pain under control !
Hope your heat/sun treatment works - if not at least you won’t have legs like milk bottles.

The Voltarol gel is diclofenac too. I never found the original 1% did anything, but the new 2.16% marketed for joint pain does help a lot. I also find that when I apply it at night it makes me sleepy, which helps. (I was quite surprised that a topical preparation would do this, but I googled it and it is a listed side-effect)

M&S do 1 tog duvets.
Brilliant!

MissAdventure Mon 19-Jul-21 17:26:30

It's unbearable to even do nothing in!

Daftbag1 Mon 19-Jul-21 17:17:19

I'm moving on Thursday, and the heat is unbearable to pack!

Another one surprised by the heat here in NE Scotland. I’m not complaining, though I’ve never been a sunbather, I quite like it. It’s just great not to need a jacket, or even a cardigan. Warmish evenings are a rare treat here, and it feels like being on holiday.

I don’t really know. I couldn’t believe my knee suddenly had a bad flare up years after the first one. I think it’s because I haven’t been going to the gym and doing knee strengthening exercises because of the pandemic. Just walking, which is what I’ve been doing doesn’t strengthen my knee. Over the last few weeks I’ve used Flexiseq and Voltarol but a couple of days ago switched to Ibuleve: something I haven’t tried before. And I do feel a lot better. Maybe it’s just a coincidence. I sometimes wear a patella strap but I’ve got a feeling that makes my knee worse. I couldn’t walk up the stairs one night a few weeks ago and nearly asked my daughter to get hold of a crutch for me. Maybe it’s just easing off. Given that this heatwave looks set to last for a while I’ll give the sunbathing a go!

TeacherAnne hooray I too love it we have about 350 days cold wet grey days which we have to put up with and we get a couple of great days and here comes the groaning thread I could understand it if it went on for weeks and weeks but it’s been cold, grey, windy and rainy most of the summer I can’t believe people are starting a thread after one day

Trouble is we never have it long enough to get used to it, it will be back to the usual next week, wet, cold. enjoy while we can.
