Shouldn't be moaning as its Summer but even in shade i can't tolerate it...used to be a sun worshipper in the 70s now i hide in cool house☀️

At last, it’s summer and not raining! I have got nothing to do for a few days ( still waiting for my social life to get back to pre pandemic levels) so am able to lounge around keeping cool. So far I have been lying on my bed with the fan on, north facing room with a slight breeze but must try to motivate myself to empty the dishwasher and tidy up - cleaner due tomorrow so need a tidy house to let her get on with cleaning! I’m planning on sitting under my patio awning this afternoon doing some crochet and puzzles, no need to cook as got cold chicken and salad in fridge and will leave watering patio pots until late evening.

Bliss!

I can’t stand it either. Far too hot, it was lovely at 6:30/7:00 this morning, shame it couldn’t stay like that!

It's glorious! And think of all that lovely Vitamin D you're getting!

Just spent the last 4 days in a storage unit emptying it - 42 degrees, no air conditioning ??

Lillian40 Mon 19-Jul-21 12:20:52

Its true the humidity and heat of the sun effect us more as we get older. I lived in Western Australia many years ago, and could cope with 112 degrees, I am now 80 and feel sick and dizzy even indoors with this heat. If this is going to be a regular thing for Britain, with climate change, it would be a good idea for Contractors to build British houses with built in Air Conditioning, at least it would be available if we wanted to use it. I have seen in the news already, that old people have died because of this heat, so sad, if only they could have had someone provide them with a cooling fan, I know they aren't that marvellous, but they may have got some relief.
Why are British people known for there self satisfied nature. When I was a child and growing up people were so much more caring about each other. We respected our parents and respected authority. Why has that all disappeared. If only parents would allow there children to grow up and stop pampering them, even at 18 + they are still taking all there responsibilities away and doing everything for them, including raising there babies and toddlers. If you have children then take the responsibility as a parent, not wanting to live the single life while dumping the baby onto aging parents. I didn't do this for my children and they dont do this for there children, I am a Great Grandmother. I can be proud of all my family ,they are sensible, caring and have respect.

I never ever sit in the sun. Haven't for 35 years I treasure my soft skin too much. I have a parasol on my jetty so will sit under that this afternoon and sew or read....heaven

Janey- aeroguard or bushmans prevents them. You can put an oatmeal paste on a bite, works for some. Also bicarb. I get some anti itch spray from the chemist.

Got up early and tackled the ironing mountain before it got too hot. Now it's time to put another pillow in the wash, great weather for drying them, soon will all be done. After that it's try to find a shady spot outside to sit and read.

The mist over the fields at 5am this morning was truly magnificent smile

Unfortunately I was bitten to buggery yesterday sad insects they just love me so much, my elbow has all swole so I suspect the one is a horse fly. Do any of you have any tips for keeping them away in the first place?

Don't forget to reapply sun protection unless it will be evening when you are next outside.

I was out watering the garden at five thirty this morning. Couldn't get back to sleep and thought I'd take advantage of the cool of the day. Probably be dozing by 3pm...

Beautiful weather, unfortunately I’m still working as a contract cleaner at age 66, so it’s very hot work? I hope to enjoy summer next year when I’ve hopefully cut my hours ☀️?

As the Climate Change threads get ignored, I find it odd that a thread about the heat (and other extreme weather conditions) get loads of replies.
This is likely to be just the start, extreme heat and extreme rainfall.
Time to do something about it.

Agree.

Normally 76 degrees is my comfortable limit - DH has drawn all the curtains to keep the house as cool as poss. Yesterday i sat in front of the TV and fell asleep!! The dog is hiding behind the settee, in the garden she's found two hedges to sleep between. (wish I were a dog!! Am going to see if there are any paddling pools left in Morrisons!!

I hate the heat, makes me feel grumpy and uncomfortable, verging on ill and anxious. Some clouds would be welcome. Sorry to be a killjoy.

flowerofthewestx2 Mon 19-Jul-21 11:11:10

Due to exhausted and hot baby hedgehogs I've made a shaded area over their hoghouse. One baby at rescue, found in feeding station too exhausted to move. Now in air-conditioned hospital, recovered nicely. Back when it cools down.
Roll on cooler, normal, weather

glammanana Mon 19-Jul-21 11:07:36

don't understand what happened there^^

I'm and really works.enjoying the weather I do keep in the shade during the day if I am out and about and keep cool by running cold water over my wrists several times a day it keeps the blood cool and really works for me.

Alioop Mon 19-Jul-21 11:03:20

Alarm set for 6am to get my wee dog out for her walk before the heat kicks in. Home, the awnings out and we will sit in the shade. Gone are the days when I lay all day in it, hot flushes and the heat, I'm about to combust and bloomin red hair and freckles not a good combination either. Come December though I'll be moaning I'm too cold.

Redhead56 Mon 19-Jul-21 11:03:19

timetogo2016 you have just reminded me to make some more ice cubes for my wine.

Maggiemaybe Mon 19-Jul-21 11:03:17

In 1976, pregnant with my first child, I spent August in the living room, with curtains closed, and my feet in a washing up bowl of cold water.

That must have been difficult, rowyn. You’ve brought back a memory. Not that remarkable year, but another hot August, DS was 2 weeks overdue and I spent days lying down on the sofa or in a tent in the garden supervising two toddlers, evenings crying tears of self-pity in a cold bath while DH took over. smile

Bazza Mon 19-Jul-21 10:56:09

I don’t mind it as long as I’m not expected to do anything.

Redhead56 Mon 19-Jul-21 10:55:01

There was a time we actually got distinctive seasons. Now the weather goes from from one extreme to the other. I hate the freezing cold being arthritic it causes me more pain and makes me miserable.
I have never been a sun worshipper having had second degree sunstroke when I was young. Call me a moaner but sorry this is too much for me.

Namsnanny Mon 19-Jul-21 10:54:22

It is true though, that we suffer the heat more as we get older.

I can remember always being cold as a young woman.

Is it something to do with our hormones and the lack of them as we get older?
