Does anyone have ASDA online deliveries?

I had been using ASDA for some years before lockdown using cheap midweek annual pass, for large cat food /heavy stuff deliveries. Come Covid I got a weekly delivery spot and they have been fantastic here. They bring boxes to the door and and we unload into the hall. We are still marked on their records as shielding. Not many substitutions and if anything is low on date I go online on after and request a refund, no problems at all.

I would ring their customer service if you don't want the crates and they will come and collect them.

Elderly Person, the reasons I recommend shopping trolleys for online home deliveries is they are easy enough for driver to load, are fairly rain proof, and best of all can be wheeled over a doorstep even by someone quite frail and thence through to the several parts of the kitchen where they can be unloaded directly.

I use Tesco. On my order form I have left advice for the driver to please leave my groceries in two shopping trolleys that I place at the front door.

Sometimes the driver has done it all before I know he is there, and when I go to the door at the dog's barking he waves to me from the roadside which is very nice and friendly. Never in two years of Tesco has the driver left the plastic baskets that held the groceries.

Yes, similarly I put boxes on the doorstep and unload after the Tesco delivery driver has gone.

I find it strange that the Tesco circulated emails never mention such an option.

They always mention elderly and/or disabled having shopping delivered into the house as long as they do not have COVID-19, or going to the door and unloading while the driver stands two metres away.

Yet never any mention of boxes, trays or trollies on the doorstep, and no explanation of what happens if the elderly and/or disabled customer has COVID-19.

Nor the situation if the elderly and/or disabled customer who has been totally isolated has been pinged because someone the other side of a semi-detached party wall has COVID-19. Though that is a recent phenomenon.

I wonder whether two metres is effective, bearing in mind that if one opens the door on a cold day one still feels the cold air even if one is still inside the warm house. So would that movement of air carry COVID-19 droplets more than two metres?

Fortunately Tesco delivery drivers have been very good and put the grocery in the boxes, boxes labelled by me so as to avoid mixing shower gel with food, and I use differently coloured bags so that a bag used for shower gel one week is never used for food on a later delivery.

Maybe I can get some tea trollies so that I do not need to bend down to unload. But they will need to be narrow so that they can fit on the doorstep!

I suppose some business could produce specially designed trollies for the purpose, perhaps stronger than a tea trolley, and that can easily be moved sideways and also has a locking facility so as to lock the wheels when the trolley is on the doorstep, and a hand-height lever to control the locking.

You could telephone customer services, or your nearest large asda and ask them to collect the crates. That way they know they were left, know where they are and can collect when they are next in the area.

In answer to your question, I’d retain the crates and offer them back at the next delivery. It sounds as if the driver was poor, that’s all.
We’ve used Asda every week since March 2020 and intend to continue.
Their delivery vans are fitted with trackers so you should receive advanced warning (by text) of delivery, plus expect the driver to ring your doorbell.
Our driver leaves the crates in front of the house, stands well back while we unpack then removes the crates. We’re probably on our 4th delivery person now - only one did as Gagajo recounts. Several have been really chatty and friendly.
We’d like to change the time of delivery - between 8 and 10 on Saturday night - but at least it’s recurring so we count ourselves fortunate.

I’ve used Asda for years and never had a problem with either the goods supplied or with the actual delivery. The drivers have now restarted bringing the crates into my kitchen for me to unload them which is a lot easier. I have all the doors open and keep my distance. I’ve never been left crates!!!
If I discover anything with short dates or damage (rarely) I’ve never been refused a refund

I used to have Asda, they did bring to the door and wait for me to empty the crates. I got fed up they so often didn't have what I asked for and their substitutes were quite imaginative

I’ve had ASDA and get a text that I can only change the order before 11pm the night for a next day 2-3pm delivery. Ring doorbell, wait, stepped back, while I bag up.

Asda have been unreliable with us when we have used them. They delivered none of the frozen food I ordered on one occasion with no explanation. The driver had gone before a I realised. We have had broken wine bottles and my sister had rotten eggs.
Tescos have been fantastic.

Asda are variable, depending on the driver. Some are great. One we get sometimes is an idiot. He refused to distance once, at the time my daughter actually thought she might have covid! We'd included the info on the order but he ignored it.

Were you notified that the order had been delivered or was it just left?

With Tesco deliveries, I put cardboard boxes on the doorstep and ask the delivery driver in the delivery notes to put the grocery in the boxes, the boxes being labelled so that, for example, shower gel is in a different box from the food.

The drivers are happy to do that. If I had to unload while they stood at a distance waiting (though I wouldn't do that anyway!) it would take far longer.

As I am retired and the driver has gone I can do it all slowly and without that slowness delaying the driver on his or her journey helping lots of people get their grocery supplies.

The drivers telephone me to inform me of delivery and ask about any substitutions, as in do I want them. So much more convenient that shouting back and forth from an upstairs window, particularly when it was cold or was raining and the driver telephones from inside the van.

I only open the door about five minutes after the driver has gone. I know, I know, but it costs me nothing to do that and the disposable gloves that I get sent by the vet don't cost much and give me peace of mind, as does quarantining the shopping for a week in case of fomites.

I know, I know, but having started doing that in March 2020, on what basis would I stop doing it now!

You would think so.
They are more expensive than the plastic bags that the supermarkets no longer use for home delivery.

I don't mind how it's left to be honest Tilly, I'm just confused as to what I do with the crates as I don't use them that regular and presumably they need them?

Oh, that’s a poor service - could the driver have thought you were listed as isolating or vulnerable?
I had an Asda order this week and the crates were offered at the door and driver waited while I unloaded them to the kitchen and he took the empty crates away.

I have only been using them sporadically but the last two times they have left all the crates full of my order (un bagged) in my veranda and just driven off grin

Do I leave the crates in a pile for the next time they call?

I'm a bit confused by it all.

I only placed the order at 9am this morning and they let me edit it until midday for a 4pm same day delivery btw shock
