Aggie, thanks for telling me about the pavements in York. I look forward to seeing this lovely city.

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 23-Jul-21 20:18:30

Many thanks Jaxjacky. I will investigate.

Jaxjacky Fri 23-Jul-21 16:22:08

Dogsmakemesmile I’m a coordinator for the local Good Neighbours group, all home based, there may be one local to you.

Marydoll Fri 23-Jul-21 16:14:59

Gwen ?

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 23-Jul-21 15:13:51

Don't blame you *Marydoll!!

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 23-Jul-21 15:07:49

Creeping in. Cooling here in the Borders. Back from hospital appointment re fracture. Was given amazing new leg brace. Staff superb and compassionate. Was very stressed prior to appointment. I lack the grace and resilience of many of you and was catastrophising . So grateful for outcome. Going to catch up on Tokyo opening ceremony and in a few days think of some voluntary work I can do from the house. There may be something. Sending my best wishes.

Marydoll Fri 23-Jul-21 12:53:18

Gwen, you are correct on both counts. Spray painting is not a good idea for those with chronic lung conditions and I was wearing appropriate safety gear, borrowed from MR MDoll.
However, having been a goodie two shoes all my life and putting everyone else first, I have decided to rebel and if possible, enjoy what time I have have left! Carpe diem! ?

Grandmabatty Fri 23-Jul-21 12:50:30

Grandmafrench it is indeed THE James Taylor. I have seen him a number of times. The last occasion was at Edinburgh Castle and he was wonderful. The backdrop of the castle was also magical. What a lovely day you had.

Grandmafrench Fri 23-Jul-21 12:27:33

And finally, Good Morning everyone! Slightly cooler - but not much in a Sizzly South where a slow start has been made on a Friday morning here!

So sorry, Ash - life is so cruel sometimes. Mattie I never commented (where brain?) on your lovely garden makeover. Well done! Have you picked up Alizarin's flying GS circus act for your little GS, Scentia? You could train them both up for future display purposes perhaps and if you have time in retirement, you could become their Agent. Take care of that shoulder, please. A very happy anniversary to TheLinns - enjoy your day. ? (And room service should be encouraged on other days, as well!) Alizarin we have Wagtails which behave like budgerigars with our car wing mirrors. Hours spent talking to themselves - presumably looking for little mates! GrandmaB is that THE James Taylor of Fire and Rain fame? If so, I am very envious - although when I watch his concerts on Youtube I tend to cry! Not ideal for an evening out - maybe I'm crying for my lost youth?! ? I saw Logan's pic on soop kitchen - he is getting beyond cute, I think. There's nothing like suddenly remembering a little 'stash', Grandmadinosaur, but sad you have to hand it over to your Dentist!

Dwmx - how horrible, maggots. But I'm more concerned that you don't sound as if you have regular refuse collections? We have two a week and a third for recycling - in this heat no wonder you have a fly problem. Good luck with the gazebo deconstruction! B9 have the most wonderful time, but you will surely be almost jet-lagged if you go off anywhere else anytime soon! Think we've all suffered from being stuck in one place and once the brakes are off, so to speak, we are all determined to go a bit bonkers. Bet your DH is thrilled with his present. Photos must be provided ! Lovely to hear from you again Georgesgran - enjoy your sleepover. Bet you are putty in his cheeky little hands, Gwen. Sounds as if he's certainly got your number!

I too was outdoor sewing yesterday morning, muse when we received a 'phone call and invitation for yesterday evening. Too good an opportunity to miss so we turned up with a very nice bottle and our 'off to have fun' faces at 7pm. We arrived home at 2.00am and so this morning has been a quiet one!!!

Obviously someone has to be the driver and I don't do late post-fun disputes with Gendarmes, so I am always very careful.
But we had the most marvellous evening. Huge old wine merchants' house with 3 apartments, a solid glass floor in half the hallway showing a lit underground stream, a large pool, and a large family on holiday with Grandma at Grandma's holiday home. So...Son, Daughter, DIL, SIL, 3 GCs , DIL's Sister, DIL's BiL and 2 small children - and us. DIL and her Sister, both trained cooks, provided the most amazing buffet. A massive barbecue fire was started (super in high temperatures, Not!), and before this a Table Tennis Championship had been organised. Lots were drawn, matches were played and DH won a huge bottle of very nice wine for us. Since he was the oldest player there, he was extremely proud and as they all said he 'did the English proud".

We had Oysters and then all sorts of lovely food accompanied by spicy merguez sausages which the local butcher gets from Spain and chicken wings. Someone had made a superb chocolate cake for desserts and there were sorbets and also fresh fruit. After lots of happy conversation, someone's dog fell into the pool with the children (well, that's what the children said!!!!) and at that moment we all saw a spectacular moon just hanging over the water in the distance. It was so low we felt we could have touched it.

Rather optimistic promises were made for some of the chaps to meet up before breakfast and while the beaches were cooler and quiet, for some fishing. Mmmm what a good idea, said absolutely no one this morning! This will take place next week now, I think. Lots of people are desperate for a re-match but Granddadfrench is unwilling to give up his title just yet, so we shall see.

Enjoy the (last of?) the sunshine and good weather for a while, everyone. Take care outing and abouting and have the happiest of weekends to come, dear GMers. I'm off for lunch and maybe a bit of a lie down. ? ( I need to brace myself for the next exciting invitation.)

EkwaNimitee Fri 23-Jul-21 12:14:47

Good morning, Mick and everyone from hot and sunny Carlisle. We hit 30C here yesterday to the envy of DS2 in Sydney who has been complaining of the cold there--it was 11C apparently. There is a gentle cool breeze today but the sun is fierce. I mowed the lawns early whilst they were largely in the shade still but that's all my exertion for today. I've had a Tesco delivery and a long chat with my sister in Nottingham where it has clouded over.
This afternoon, I am hoping to rebook a holiday that got cancelled though it won't be to the original destination, I'm sticking to Europe as I'm not confident of the virus going down enough in other parts of the world even next summer.
Well, I'm off to have my healthy green smoothie lunch but not before wishing the Lins a happy anniversary and hoping MrB9 enjoys his driving experience.
And, Ashcombe, it's saddening to hear of your friend, deprived of so many years of life.
The best possible day to all.

aggie Fri 23-Jul-21 12:13:13

Hi everyone it’s hot here but a workman has been here all morning and the front door open has let a lovely breeze through
Annamar1 I walk with a stick and managed fine in York , it has pavements ! It is lovely , you will enjoy it

GrannySomerset Fri 23-Jul-21 12:02:06

Have had a busy morning - a friend called in with some flowers and then two WI mates popped in and were persuaded to stay for coffee. Long phone chat with medical student young relative just about to enter her final year after having to resit exams - a third of her year group are in this position, which suggests something has gone astray with the on line teaching.

So feeling energised by so much social contact. Must go and tie up the sweet peas before tomorrow’s threatened heavy rain decimates them.

Sorry not to comment on everyone’s posts but I do so enjoy hearing about other more interesting lives.

Annaram1 Fri 23-Jul-21 11:22:59

Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs Lins.

Sorry to hear about your young friend Ash. Very sad.

Marydoll, take care.

Good to hear that you are having a little coach break Mick. I have just booked a 5 day coach trip to Harrogate and York in September. Happy with it until somebody told me York had cobbled streets. I walk with a walking stick and am now wondering if I can manage it. Oh dear.

Everybody have a good day and take care.

Pittcity Fri 23-Jul-21 10:57:21

Good morning from sunny Colchester.
I woke early with a headache, so I've waited until the paracetamol has kicked in before looking at GN. We had a new wine with dinner last night and not enough water!
It's much cooler here than of late.
Will read the thread later.
Much love to all x

amselerin Fri 23-Jul-21 10:54:08

Good morning all from warm Lueneburg. I have just returned from the veterinary surgeon as I thought Waldi may have diabetes because she drank an awful lot. He checked her over and told me to put her on a diet. I know, she had gone rather large. She refused to walk in the heat and she refuses to walk in the rain and is not keen on walking anyway any more. She is a dachshund and they are strong willed as they can't ask anyone for direction when they are in in badger (Dachs) whole. I haven`t read any of your posts. So I hope that you all have a pleasant day. Keep well and take care.

muse Fri 23-Jul-21 10:31:29

Happy Birthday MrB9 ????
Now that’s an idea for my next birthday. I’d love to drive a rally car ?
Enjoy the glam picnic B9 ? and have fun in my home county.

Beechnut Fri 23-Jul-21 10:31:09

Wishing Mr&MrsLins a Happy Anniversary ?

Happy Birthday to MrB9. What a lovely present.

A spectacular moon last night Dwm. I said to myself ‘That’s lovely.

Nannagarra Fri 23-Jul-21 10:28:20

Good morning from sunny Sefton.
What a pretty salad Mattie. Such sad news about your friend Ashcombe who was far too young. Happy wedding anniversary Lins1066. I’m another who likes your daily review Kim - I can see the benefits.
DGD is spending the afternoon with us. She is at the stage of having lots of ideas (whispered gently yet insistently) which she prefers me to carry out, much to the amusement of the rest of the family.
Take it easy. Keep an ? for a ?. Sending a ? and a ?.

Jaxjacky Fri 23-Jul-21 10:24:09

Happy Birthday MrB9 ??? exciting cars, I hope you have fun!
Will that be a frock and hat B9?

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 23-Jul-21 10:24:00

Good Morning all from drizzly Harrogate - a welcome relief! Though I have to say I have enjoyed the heat!
Sorry about your friend Ash so young, too.
I wouldn't have thought spraying paint and lung problems were compatible Marydoll But you were probably togged up to protect yourself.
Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs Linn.
Yesterday I had a friend round who gave me reflexology, then in the evening I was babysitting for my DGS. He might have Down Syndrome, but like any 7 year old he had a plan. My DD informed me he would probably come downstairs, lie on the settee and go to sleep, right? Wrong!! He came downstairs got on the settee and announced "no leep" (i'm not going to sleep).
He wandered round the house (I hurriedly shut the front door - he is an escapologist!). He grabbed a boxed toy and ran out to the garden on to his trampoline. I eventually managed to part him from the box which I suspected was a present for another little boy (correct). I told him I was going indoors, he followed me in. went upstairs to his mothers bed was tempted to leave him there but bothered in case he would start messing with her make-up. He went to his bedroom, got his piggy bank and emptied it over the floor, then downstairs got the play-doh out, made me 'toast' and a 'cake'. I persuaded him to get on the settee and find a story for me to read which he did, repeating 'no leep' After a while I told him I wasn't playing, and i got my laptop out and sat on the other settee. He came over and started to cuddle me, trying to win me over and finally at 9.30pm he fell asleep!! What a little monkey!!

Hope you all enjoy your respite from the heat and have a good day!!

Georgesgran Fri 23-Jul-21 10:21:56

Good morning from Durham where it’s brightening up nicely, following a strange overcast day yesterday. Haven’t posted recently - seem to be stuck in a rut!
Collecting DGS from Nursery tonight and he’s having a sleepover with me, as DD1 and SIL are at Ladies Day tomorrow at Newcastle Races. DGS isn’t a good eater, so need to get something to tempt him.
Best wishes to those celebrating and sympathy to those with heavy hearts. X

hollysteers Fri 23-Jul-21 10:11:07

Good morning Mick and all from another of the same Lancashire coast.
Lovely to have a show booked Mick, we need things to look forward to.
Making good use of my fan and it makes a world of difference.
A friend had arranged to come for a couple of days tomorrow but has changed it to Sunday. Haven’t looked at the weather, but I certainly haven’t felt like being the hostess with the mostess recently. Must change sheets etc.
Watched a great noir film last night ‘Fallen Angel” with Linda Darnell 1945. She died in a fire aged only 41. I remember my mother talking about her. I love those atmospheric black and white old films, (not all) even when the backgrounds look iffy and people had specs with no glass in?.
Very young to die Ashcombe, so sad for all concerned.
Belated birthday greetings to Gingster and GrannyGravy.
Most of the birthdays connected to me are in the Spring.
Hope you all have a cool day, yeah man??

gillgran Fri 23-Jul-21 10:09:43

Good Morning to you all from an overcast Cambs., It seems a little "less hot" today.

Happy Anniversary Mr&MrsLins, flowers

Good idea to book trips Mick, nice to have something to look forward to.

Take Care, I hope you all have a good weekend.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 23-Jul-21 10:05:27

B9exchange Happy Birthday to MrB sounds like an excellent present he has there.
I’m very envious of your trip to BP tomorrow. I’ve done the tour of the Palace. It’s amazing when you walk out at the end through the gardens. They are so tranquil and hard to think it’s the centre of London. Enjoy!

muse Fri 23-Jul-21 10:04:57

Going morning Mick and Morningsters. Hardly any blue in these mid Cornwall skies. I’m still sat with bare arms though. Legs are never exposed to the sun these days. Perhaps the odd pair of crops. Main reason is my walk through the wood with Mya. Ticks?

Happy anniversary to Mr&MrsLins ??????
Enjoy the shows/performances when the dates arrive mick and grandmabatty.
I’m so grateful that Sainsbury’s is totally crated now nannytopsy. Even then I had my cereal with a slightly crushed edge the other week. Delivery lady had spotted it. “I’ll mark it as damaged and you’ll get a refund.” Then handed it to me. A few free breakfasts ?
scentia. After my hand injury, my surgeon advised I took painkillers before any prolonged strenuous activities. It is still painful afterwards but no where near as much as when I didn’t take any. Enjoy those swims.

It did sadden me read about your lovely theatre friend Ash. I want everyone to live a healthy, full and long life. If only I ruled the world …

Lots of fun today with visits to parks, pools , zoos and many more jovial activities for you Morningsters. ?

I have 3 solar lights to collect. I want to hang them under the garden parasol. Quick shop at Morrison’s then back to my sewing which will continue outside. I’m not moving in until it rains.

Keep those ? on if the sun is still above you. Stay safe Morningsters and I include the missing ☹️ ones. I hope they are still dropping into GN occasionally. Come back soon ?

???????
