Which era would you choose for clothing and decor

If we are on about the experiences, I'd like the 60s too, but only if I could live in Chelsea with a trust fund .

I thought this thread was just about the clothes and decor, though.

I was a bit too young to do any swinging in the 60s, (I had to be in bed by 7!) but I did love being a teen in the mid 70s.
A bit like Gagajo, a few years earlier would have been nice, so I could experience both.

Me too GSM. I suffered badly on the 60s with asthma and ended up in hospital many times. Thank goodness for the treatments today.

It has to be the 60s for me. So much fun. But if I’m to go back in time please can I take modern asthma drugs with me?!

I too love the flapper style and love art deco furnishings and decor

The 60s fashion was so different to other previous decades. Mini skirts. Jeans with zips at the front which shocked my mum. Kinky white boots. It was fun.

The clothes and decor in the last season of Downton Abbey were just gorgeous. No corsets, and less faffy hairstyles must have been life-changing for women.

I like a lot of twenties fashion I think I would feel comfortable wearing that style.
Home decor, bits of everything, no specific period, but if I had to be pushed, probably Victorian, toned down a bit.
I also like a lot of fifties items.

I’m happy where I am. We’ve so much choice and so much freedom. I’m very happy to be able to watch and admire the beautiful but restrictive styles of other eras from a safe distance, via a cinema screen or the TV.

Even in the 60s we’d to wrestle with suspenders, or keep hoicking up those hold-up stockings…..

I think both the 1960s and 1920s were full of fashion, feminism, fun and hope for a better future. After the First World War it was all systems go for technology, health, fashion, architecture and liberal thinking.
Then WHAM! another war.
I believe this really held progress back for the human race as cleaning up all the destruction, deprivation, and suffering has taken a long time.
I get a warm glow thinking back to the 1960s being born in a big family then it was noisy, colourful, eventful, and peaceful for me, happy at school and I sort of knew where I stood in life ‘til about 1979 when it all fell apart for a bit - good now though and lucky ? in many ways.

I would like to have been born just 15 years earlier, to be able to enjoy the 1960s. I would have been good as one of the flower children.

I wouldn't want to go back any earlier. Life was hard then, especially for women. And no way would I want to have been born a man.

Neolithic, I think - certainly before fashion was invented.

I loved being a teenager in the 60s and a young mum in the 70s. I loved the fashions.

I was glad to be a teenager and student in the sixties and early seventies. Though not to be American with the Vietnam war raging.
Glad to have lived a life with no major World Wars like parents or grandparents.

I am with you Not too old, I prefer todays fashions especially clothes. I like the fact that I can wear what I like, go where I want anytime. The streets were no safer in the past than they are now, 'bad' things were just not talked about !!
So this time suits me fine, minus Covid of course.

I'm with you BlueBelle. I loved the 1960s.They seemed full of hope and fun. I think other era's were good if you were one of the haves but the have nots were probably pretty miserable.

As regards clothes and decor I would choose now. Modern women's clothes are so attractive and, above all, comfortable. I would not want to go back to corsets and long skirts, thank you very much. Neither would I welcome a move back to the frills and pelmets, doilies and antemacassers (sp?) that our grandparents used to love.

Edwardian for the looks, but I love tech too much to want to go without it!
