Many years ago I had a premonition that a situation that I longed for would come true.....It hasn't yet but is still possible.
(I can't give any details)
Have any of you had a premonition that came true?

Not so much premonitions … but I get feelings of déjà vu when it just couldn’t be possible! Bit freaky sometimes …

A couple of times certain people have come into my mind for no apparent reason, then later that day I’ve bumped into them. One I hadn’t seen since school so 30 years plus had passed. My worst case was going on a day trip to France with my eldest son who was 15 at the time. I strongly felt that the ship was going to tip over and I wouldn’t let him out of my sight as I could see in my head people screaming etc It was a week to the day before the Zebrugge disaster, and when I saw that on the news my blood ran cold as it was exactly as I saw it.

When talk of Covid started I had a very black feeling descending over me. Friends who were known for being very 'gung ho' about anything risky often tried to guilt reluctant friends into feeling pathetic about having reservations about whatever they felt was fine, like getting a group of ladies the majority over 70 and some in poor health to take their turn at moving furniture at the monthly meetings.
At a committee meeting the same few started to be scathing about the expected Covid outbreak. I suddenly felt very strongly that they were really wrong. I spoke up and said that I had a really bad feeling about it and would appreciate them not joking and making light of something that might take the lives of people we love. They did go rather quiet as I don't normally make a fuss about things. That dreadful feeling still lurks in the back of my mind and I could never have imagined the number of lives lost. I am being really careful about 're-entry' into society and I have had lots of time to reflect and consider who I want in my life and who I have been relieved not to see. That was a premonition and I have had them in the past usually about someone dying, and they have died.

I had only one premonition years ago when my Daughter was Four .
She was playing in our yard with her dolls pram ..
When a sudden strong urge came over me to call her to me .As she came towards me a gust of wind felled the tree she was playing under .

I have an odd one . If I ring ( landline) a friend or relative I always know before someone speaks ( not before I ring but just in that second the phone is picked up ) whether it is the husband or the wife. It isn't just male or female. I tried it with my husband and son some years ago. They went upstairs and took turns to ring me ( I know - too much time on our hands but they didn't believe me ) and I knew every single time which one of them was calling. I have a theory which might be rubbish. Could it be the intake of breath before someone speaks which is different in familiar people ?

I have had premonitions that have come true, but cant remember them, they were things I couldnt imagine could come true but they did.

Not sure if this counts as a premonition, but a psychic person I described it to called it a predictive dream. From the time I got married I had a recurring dream before any big event that I'd fallen asleep and missed it. In the dream I'd wake up when everything was over and be asking people had I looked nice in my dress, and other questions about the event. Six years after we were married I gave birth to our first son by emergency caesarian - so I was asleep and missed the birth. I've never had that dream since.

When Madeleine McCann went missing and it was on the news I turned to my son and said they’re never going to find her. I just had this strong feeling from nowhere and said it out loud. Of course I don’t know for sure I was right and I still hope I’m wrong.

Many years ago I had a dream that my husband was riding a horse and he fell and hurt himself. I told him about the dream and he just laughed. A few days later he came limping home and said he had been leading the horse when it pulled him over and dragged him a few feet.
Years later I had a dream he was up a ladder and fell off. About a week later he was climbing up some harvest bins and fell of the top ones.

I sometimes do. But the greatest one was about my now DH. I’d been through a terrible divorce and life had become very difficult. I was so depressed and lonely. One night I had a ‘dream’, completely vivid, about meeting a man. He said, ‘I’m on my way’. There were several things that I remembered about the dream, certain features he had, the way he dressed, the place. When I woke up I felt like it was a message and I took a great deal of comfort from it. Within a few months we met and I knew it was him. He, like many, is a terrible sceptic and doesn’t believe in this sort of thing. But I know that was him. He’s brought me so much happiness, I’m very lucky!

I had been planning a trip and much looking forward to it. About a week before I woke up one morning knowing that I could not go. This could not happen. It was a fact. It was so ridiculous it even made me laugh. I did not go and still wonder what it must have been that was avoided or what did happen that would not have had I gone.

I'm not religious but I said a little kinda 'wish' to our lady when in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu in Gozo, that my then troubled and somewhat lonely 19 years old elder DS would meet someone who thought he was the best thing since sliced bread! ...6months later-he did! Their relationship lasted 14 years .sadly ended badly as change from a beautiful Caring young lass of 16 into a serial 'taker' of my son's generosity self worth and even his money! Be careful what you wish for.....

Not so much premonitions, but I used to have dreams that would come true.

They'd come in loose groups. I'd have on, and it'd come true around 6 weeks later. Then, close to that 6 weeks, I'd have another that would come true in less time, and then have a similar situation, until the dream came true a week or so later. Then they'd stop, until they restarted out of the blue.

Not really a premonition because I think it was a sort of inevitable thought in the circumstances, but I was with my daughter and her new baby at a local event on a beautiful, warm summer day. I remember looking at my daughter, who was having the loveliest time and was the picture of contentment, and having a sudden gut-wrenching moment of fear for her. Her husband was serving in Afghanistan - he was killed just a few days later. [Sad]

About 30 years ago a male friend of mines wife was pregnant. I remember being upstairs drying my hair and suddenly thinking that she’s not going to have the baby. The phone started to ring downstairs and it was him saying that she had lost the child.

So many and I have now learnt not to ignore them.

jaylucy Thu 29-Jul-21 11:50:07

Many years ago a young friend was seriously injured in an accident and several people said the prognosis was good.
Not sure if this is a premonition but a couple of evenings later, I was at a sporting event that my friend used to compete in and I had the strongest feeling that my friend was standing behind me. The next day it was announced that he had died at about the same time.
I also find myself thinking of someone that I haven't seen or spoken to for some time and within a day or two I will either meet that person or they will contact me out of the blue!

Lulu16 Thu 29-Jul-21 11:41:44

Yes I do believe in premonitions. It happens to me regarding particular people and places.
I have moved to a place once where I had a strong image of a river plain in a dream. It was like an unexplained pulling towards this place.
Some people can recognise this phenomena in others. It is very weird but true.

Nannan2 Thu 29-Jul-21 11:39:45

How is something a 'premonition' if its not come true? Is that not just a dream then? I do have 'deja vu feelings' from time to time (used to quite often) where something happens (like a conversation for example) and ill say "oh, I dreamt of this happening" im told i get them because of epilepsy, the deja vu feelings, but my son occasionally gets them and he has not got it.My dd has got it, but never gets these feelings.Quite odd.

Sadly I had one that I would find my mother dead. I moved her into a lovely sheltered accommodation flat. My then fiance and I had a lovely dinner of fish and chips with her and I told her I would be back in the morning to finish unpacking for her.

As I drove towards the flat I knew that I would find her dead. Don't know why it happened. Ironically she is now buried a few yards from the spot where the feeling hit me.

flowerofthewestx2 Thu 29-Jul-21 11:32:56

My daughter, then 15, came home for lunch saying how terrible it was about seating area collapsing at Pink Floyd concert. I hadnt heard of anything. I knew my best friend had gone.
The next day it was all over the news. It had happened the night before. My daughter had told me about 9 hours before it happened. I freaks her out if I mention it

Theoddbird Thu 29-Jul-21 11:30:13

Yes... Just over 44 years ago when I was pregnant with my eldest I dreamt that I had her by caesarean with an epidural anesthetic which was unheard of at the time. Guess what...it happened. The anesthasist didn't even know how to do an epidural but the doctor delivering my baby did. It was the first one done in the hospital and became the norm eventually.

trisher Thu 29-Jul-21 11:26:07

I haven't had premonitions but I have sometimes taken decisions that seemed at first to be utterly stupid but which led to things improving later on. I usually refer to it as a good instinct.
My late MIL believed in guardian angels. During the war hers told her to take her baby and get out of the hotel she was staying in. She did and took the last train out of the town. During the air raid that night the hotel took a direct hit and everyone in it was killed.

polnan Thu 29-Jul-21 11:25:28

oh gosh Annaram1 so sorry to hear this..

well I get lots of "feelings" as I call them, not premonitions..
but I think of myself as quite "discerning" not always correct though! but mostly.

My partner had bought tickets to see an afternoon performance of Cirque du Soliel at the Royal Albert Hall, it was on a Sunday and we drove into London and parked up being around 4 minutes late. It was about 10 minutes into the performance and I froze & shivered, my partner noticed it asked what was wrong and I said I was overwhelmed by the performance.
I worked for a company where by I travelled around the Country and on the Monday I set off and phoned my Dad who lived on his own but got no reply.
That evening I tried again but no answer which wasn't unusual as he had a good social life, however this happened a couple of times and the coming weekend I was due to fly to Italy for a conference so it was hectic in our household.
On the Thursday I had appointments in Manchester I set off very early to avoid the congestion of the M6, I pulled up outside my account walked towards the door and turned around got in my car and drove back to Birmingham. I had a key for my Dads I walked in and there he was lying dead in the hall.
I remember sitting at his little desk and looking down at the paper he was reading which was the Sunday papers he collected for himself and the neighbours after going to Church I believe my shiver was my Father dying.
I had been there for about 20 minutes with the paramedics doing what they expertly do when the phone rang and it was his Sister calling from Ireland, her words were "I know", as in my heart so did I.
