Do you like it, and does the icecream man come to your neck of the woods?

Lastly, what is your favourite flavour, please?

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 15:05:39

Black jacks= black tongue and teeth. Loved them when I was a nipper.

Kate1949 Thu 12-Aug-21 15:00:54

Apologies if anyone has mentioned this but I've seen in Iceland this morning Blackjack and Vanilla ice lollies. Remember Black Jack sweets?

MissAdventure Thu 12-Aug-21 14:53:05

Choc ices are fairly "good" aren't they?
Treat yourself when you've lost a bit. smile

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 14:49:07

Not a lover of ice cream or anything sugary for that matter. Perhaps I’ll have a Mint Choc Chip at the sea side on a hot day.

We don’t have an ice cream van but we have a farm shop near where they make their own ice cream. It’s always queued up for miles, no wonder! If you ask for two scoops you get four piled on! It’s amazing but spoils you for other places who sell the same ice cream but miserly portions. And it’s cheap!

I've just skimmed the last two pages. Has anyone mentioned Tutti Frutti ice cream? I used to love that. The sweet shop in the town where I grew up used to sell it. You could buy a tutti frutti cornet.

Where has it gone?

TerriBull Thu 12-Aug-21 12:30:30

Yes, annoyingly, given it's August the Ice Cream van I hear around here, for some strange and annoying reason is playing "The Holly and The Ivy". Possibly it sells brandy butter flavoured ice cream shock

I do like ice cream, I don't indulge too often. Although I always have some Magnums for the grandchildren when they visit, which I try not to touch. My current favourite is Salted Caramel

We have a van that calls in our street every teatime 5pmish and one day i treated myself. I had a shock 2.50 for a whipped ice cream cornet!!!! Goodness knows how a family can afford to buy for their little ones at this price. The next day i bought ice cream from the supermarket, less money and it lasted all week if not longer. Ice cream from a van is defo a 'treat' in my view.

I love icecream so much I have one of those independent icecream machines which can be used without having to freeze the bucket. My favourites: lemon and raspberry ripple; coffee; clotted cream, strawberry... I could go on but I have a yearning for a small bowl of raspberry.

Sarahmob Thu 12-Aug-21 12:22:59

I’m not a big fan of ice cream, but when we go to Cornwall in a couple of weeks time will indulge in a Roskillies ice-cream. The flavour I’ll go for depends on what’s in the freezer on the day we go. Best ice cream I’ve ever tasted.

Witzend Thu 12-Aug-21 12:18:19

Not bothered, but I like a bit of vanilla on some hot puddings, e.g. bread and butter or sticky toffee. But then I don’t like cream.

It really grieves me to add that yesterday I threw out two virtually full tubs of ice cream - one chocolate something or other, one strawberry sundae - which I had allowed young Gdcs to choose from the supermarket.

Neither of them liked their choice! So I won’t be doing that again. Dh* and I will never eat them, and they were taking up too much room in my small freezer, so they had to go.
Sinful waste, I know.
*he loves Magnums, though!

I never see an ice cream van here, but one is a regular visitor to dd’s road, where there are a number of young children.

I was on holiday in Donegal years ago. The hotel waitress served up a complementary scoop of ice cream to everyone in the dining room and asked for feedback for the chef who’d made it. She also challenged everyone to identify the flavour.

Nobody succeeded in guessing the flavour of the creamy coloured slightly textured ice cream but it was a unanimous thumbs up for the lovely taste.

It was soda bread ice cream. Bizarrely some who had already said it was delicious then left the remainder and decided they didn’t like it after all.

Namsnanny Thu 12-Aug-21 12:07:38

Pistachio or Brown Bread with hazelnuts are my favourite.
Oh and C****** pudding flavour.
I used to buy it from Marshfields, but they stopped making it.
So I occasionally make my own.
Ergo I dont have it very often!

BlueSapphire Thu 12-Aug-21 12:07:18

Ice cream van is here at lunchtime, but rarely buy one from him. Funnily enough he is an ex-pupil I remember from my teaching days in the 1970s!
Favourite flavour is strawberry.

annodomini Thu 12-Aug-21 11:33:13

Tablet Ice Cream! Wonderful Janetta's in St Andrews sells it, and a plethora of other delicious flavours. Hoping to visit there at the end of next week! In the V&A museum restaurant in Dundee, the ice cream comes from Janetta's. Yes, please!

Hellogirl1 Thu 12-Aug-21 11:27:58

I only tried Turkish dondurma ice cream once, really didn`t like it, ice cream shouldn`t be chewy. There used to be an ice cream stand on the little road leading to Pigeon island in Kusadasi, and he sold wonderful ice cream. Hubby loved the strawberry which had pieces of actual strawberries in it, and I loved his chocolate, very dark, with lumps of chocolate in it, Mmmmm! I wonder if he`s still there?

Zoejory Thu 12-Aug-21 10:16:08

Tablet! I've never tried Tablet Ice Cream but I'm sure it's delicious. I adore Tablet. Tried to make it myself with very disappointing results. I think you need to be in Scotland to make it properly. Or Scottish.

Esspee Thu 12-Aug-21 10:09:44

Favourite flavour Tablet. (Only in Scotland I believe)

Esspee Thu 12-Aug-21 10:06:42

When we lived abroad on trips home every summer we stayed with my mum and dad.
There was an ice cream van which arrived every night after dinner playing music. We referred to him as the music man who came to play music for boys and girls before they went to bed.
Worked beautifully for many years until our eldest excitedly informed us that the music man sold ice cream!

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 10:05:12

I can hear the ice cream man but he never comes to our road its too busy.
Rum and Raisin for me. Sainsburys used to do choc ice cream which I loved but they must have changed the recipe its not the same. I make my own with condensed milk thats lovely.

seacliff Thu 12-Aug-21 10:04:42

Just as well we don't have an ice cream van here in the sticks. I love special ice cream not the ordinary stuff. Rum and raisin, and coffee flavour are favourites. There is an ice cream parlour in Southwold that does truly delicious but expensive ones, good for a treat.

henetha Thu 12-Aug-21 09:57:52

No ice cream man around here, sadly. I love ice cream.
Mostly vanilla, but I do like choc ices too.
Because I am borderline diabetic I often buy Frank's Dialicious.

timetogo2016 Thu 12-Aug-21 09:51:44

Yes i do like ice-cream and yes we have an ice-cream man pretty much the whole year round.
I prefer vanilla, especialy with hot homemade apple crumble.

silverlining48 Thu 12-Aug-21 09:47:52

Yes, I was responding to JJ. In the 80s (I think ) there were actual fights about pitches. People got hurt .
At least they are only arguing on Facebook. It’s always been an issue.
