Do you like it, and does the icecream man come to your neck of the woods?

Lastly, what is your favourite flavour, please?

Maryam33 Sat 19-Feb-22 01:02:49

Well everyone around me I am always in for a good dairy ice cream. But honestly nothing really caters to my taste buds as I am bit of an enthusiast who wants the perfect mix. So I started making my own with a small cusinart ice cream maker. It was kinda slow & really not that easy to work with. So I bought a commercial one & have been loving it ever since. If you're really into ice cream then here it is.

Yes but I suspect the van is driven by Lewis Hamilton. I've never managed to catch him

HurdyGurdy Sat 14-Aug-21 09:04:39

Yes, he comes round twice a day. Unfortunately it's that whippy stuff that tastes so synthetic, so he only gets business from us if my granddaughter is here, as she's not very discerning yet.

My favourite flavours are rum and raisin or mint choc chip.

Although I do make a rather tasty strawberry ice cream at home in my rather fancy ice cream maker ?

I've never tried coffee icecream, but I'm tempted to now, perhaps with some chopped walnuts for good measure.

A good old 99 for me at the seaside. I also love coffee ice cream. Sadly I haven't seen the ice cream van around here for ages.

Treetops05 Fri 13-Aug-21 21:35:31

No, we are on a 'private' rd, and we have never seen or heard an ice cream van sad

Elvis58 Fri 13-Aug-21 21:29:35

No icecream van. We have a farm icecream parlour which we frequent.Orange marmalade, rum and raisen, strawberries and clotted cream.White choc icecream. There are 30 flavours ,new ones added every week.Coconut is very nice too!

We get an ice cream van round when the weather is good. Our local garden centre has a good Italian Gelateria. Unfortunately they don't do my absolute favourite which is Zuppa Inghlese (English soup which actually means trifle!)

hicaz46 Fri 13-Aug-21 20:41:46

Yes I make my own

On the odd occasion there has been an ice cream van around but not very often, it's very nostalgic hearing the tunes. My favourite ice cream would be a caramel/toffee flavour.

Polly4t42 Fri 13-Aug-21 17:26:00

I would like an occasional 99 with nuts but sadly we have double yellow lines on our stretch of the road and it is busy so the ice cream van doesn’t come within easy walking distance so we couldn’t get to him in time. I like the occasional magnum and rum and raisin or a rich vanilla from a tub out of the freezer.

Rosycheeks Fri 13-Aug-21 17:00:50

Ive had Hazelnut ice cream that was very nice. ( Licking Lips).

No ice cream van here - no point as we have a 'famous' ice cream shop. My favourite flavour, though, is salted caramel which the ice cream shop doesn't do.

annodomini Fri 13-Aug-21 16:14:14

I shouldn't have read this thread because it has made me want to nip out to Waitrose to pick up a carton of my favourite which is chocolate ice cream with blood orange sorbet. Just typing the words makes my mouth water!

Aveline Fri 13-Aug-21 16:14:00

Just had my favourite ever ice cream - walnut! Most unexpected but absolutely delicious.

We moved to a small village near to John O Groats in Feb. This year. Not seen or heard an Ice Cream Van yet! There is no Ice Cream parlour that I know of in Wick (our nearest town) - but I have seen one close to the Beach in Thurso! I didn't try it though!

cupcake1 Fri 13-Aug-21 14:44:49

Occasionally but never have one as honeycomb is my favourite and he doesn’t sell that flavour unfortunately - or fortunately for the waistline!

Lulubelle500 Fri 13-Aug-21 14:44:27

My favourite is coffee too, Notagran. I make Nigella Lawson's One Step recipe as it's sooooo easy, no ice cream maker needed, only an electric whisk and a lot of willpower so you don't spoon it up as soon as it's frozen! (I only make it if I'm having people to dinner as I have no will power.)
An ice cream van used to come 4.30 on the dot every day, Winter or Summer. He'd park opposite; I work in the front of my house and could see him washing his hands in a basin before the queue of kids formed. Then one day he didn't come and since then there's never been another one. A neighbour told me someone had complained about the noise so often the Council had to get involved...

Unigran4 Fri 13-Aug-21 14:32:32

So, yes, yes, and Ginger and Honey

Unigran4 Fri 13-Aug-21 14:31:46

As I clicked this thread open our local ice cream van began to play its tune! Sadly he concentrates on the estates either side of me and never comes down my cul-de-sac, which is a shame (for him) because we have 11 young families down here.

When my children were little and we held coffee mornings, the first one to hear the van would start singing a song the children knew very loudly. All the Mums joined in to drown out the ice cream van music. Worked a treat!

My favourite, I found when I lived abroad, it was made by Movenpick and the flavour is Maple Walnut. Ocado used to sell it and it was expensive but they do not have it now. My usual flavour now is vanilla, sometimes put golden syrup on it,

Grannynannywanny

^Morrison's salted caramel is delicious too Grannywannynanny. Same price. They were doing 2 packs for £1.50 a while back. I got as many in the freezer as I could.^

Thanks for the tip off muse Now I know where to go when the shelf is bare in Tesco.

I ate my last one last night.
I've got 2 boxes of Tesco Chocolate & Caramel Ice Cream Sticks 3X110ml in my delivery tonight. They are to die for and I'm seriously addicted. Only £1 for 3 lollies.
I've heard the ice cream van a couple of days this week. He's not been around for ages.
These days being able to stock up in our freezers I wouldn't
imagine they do a great deal of business like they used to.
I used to like the 99 cone, cider lollies and banana ones.
My daughter bought me some cider ice lollies from Asda but they weren't so nice.

missdeke Fri 13-Aug-21 13:02:41

Not tempted although he comes down our road. We have an ice cream shop in the village with delicious ice cream. My favourites are vanilla and lemon meringue flavours.

Kaggi60 Fri 13-Aug-21 12:44:15

Yes the ice cream van comes everyday to the street above at the same time if I fancy one I wait and get a oyster shell it is messy but enjoy it.
