At about 2.20 in this video, Mridul Wadhwa states that he did not make his employers aware that he is male, when applying for the job of Rape Crisis centre manager - a job which was open to female applicants only.

Chewbacca, calling someone who has, is and will continue to present as a transwomen 'he' as you repeatedly do out you as discriminating.

How offensive. Would you call me an 'it' because I have no uterus or breasts?

Doodledog Thu 26-Aug-21 15:04:53

All's well that ends well then.

Given that none of us are directly affected by this, I really don't know why some on here get so get so riled up about it.

You mean we are all speaking theoretically? I don't have a problem with that myself.

And speaking for myself, I'm not 'riled'. I just prefer to have proper debates which are based on equal presentations of opinion, where both 'sides' participate equally and from a position of equal respect.

Mollygo Thu 26-Aug-21 15:14:18

GagaJo you could equally have said that to me. I find you very discriminatory against natal women and your posts have helped me understand why you might be like that.
What you have chosen to reveal about yourself and your body is up to you. What you choose to reveal about your partner’s opinions is also up to you.
If you choose to support someone who, because if his sex, lied by omission to get a job working with vulnerable women, particularly those whose vulnerability is caused by a man then that’s up to you too.
If I don’t see that as right, it doesn’t make me any more discriminatory than you, because you discriminate against natal women who feel their rights are being eroded by some transwomen, although possibly not by the ‘softly spoken and very kind’ ones.

GagaJo Thu 26-Aug-21 15:33:39

It's a shame you feel that way, but you're entitled to your opinion. I'm sure none of the women that I've helped or supported in the past have felt that way. But no woman is an island.

I’m sure we can all say that about our actions. Proving it is something else.

GagaJo Thu 26-Aug-21 15:46:54

I don't need to prove it to your Mollygo. I have the cards of thanks, not to mention that I'm still in touch with some of them. I keep all the cards and notes. Which reminds me. It'd be nice to go through them all again.

Mollygo Thu 26-Aug-21 15:55:25

Off you go then.
I didn’t say you had to. I said proving it is something else especially when you don’t have to.
I’m still getting thanks, cards and occasionally gifts now so I must be doing something right.

GagaJo Thu 26-Aug-21 16:02:13

I wish we had an eye roll emoji!

Mollygo Thu 26-Aug-21 18:05:42

At last we agree on something, though without your prompting I wouldn’t have been rude enough to admit it.
Here you are.

Chewbacca Thu 26-Aug-21 19:23:14

Chewbacca, calling someone who has, is and will continue to present as a transwomen 'he' as you repeatedly do out you as discriminating.

He has a penis and testicles; ergo he is a biological male. I sometimes sit on the table in the hall, it doesn't mean I'm a telephone. We can all call ourselves anything we want, but it doesn't necessarily make it fact.

How offensive. Would you call me an 'it' because I have no uterus or breasts?

I don't "call you" anything; why would I? I don't discuss or refer to you by anything other than your nic name. confused

GagaJo Thu 26-Aug-21 20:15:31

You know what I mean. Don't be disingenuous. What is a person without uterus, breasts or penis? It? Or the pronoun they chose?

Mollygo Thu 26-Aug-21 20:32:22

Yes I know what you mean, But does your partner know you’re sharing all sorts of information about your body parts with people who really don’t want to know?

GagaJo Thu 26-Aug-21 20:54:00

He wouldn't give a stuff. It's not the issue you seem to think it is. However, it isn't his body anyway so not his decision.

Gosh have I suddenly timewarped to the 1950's?

Mollygo Thu 26-Aug-21 21:57:14

Trisher, yes you have. I believe people used to talk about their body parts back then Although I don’t actually have any experience of that. I leave that to GJ.

Chewbacca Thu 26-Aug-21 22:12:42

Are you asking me because you're not sure?

May7 Thu 26-Aug-21 22:43:26

Ive read what you ALL have to say and I find it all very informative. Thats why I follow GN threads. I rarely comment on the politics thread but I do follow them and I'm really interested in all your opinions I usually can see both sides of the argument and the links provided save me for having to search for myself (lazy I know but hey I'm used to delegating) However the insistence of some posters in calling MW he is at best unkind. Would it really hurt you to refer to this transgender person as She Its such a small ask really isnt it??

GagaJo Thu 26-Aug-21 22:53:51

A gentle voice May7. ?

What is your opinion on the MH situation, May7?

Mollygo Thu 26-Aug-21 23:13:04

Welcome May7. What a timely visit to this thread.
I too would be interested to know your opinion on the MH situation.

May7 Thu 26-Aug-21 23:34:35

I'm very undecided and I can honestly see both sides of your arguments and trust me I've agreed with all of you at some point over the last 2_3_4 days but.... the insistence of some posters to refer to MW as he I just feel is petty and unkind. Pissed me off really

Why?

According to reports, this person does not hold a Gender Recognition Certificate therefore has not satisfied the criteria for legal recognition in the acquired gender.

Therefore this person applied for the job under false pretences and lied by omission.

Referring to them as 'he' is not inappropriate at this time.

Mollygo Fri 27-Aug-21 00:03:22

Hi May7
What is your opinion on the MW situation apart from being p*** off by a pronoun?

FarNorth Fri 27-Aug-21 01:21:49

MW is a 'he' and always will be, because of being male.
Why does the existence of biological sex piss you off, May7?

FarNorth Fri 27-Aug-21 01:26:01

Would it really hurt you to refer to this transgender person as She Its such a small ask really isnt it??

No, it isn't a small ask.
It's an ask that makes it impossible to have a sensible conversation because a word that should mean 'female person' is being used to mean 'male person'.
