….shamelessly cribbed from MN, and also inspired by the ‘Isn’t it quiet?’ thread.

Whether you’re still hoping for more proper summer weather (like me) but still like autumn, or you hate any temp over 20 deg, and can’t wait for wrapped-up walks among fallen leaves, or you dread the nights drawing in, and hate everything about autumn and winter, please feel free!

I’ll start - season of mists and mellow soupfulness - time for lots of substantial main course soups made with seasonal veg and pearl barley etc. - tasty, healthy - and cheap!

It'll be a relief when the hayfever season ends and my bedroom is cooler at night.

Hopefully I'll feel more energetic and enjoy longer country walks. We were so restricted for exercise during lockdown that the local footpaths became a muddy quagmire. Fingers crossed for this autumn. I'll be glad to dig out my quilted coat and cashmere scarf and get moving.

It won't be long until I can start choosing spring bulbs. Tulips are my favourites ... all those wonderful shapes and jewel colours.

I love Autumn and winter, almost everything about them, the clothes, the dark, even the rain becaue it is such a wonderful feeling topen the front door on to warmth and walk in.

My favourite gardening job is raking up the leaves, and we get a lot of them, but most of all I love trees in Autumn colour form the slight bronzy green of September, the glorious colours of October and the dank of November leaves, just yellow and brown, they smell so delicious.

I don’t like autumn because it makes me think goodbye summer for such a long long 9 months I only love summer and spring autumn can be beautiful but it makes me depressed as it’s talking me into a cold dark miserable long period
I love sum and a bit of heat on my body

Give me a cold crisp dry sunny day in any season!
Humidity and changeability are things I hate about British weather.

Cherrytree59 Thu 12-Aug-21 16:17:33

Autumn is beautiful on a lovely sunny day and I agree the colours are fabulous.
I love my boots but....

Winter is just round the corner.
Completely ruined by the clocks going back and the dark nights.
I hate having to drive on the dark.
And I worry about my family having to drive in bad weather, such as snow and ice.

This autumn I am going try and enjoy the moment and embrace the season.????

Autumn and winter are my two favourite seasons, I absolutely love rain and wind and find it very spiritual actually…???⛈

Autumn is my favourite season. The sun can be warm but not hot and humid as in summer. The colours of the trees, blackberry picking and cosy evenings are some of the things I love about Autumn.

Living in Scotland, the dark nights draw in quickly so you have to learn to love autumn and winter! I love the cooler, frosty mornings that can turn to warm sunny days. The abundance of nature, berries, seeds etc. The particular light you get. Whitewavemark has it exactly - pellucid. The changing of the leaves and beautiful colours. Misty mornings. Houses lit up in early evening and window gazing (it's nosy, I know). Cosying down in the house. Watching the birds gather and take off for winter. Autumn food like stews, crumbles and casseroles. You can tell it's a favourite season!

I wouldn't mind the cold weather so much, if the days were longer and brighter.
Here in the Northumberland our summers are nothing like as warm as in the south. Today for instance it is 17°c but with the breeze blowing it feel a couple of degrees lower.
Spring and summer are my favourite seasons.

My favourite season is summer and I can already feel the evenings drawing in. I don’t feel I ve had my fair share of warmth, sunshine and flowers just yet. Spring has the benefit of giving me something to look forward to. Autumn can be pleasant but it’s horrible getting back into trousers and jumpers again and putting away the summer dresses I do love to wear. I do celebrate Christmas but only because I have to! January, February and March are awful months. Dark and cold and far too much time indoors for me.

Similar here, Larsonsmum - after so many years abroad with just two seasons, hot and stinking hot, I appreciated the seasons so much more when we finally moved back to the U.K. Living in true desert climates really makes you appreciate rain, too, even if it’s a bit too much now and then!

Each season has its pluses and minuses for me. Especially with Covid around I enjoy socialising outdoors even more than in previous years, bbq’s with friends and family. I love living in shorts, t shirts and flip flops, showering to cool down, lighter meals.
But, I don’t like the cold as I have Raynauds, the lengthening mornings mean the sunrise light doesn’t wake me, our electric blanket is my friend and the slow cooker comes into use. Christmas is a favourite and ironically I love snow. So, swings and roundabouts really, as we have holiday breaks in September, October and November an Indian summer would be welcomed before the drift into autumnal hues.

I love autumn. I used to love hot weather but as I’ve got older I find it more difficult to cope with. I do like getting back into my socks and boots and cosy tunics with leggings. I have some great hats too.

Larsonsmum Thu 12-Aug-21 12:24:58

I adore every season, and look forward to the changes each brings. This was really brought home to me when we lived in the Middle East and the Far East in the 70s and 80s, and I missed our north-east of Scotland weather!!

Witzend Thu 12-Aug-21 12:22:54

I’m already looking forward to masses of windfalls from dd’s apple tree - she never has time to use more than a few - so I’ll be digging out my apple chutney recipe again.

Not to mention making a nice big batch of Delia’s 5 star mincemeat! Must check the jar store in the garage, and probably start saving more.

I dread the darkness Autumn brings, but I do love Strictly!

shysal Thu 12-Aug-21 12:14:17

I hate the autumn as it heralds the winter. I have always preferred warm weather, although I can't stand extreme heat any more. Spring is my favourite season.

Hellogirl1 Thu 12-Aug-21 12:03:35

It`s winter I look forward to, and the lack of insects and creepy crawlies. I love summer and autumn, but not the insect wildlife that comes with it.

Redhead56 Thu 12-Aug-21 11:58:12

I love autumn we are surrounded by woods and the colours are amazing. I don’t mind the nights drawing in but I don’t look forward to ice and snow I hate being cold. I love my warm cosy clothes and the comforting foods the best part is the run up to Christmas.

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Aug-21 11:50:21

Kate1949 Thu 12-Aug-21 11:34:47

Ditto Georgesgran I love the sun but never feel comfortable in summer clothes these days. I love boots, cosy coats and thick tights.
