Since having Covid i just can not enjoy coffee any longer. I always use to have de caff so i have tried caffinated again but Covid seems to have affected my taste buds and it doesn't matter how i make it, it tastes foul. I smell coffee and would love one, and when i open a new jar it smells just the same but just can not drink anymore. Has anyone else found a problem with taste buds after having covid???

DH’s sense of taste is only just starting to get back to normal, I think that he was ill around the same time as you (November).
For months he couldn’t taste a thing.
I think that I was asymptomatic with it, as I lost my sense of smell without really realising it.
I bought a couple of bottles of perfume around Christmas time, which I nearly returned as they didn’t smell of anything. But it turned out that the problem was mine!

I haven’t had Covid but I lost my sense of taste after a terrible cold in early 2020. It’s never come back properly sad since then and I’ve had spells when it’s disappeared completely for a time. I’ve taken Covid tests on those occasions but it’s always been negative.

I can smell things but yup, the taste is either non-existent or insipid. I’ve also has times when I’ve had a horrible taste left in my mouth.

Can you up your levels of zinc in your diet? From what I can remember it’s taste and smell that are last to return after the immune system has taken a severe battering.
I’m thinking nuts, seeds, lean red meat, diary, eggs, fortified breakfasts cereal.
No doubt it will be a long job, months rather than weeks.
What about our high street shop, Holland and barratt? Or boots, perhaps a good supplement would help.

Someone with more knowledge than me can perhaps advise.

I've been fortunate enough to avoid covid, but I did go into septic shock and almost lost my life 3 years ago. I'm no longer the person I once was and have been diagnosed with post sepsis syndrome, which has in parts been likened to long covid. Amongst other things, my taste for certain food and drinks has really changed. Ice cream - I used to hate but now I love, humous I used to love but now literally cannot stand anyone to be eating it near me and so the list goes on. Strange and inexplicable the worst being I now cannot even stand the smell of gin... yes I used to love a g&t ?

3dognight, that’s very interesting, thank you
BladeAnnie, nooo! Not the gin!

I lost my taste and smell in in Nov/ Dec 2019 after contracting a nasty little virus ( I wonder what that was ?)
I can count on one hand the food and drink I can smell/ taste.

that is a well known effect of long covid, or post covid syndrome OP, not specifically with coffee, but strange changes or absence of taste/smell.
have you tried different types of coffee, try some cheapo instant.
if it is still unbearable, there's bound to be someone who can use it.
all the best.

My friend, who was an avid coffee drinker, has experienced this and is now totally on hot chocolate.
