Oh I am envious GG , I have been quietly in love with Rod Stewart since I was 14 . I’d probably have swooned ??

Charlie , Sam is prepared for any heat this week but now he is 8 he will no doubt find a cool spot and wait for someone to bring him an Icecream ?

Have a good evening all xx

Gosh London was hot today!
I must have been the only person coming out of the Underground at Oval station who wasn’t going to the Test match! Fending off endless ticket touts I jumped on a bus only to find it was going in the wrong direction and I was swept back to Vauxhall. Trying to go south again was a nightmare because of the crowds heading to the cricket, but I eventually made it to the South London Gallery where the 14 of us were all meeting for coffee and pastries.
Our cookery demonstration/lesson at Persepolis was a lovely introduction to the banquet that followed - dish after dish of delicious Persian delicacies followed by champagne and birthday cake for my Sis in law’s big birthday.
Home at 8 - zorsted!

Ooh GG13 I’m star struck! I still love ‘Maggie May’. That gravelly voice! 1971.

“Wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin' to say to you
It's late September and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused, but I feel I'm being used
Oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that's what really hurts
The mornin' sun when it's in your face really shows your age
But that don't worry me none, in my eyes, you're everything
I laughed at all of your jokes, my love, you didn't need to coax
Oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my soul, and that's a pain I can do without”

Apparently 'Maggie May' is about the conflicted emotions of a boy involved in a relationship with an older woman and was written from Rod's own experience. In the January 2007 issue of Q magazine, he said: "'Maggie May' was more or less a true story, about the first woman I had sex with, at the 1961 Beaulieu Jazz Festival."

A rock legend!

Good evening lovely Kitcheners, it’s been a perfect Autumn day here and we’ve been gardening. I’m trying to read everything but can hardly keep my eyes open! Urms I’m with L’il Miss, I’d rather have pudding than burgers!

Hope you all have a restful night, TOYA.

Grandmabatty Sun 05-Sept-21 19:31:59

Sounds tasty Urmstongran. I think your granddaughter and I would get on well!

Urmstongran Sun 05-Sept-21 19:23:27

Just been chatting to our youngest daughter. Our ‘L’il miss’ starts Reception tomorrow. She’s 4 and a half. She told mummy today that she’s not wearing the navy blue school knickers tomorrow and she’s not having a school dinner on Wednesday either. She wants her usual packed lunch in her ‘Frozen’ lunch box as per nursery. Hmm.

Big brother (9y) tried to win her round apparently.

Boy wonder: You’ll like the dinners. We have beef burgers at school and they’re nicer than home ones.

L’il Miss: I don’t like burgers anyway.

Boy Wonder: well, what do you like?

L’il Miss: Puddings ...

??

Seems she’ll be existing on sponge cake and custard for a few days! Fit right in at soops!

Jaxjacky Sun 05-Sept-21 19:08:20

SueDonim you seem to have been pretty busy yourself! More than us today, Sunday’s are usually pottering, I did clean the bathrooms as I have some busy days looming and garden/greenhouse watered.
Love the hare N&G clever lady.
DD had the GC’s at the beach for 9:30 in this glorious weather, back to the school regime for all of them tomorrow. Sleep well all. X

Urmstongran Sun 05-Sept-21 18:43:47

‘Evening All’.

We all like to be missed/welcomed back so thank you SueDonim. I’m certainly not one of the ‘busy’ posters you refer to!
#lazygran

N&G I adore the star gazing hare! He’s so cute. I almost don’t mind missing a slice of cake if he’s the substitute in the kitchen tonight!

Up from the gardens. Showered and just been passed a glass of Baron de Ley wine by Himself. He is watching the England game. Ohm, they’ve just scored another - it’s 3-0 now.
⚽️ ⚽️⚽️ ?

Not eating out tonight. Oh that means I’ve got to ‘assemble’ something ... I’ve par-boiled some potato cubes. They’re drained and on the side for my attention at some stage. I shall lightly fry a chopped onion, garlic, smoky paprika, some chorizo then toss the potatoes in to fry until a golden crunchy brown (or tad burnt as is my usual MO). But that’s for in another hour or so. In the meantime, My book beckons ...

Good afternoon dear kitcheners and thank you everyone for you good wishes ?. Yes we've had a year of weddings and babies in the BA household - after so many months of upset and uncertainty it's a lovely time. However we as a family are still being ultra-careful and I'm looking around for a mask to match my mother-of-the-bride garb. Obviously not to wear all day but just so I have one to hand!! How is it that my little girl is all grown up and getting married?? I expect until the 14th my life is going to be a bit of a whirlwind!! Hope everyone has a pleasant evening and sending virtual hugs to all in need of a little comfort

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 05-Sept-21 15:51:29

Good afternoon kitcheners. Spent morning with my grandchildren to give mum and dad a break. Very warm here and more hot weather on the way. DD here now which is lovely. Realise in the past I bombard my AC with questions while now I just let things unravel. Plus I offer my opinion if asked rather than assume my thoughts are essential! Managed to clean bathroom so at least one room in the house is looking sparkly. Cannot think what's for tea. Had porridge for breakfast for first time in ages. Take care everyone.

SueDonim Sun 05-Sept-21 14:50:59

Hello! You’re all so busy, I’m not sure I can keep up with everyone. smile

Urmstongran it’s lovely to see you here, as I’d missed you on other threads. I definitely am envy of your lifestyle! grin Though I probably wouldn’t like it very hot. I really only thrive in temperatures between 20 and 25deg. Any more and it’s too much, any less, I’m a chilly mortal.

I hope your migraine cleared up, Soop and you’re enjoying your break. We’ve finally finished doing the laundry from The Grubs all coming here to stay. We’re still searching for kitchen items that have put away in the wrong place, though. All my tablespoons had disappeared! confused Found them scattered around in various drawers, eventually.

I spent Thu/Fri visiting my 93yo mother and then looking after my little GD. It’s a two hour drive away. Mum refused to go out anywhere for lunch but only had biscuits to offer me so I went from breakfast time to 5:30pm on just two biscuits and a cup of coffee.

My GD is at a new nursery and I got lost trying to get there. Of course, it was simple, once I did find it! My GD successfully gave me directions from the back of the car for getting back home - she’s only three! We had a standoff over an uneaten cheese sandwich the next day. It was a cafe where they have those blooming lollipops for kids that eat their meal. She didn’t, so I refused a lollipop. Cue a sit-down strike on the floor of the cafe, thankfully no screeching, though. She then decided Nanna wasn’t for turning and begrudgingly ate her lunch and got the lollipop. I mentioned it to my dd, in case she thought it was the wrong thing but she heartily endorsed my approach. ?

My GD keeps us all entertained. I took her to drop off a present to one of my oldest friends. GD cross-questioned no less than three of my friend’s neighbours as to who they were, where they lived, whether they have grandchildren and if they do, they must be VERY old, what their dog was called and if they didn’t have a dog, why not. She doesn’t have a dog herself, btw! grin

I came home Friday evening and slept like a log that night, then had a two-hour granny nap yesterday afternoon. blush One cheery thing, though, was that I was mistaken for GD’s mother. Admittedly, I was wearing a mask, but I’ll take my compliments where I can, thank you! grin

So, a quiet weekend for us. I’m about to go and do a bit of messing about with my house plants. I’ve got a Swiss Cheese that’s taking over my sitting room and needs to be properly staked. Also a red oxalis, which has just about stayed alive for three years but then my cats ate more than half of the leaves off this spring. That must have given it a shock as since then it’s gone bananas and exploded in size! confused

Grandmabatty Sun 05-Sept-21 13:46:02

I love the hares! Nannandgrampy. We were out for breakfast with the extended family and friends. It was lovely but unfortunately I had an adverse reaction to coffee which affected my insides. Thank goodness my son's house was close by! I'm drinking water the rest of the day.

Charleygirl5 Sun 05-Sept-21 13:10:32

N&G I am sorry you did not bring the cake to the kitchen- a flat cake means zilch to us, it is the taste. Our need is greater than the birds I think.
How is young Sam? Is he prepared for next week's supposed heatwave?
TOYA

NanaandGrampy Sun 05-Sept-21 12:15:12

Morning kitcheners.

I'm playing catch up in the kitchen as always.

I was going to bring in a nice homemade Victoria sponge .... however the darn thing fell as flat as a pancake in both tins. Now there's something wrong with either the oven or the ingredients as this is my go to cake. Luckily, the birds are not picky!!

Blue skies have arrived here this morning for the first time in forever so I'm hopeful of getting out and about next week.

I'm not sure if I mentioned I was going to do a needle felting class... I have fallen in love with a new craft that I didn't need lol...I'll post a pic of my 2 attempts so far, a star gazer hare that I made in the class and another I made at home that needs some work as the legs don't look right- but practice makes perfect and its more successful than the sponge !

Happy Day all.

fatgran57 Sun 05-Sept-21 09:10:07

Jaxjacky Sat 04-Sept-21 21:46:04

Grandmabatty Sat 04-Sept-21 21:15:15

Very true Tilly. Until tomorrow all. Night night.

TillyTrotter Sat 04-Sept-21 20:50:04

I am blowing the warm winds to you Charleygirl and to you Doodle - should arrive by mid-week. You’ll be turning the heating off quicker than you can say “Abracadabra”.

Often the best times are had when your expectations are low Grandmabatty enjoy that G&T - I am having one with you.
Cheers everyone.

It’s been a lovely sunny day here- I was at a Golden Wedding lunch in a medieval barn near MK and we were milling (?) about, well chatting outside and then between the main course and dessert we were invited to take part in a guided walk round the remains of the abbey and inside a tiny little 14th century chapel .
I believe the forecast for tomorrow is good too,.
I’m in London on the South Bank for a cookery demonstration/lesson for the female members of the family at Persepolis, while the Dads are on childcare duty and joining us at Persepolis for lunch after.
