So, not only had Prince Andrew run home to mummy, The Queen has let it be known to the regiment that she wants the Duke of York to remain as colonel, and the feeling is that nobody wants to do anything that could cause upset to the colonel-in-chief.'
What about those who have been hurt by this so far by these allegations...... Diddums - poor Andrew, I wonder if The Queen spoon feeds him his breakfast and wipes his botty for him also!

Grany why don't you step down from your soapbox and give it a rest for a while.

I live by a very wealthy family and they pay their own security etc. Surely it's not that unusual. Why are we still subsidising the RF?

That's what people may ask question debate monarchy with Billboards

"I would worry greatly at the ability of the great British Public to elect a President with all the qualities you see to think the person would have"

When I read things like this I tend to interpret it as implying that the British can't be trusted with democracy confused

Grany Mon 30-Aug-21 17:55:25

Security Costing over £100 million a year

Grany Mon 30-Aug-21 17:53:05

Welshwife A uniquely British president would have one official residence and an office there is no need for more as RF have.

RF have 19 homes that are publicly funded or heavily subsidised have round the clock security costing over £100 a year that is not accounted for in their annual financial report.

Queen pays tax voluntarily No hereditary tax No capital gains tax or corporation tax on Duchy

Welshwife Mon 30-Aug-21 17:40:25

Grany I would worry greatly at the ability of the great British Public to elect a President with all the qualities you see to think the person would have - the record of electing Prime ,ministers is not that great is it? I know they are not directly elected by the electorate but by the MPs and party members but the leader of the main parties has a big bearing on which party is more popular.
Again it would become a follow the money contest. If you believe that a President would not have several residences you have your head in the sand - the Prime minister has more than one! Most presidents have several ‘homes’ at their disposal.
The RF does pay tax and the income from a number of properties goes to the State. Besides which they do give people employment.

Teacheranne

Grany, why do you always write billboards with a capital letter? Am I missing something?

I’m not having a go at you, it’s a genuine question.

I guess because Teacheranne Billboards around the country to debate having a monarchy it's significant and deserves a capital letter.

That's right MayBee he was ridiculed for years.

Prince Charles, to be fair to him, was green years before it was fashionable to be so and was rather ridiculed for it.

How about this

The reality is that Prince Charles has long liked to live high on the hog and this expensive carbon-heavy lifestyle undermines his advocacy for a low carbon green agenda to combat global warming

fFS Really!! Why celebrate the attendance at a climate summit of an unelected head of state who lobbied to be exempted from climate regulations? Structural inequality that props up the status quo is part of the problem. Abolish the monarchy!

If the U.K. had to vote for a president I very much fear we’d end up with someone like Nigel Farageshock?

Is this some kind of quid pro quo? One of your citizens killed one of ours so one our princes is allowed to sexually abuse one of your children. Allegedly.

I'd hope that people who will have a choice will be more discerning. Take for instance The Irish president As well as having a successful political career Higgins has had a career as a poet and broadcaster and has produced works of non-fiction.

He has contributed widely to political and philosophical journals on numerous subjects, among them ideology, the sociology of literature, clientelism in politics, regionalism and the politics of the media

Higgins has campaigned for human rights and written of conflict in many parts of the world, including such areas as Nicaragua, Chile, Cambodia, El Salvador, Iraq and Somalia.

Equally presidents of other countries too have accomplished much and are well respected in their job as Heads of State of their countries. New Billboards up soon smile

eazybee Mon 30-Aug-21 13:36:48

Ah, the billboards. As Ogden Nash wrote:

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree.
Indeed unless the billboards fall
I'll never see a tree at all.

Grany Mon 30-Aug-21 13:26:04

This is a royal thread Aveline RF in the news and Billboards

Prosecutors last year sent the British government a formal request, known as a mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) submission, asking for access to the prince so they could talk to him. Andrew still hasn’t cooperated.
