So, not only had Prince Andrew run home to mummy, The Queen has let it be known to the regiment that she wants the Duke of York to remain as colonel, and the feeling is that nobody wants to do anything that could cause upset to the colonel-in-chief.'
What about those who have been hurt by this so far by these allegations...... Diddums - poor Andrew, I wonder if The Queen spoon feeds him his breakfast and wipes his botty for him also!

I really, REALLY don't understand this desire to have letters after your name based on whether the RF or the government think you're a good chap/chapess ?. Why would having yourself addressed as Dame Alegrias matter to a person? I have much more respect for people who turn the honours down.

Anniebach Mon 06-Sept-21 09:00:29

I am a yes/no person re the honours lists.

Celebrity lovies ? No. Sir Paul Maccartney, Dame Judi Dench etc.

Big business ? No. Sir Richard Branson etc.

Joe/ Joan Blogs? yes, they have done much for their communities and have been put forward for an OBE by their
community to say thank you.

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 09:04:19

You don't get put forward for an OBE, you just get put forward for recognition and some unknown person decides what you're worth, or if you're worth anything at all.

Ask me how I know wink

Anniebach Mon 06-Sept-21 09:11:40

I know, how do you know ?

Alegrias1 Mon 06-Sept-21 09:13:00

Personal experience of nominating people, before I was worldly wise smile

Aveline Mon 06-Sept-21 09:39:03

Various committees review nominations and decide yes/no or what level to award.

PA must be fitter than he looks. According to the title of this thread he ran home to mummy and has also run "home to Balmoral with Fergie". Doesn't he have a car?

Odd that Newatthis has not returned at all to explain her rather childish thread title. Or indeed to say anything else.
If I’ve missed it I’ll have happily have cream with my humble pie.

Two minor corrections:

Petera for the purposes of sexual offences committed against children, a child is a person under 16.

trisher Stephen Ward did commit suicide, but not in jail.

Absolutely agree with your posts Casdon.

Just a fairly major correction as this is very important. The law says nothing of the sort and there are a range of sexual offences that defined as offences committed against children under 18; for example abuse committed by someone in a position of trust.

What the law actually say is that it is not, in many but not all cases, illegal to have sex with a 16-year old, but it still very clearly defines that person as a child.

@GerryHassan

The UK Royal Family plc for Sale. Yet more reputational damage to the UK Royals as Prince Charles is revealed to be operating #CashforHonours. Even a decade ago a cartoon like this would have been unthinkable in The Times. By Morten Morland.

No mention on the news this morning that it has been revealed
Charles accepts cash for honours.

trisher Mon 06-Sept-21 13:04:42

There was item saying the head of his charity had "stepped down" because of such allegations

Anniebach Mon 06-Sept-21 13:59:21

Yes that was two days ago, he has temporarily stepped down because of the allegations

Grany’s post, Charles is revealed to be operating cash for honours’.

Expect she got over excited

trisher Mon 06-Sept-21 14:14:11

No that was last night. No "temporarily" just "stepped down".

trisher Mon 06-Sept-21 14:19:53

It isn't just to do with honours either . He was trying to buy British citizenship. nypost.com/2021/09/06/prince-charles-longtime-aide-michael-fawcett-steps-down-amid-golden-visa-scandal/

Anniebach Mon 06-Sept-21 14:27:55

The British press say ‘temporarily stepped down’

trisher Mon 06-Sept-21 14:48:39

So only concerned with if he has permanently gone Annie nothing to say about someone who obviously thought he could buy not only honours but citizenship as well. Makes Charles look like the bargain basement of the honours system. Bet there are a lot just waiting for him to be king so they can buy a title.

Anniebach Mon 06-Sept-21 15:14:14

trisher you are jumping ahead in your eagerness.

Is the man now a British citizen?

Graham Smith, CEO of campaign group Republic, has reported Prince Charles and Michael Fawcett to the police, on suspicion of breaching the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925.

The report follows revelations over the weekend that honours were suspected of being offered and procured in return for donations to Prince Charles's charities.

It is a criminal offence to procure or offer to procure an honour in return for any favour or reward.

Graham Smith said today:

"Prince Charles has always taken personal credit for raising money for his charities and it was Prince Charles who awarded the honours at a private ceremony."

"It is unclear how Fawcett could personally procure an honour without the direct involvement of the prince, or how this arrangement could be made without the prince being aware of what was being promised."

"Perhaps there's a good explanation for all of this, but the evidence provided in the press over the weekend raises real suspicion about the Prince's conduct and that of his associates."

"I trust the Metropolitan Police to do the right thing, but I have said in my report that this must be given due attention without fear or favour and that the status, position and rank of those involved must in no way influence any decision to investigate."

"Failure to properly investigate these matters will damage public trust in the police, the royals and the honours system."

"Time and again the royals blame their staff or associates for their own mistakes. It is difficult to believe Charles wasn't aware of these arrangements or promises. It's time the royals were personally challenged over their conduct."

Impossible to discuss this , constant posting of other people’s words is not a discussion.

I quite Agee. It's indefensible.

Neen Mon 06-Sept-21 20:25:12

I have absolutely no idea about anything to do with this.
All I know about the royal family is I love William and Harry.

Grany Mon 06-Sept-21 20:29:21

Well it's written clearly what's happened and what should be done

The question is will the police investigate without fear or favour?

Or will the RF be unaccountable and above the law. Pass the buck.

We will see.

Nearly 50 shops a day are disappearing from British High Streets and Prince Charles must shoulder a large portion of the blame.
“The days when one could pop into Woolies and buy a pick ‘n’ mix of an MBE, CBE and a knighthood are long gone,” said wealthy Saudi businessman Shiekh Williams.

“These days, city centres are full of charity shops, branches of Costa and pop-up stores selling lucrative government contracts.

“It’s a shame, but one cannot deny the convenience of logging on to charlieshonoursshop.co.uk, ordering a CBE on a phone and having it delivered to your door the very next day.

“I’ve just made my mum a Dame for her 80th and I’ve already finished my Christmas shopping – honours for the whole family!”

Prince Charles has defended his new Internet store.

“Buying knighthoods online is so much better for the environment,” he explained. “Nobody has to drive to town in a gas-guzzling four by four.

“Sure, it took mother a little while to get used to travelling around in the back of a delivery van with her ceremonial sword but she’s fully on board with the concept now.
