My friend suggested Berkowits No Grey Root Touch Up, and they got instant results with this product. It is light-weight and easy to apply. The coverage looks natural, and it blends seamlessly with the hair. Plus, it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy, making it a great choice for quick touch-ups.

Esspee I have blonde highlights on a brown base and don’t want to interfere with the highlights. If I used a box colour, I would ruin them.
As others have said, the root spray is excellent between hairdressers appointments, which reminds me, I need to go!

I use it inbetween dying my hair but.... word of advice ( hahaha ) don't do as i did, which was to position my glasses on top of my head then when needed them, i placed them in front of my eyes, when i removed them to push them back to the top of my head i had 2 brown marks under my eyes hahahahahaha.... oooops

Esspee

May I ask why those who use it don’t simply do their roots with regular hair colouring? I do and the results are excellent. I use half a packet so relatively inexpensive.
I have seen some shocking sights on ladies who presumably have poor eyesight.

I do my own roots usually and get a great finish. It took a while for me to get used to doing it, but I've got the technique down pat now. I now use a Japanese hair dye (Syoss) and it is fantastic. Much better than any of the UK/US dyes I've used.

But right now, I'm considering my options. Going grey is probably not one of them, but until I can get my hair cut/styled, I'm not that bothered about the in-between stage. I might go lighter, in which case, allowing the grey to grow out is a good idea.

I really don't care how it looks in public. My hair, on my head, my concern only. I ONLY care about how I look for work, which is online at the moment, hence only doing the roots around my face and my parting!

I’ve tried it several times Espee, last time twice in the winter lockdown, but it’s not for me- the back of my head gives me away as I can’t see what I’m doing, so when I touch up the roots it looks patchy, and although I agree the conditioner that comes with the dye is excellent it doesn’t last long enough to use it every time, so my hair becomes dry over time. The root spray and a monthly visit to the hairdresser is easier!

I find the root spray very useful and easy to use. It's a handy quick fix in between visits to the hairdresser.

I hold the can about 8" above the head and spray in a quick ziz-zag down the parting.

Yes use it all the time. Home bargains make a cheap version and it works just fine.

Esspee Tue 31-Aug-21 13:42:36

I have been using L’Oreal hair colouring continually for half a century Casdon and it has never affected the condition of my hair. I sometimes give friends with dry hair the conditioner which comes with my colouring and they love the results.
Why not try it?

Casdon Tue 31-Aug-21 12:53:45

I don’t find doing it myself has excellent results Espee, my hair always looks a mess if I do it myself, and because it’s reasonably long putting dye on top of dye dries it out.

Will give it a try Gagajo. L'Oreal is expensive.

GagaJo Sun 29-Aug-21 11:21:26

I've just realised, I use the Asda own brand one. It's a quarter of the price of the L'Oreal one. Does exactly the same thing though.

I have white bedding but it doesn't discolour it at all. Maybe because I only use it on my parting and around my face?

nadateturbe Sun 29-Aug-21 09:28:32

Yes it works but its not easy to use.

Humbertbear Sun 29-Aug-21 01:34:02

L’Oréal colour spray does work. Even hairdressers use it on clients. Two problems - it discolours your hairbrush and you have to wash it off before hair dye is put on.
My DiL says it discolours white pillowcases but I don’t like white bed linen.

Casdon Sat 28-Aug-21 23:12:56

I can honestly say I’ve never had the problem you describe Happygirl79. I have my roots done every four weeks at the hairdressers, and use the root spray for two weeks before I go, but my hair colour has always taken perfectly at the hairdressers, I don’t even wash the root spray out before the colour is applied there. May depend on the brand you use?

Sago Sat 28-Aug-21 22:48:22

Use Batiste dry shampoo hint of colour.
It’s superb and £3 a tin.

nadateturbe Sat 28-Aug-21 22:20:24

I have used the L'Oreal one. It goes everywhere! Fiddly to use. I prefer using my semu permanent Boots hair colour. Better to have a little brush touch up kit.

BigBertha1 Sat 28-Aug-21 22:01:23

I don't like itbut its handy on the occasion..Josh Wood is a better quality one and the hair colours are much better than the other well known brands.

Happygirl79 Sat 28-Aug-21 21:50:55

I can't recommend it. I found that after using it my normal hair colour retouch done by my hairdresser wouldn't take no matter how long it was left on my hair. It caused me issues for six months or more
Not worth the hassle
It builds a residue which can't easily be removed and normal hair colour can't take properly because of it. Beware.

Millie22 Sat 28-Aug-21 20:54:47

I tried it once when I couldn't get my usual powder and the flipping stuff went everywhere and was really watery.

GagaJo Sat 28-Aug-21 20:02:40

I use it at the moment. I wash my hair every 3 days. I apply it the day I wash it and it more or less stays on for the 3 days.

The spray is very effective BUT it gets all over your scalp. I really wish they did one in a pot with a brush to apply it with. The spray irritates my scalp and I end up having to try to clean it off my scalp with a baby wipe.

It doesn't damage my hair though, but it doesn't feel nice on the hair. It washes out with no problem each time. I've been doing it for 2 months now.

For me, it's a good stop gap, until I decide what I'm doing about dying my hair.

FlexibleFriend Sat 28-Aug-21 19:55:05

I've used it on occasions and been happy with it, it's not meant for long term use. It's certainly not damaged my hair and as foxie48 says it's not noticeable once brushed in. I too just use it along the parting.

foxie48 Sat 28-Aug-21 19:07:31

I use it between colours and find it excellent. It does make my hair a bit sticky but I keep it close to the scalp on my parting, so use very little. It doesn't seem to affect the quality of my hair in any way and once brushed in I honestly don't notice it except I don't have a grey parting. Well worth a try, it also makes my hair look thicker if I get a little on my scalp.

Casdon Sat 28-Aug-21 19:02:02

I think the l’Oreal magic root spray is very effective, I use it straight after I’ve washed my hair and don’t usually need to do it again every day until I wash it again. It does feel stiff, but that doesn’t bother me, as visually the results are excellent, and nothing looks worse than a grey parting. I’ve been using it for years, and it hasn’t made any difference to the condition of my hair, although I can see that if you sprayed it copiously it might.

Sorry should be Garnier Express Retouch
