Just reading a post by FannyCornforth and had to laugh at her nicknames for her neighbours, I've got nicknames for most of my neighbours like Jacky Gingernut, The Solicitor, Little Miss Snooty to name but a few - anyone else do this?

Elless Sun 05-Sept-21 10:08:35

When my children were young they always called my Mum Tata Nana because she always said Tata instead of goodbye.

My late BIL used to call me Mrs Dash, apparently I used to say " I just have to dash to the shops" or " I can't stop, must dash ".

Don't have nicknames for any of my neighbours!

I met my DH in Singapore, and after we started going out he revealed that he and his friends had nicknames for me and my girlfriends - I was The Mexican, (I had a dress with a distinctive Aztec style pattern), another was Fancypants, and a third was Olga.

When I was at university, I found out that a load of the ‘science lads’ referred to me as Julian Clary.
I did look quite a bit like him in the 90s.

And when I was at school I was Octavia the Ostrich (behind my back - but I found this actually quite flattering. Long neck, big eyes? I’ll take it!)

Has anyone else found out their ‘secret’ nickname?

I must live amongst really boring people because we have no nicknames for our neighbours? But maybe they have nicknames for us......'The Boring Couple' maybe! grin

BBbevan Sun 05-Sept-21 06:07:14

Yes but who would want to, plait it I mean ?

SpringyChicken Sat 04-Sept-21 23:07:57

We have Mrs Busy (always rushing here and there, carries a huge shopping bag wherever she goes) and her husband, Hairy Nose (nose hair so long he could plait it). Well, maybe it's not quite that long.

Absolutely brilliant, I cried laughing at some of these, I used to have Mrs Nextdoor and now we have The Missing Link living next door to us. Just to appease absent, I always joke to DH that our neighbours must call us 'The Golightly's' as we are both a bit chunky winkgrin

I don't know many of my neighbours but the ones I do know I refer to by their given names. If I refer to the others, I say "the woman who lives at number 17" or "the couple who live at number five". Surely, if you don't people well enough to call them by the names, such nicknames are disparaging.

I don't think we have nicknames for most of ours either, absent, apart from the rude one.

Some on here are very funny but some are shockingly rude!!

Still laughing about Double Denim Dave though
Try saying that after a wine

We have Demolition man, drives a demolition company van and parks it under our CCTV camera.
Chocolate teapot, because he seems incapable of doing any home maintenance or garden tidying.
The Tardis, a flat that appears to house dozens of people.
The Littlies, a young family with two children born less than a year apart.
We used to have a foul mouthed, shouty man we called Neanderthal but he got evicted (oh dear, I wonder why)

Grandma70s Sat 04-Sept-21 08:53:41

We used to have Mrs Clock, who always left the house at exactly 8 am. My children timed setting off for school by her.

Howard and Hilda, who did everything together, one never seen without the other. A reference to the sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles.

BBbevan Sat 04-Sept-21 08:42:00

We had a Mr Blobby, which we had to change to Mr Bobby when the GDs came along

Oh dear. Sense of humour failure here ??

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Sept-21 07:55:07

absent if you knew some of my neighbours, you most probably would ‘disparage’ them.
The nice ones, of course, are referred to by their given names.
John two doors down is known as ‘Neighbour John’ to differentiate him from the aforementioned ‘Trouser John’.

What?! ‘Angry’ people on social media being ‘really nice’ in real life!? shockgrin

Lucca Sat 04-Sept-21 07:35:04

He’s actually my DS neighbour and is mostly angry on the neighbourhood WhatsApp about parking misdemeanours etc ! But is in fact quite nice

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Sept-21 07:29:28

I don’t like the sound of Angry Gavin. Do you think the he and The A***hole next door to me would get on?

Lucca Sat 04-Sept-21 07:09:16

Puffing Billy
Angry Gavin
Mrs Wave a lot
Average Dad

Calendargirl Sat 04-Sept-21 06:51:41

The Pharmacist (used to work for Boots)

Mrs Bouquet (Bucket)

Happy Harry (not)

The Fit Family

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Sept-21 06:21:47

Further to the three characters next door:

The rather odd chap who lives in the ‘big house’ across the road is called ‘Trouser John’.

This is due to him fighting a constant loosing battle with his jeans. They are forever slipping down due to his considerable belly.

He’s always got one hand nervously hovering around his belt.
Watching him doing anything which requires the use of two hands (eg getting in or out of his car; putting out the bins; mowing the lawn) is always a treat.
He was also briefly known as ‘Loo brush John’ because he had one proudly displayed in the centre of his bedroom window.

BigBertha1 Sat 04-Sept-21 06:06:48

We have Fire up the Quatro, the policeman, Dave the Dog, running lady, Nathan and his bloody trailer, Churchill (its a dog).

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 03-Sept-21 23:34:41

We have Roofman over the road. We used to have the Bank robber next door! OH was convinced he looked like a bank robber.

Zoejory Fri 03-Sept-21 21:36:59

We have a Miss Prim Knickers and a Crazy Coconut Man

BridgetPark Fri 03-Sept-21 21:35:39
