Because I can’t.

I always buy satsumas but I couldnt tell you why. And what about clementines? I have just googled and apparently tangerines are the least sweet.

Grandmajean Fri 03-Sept-21 16:44:58

Yes. They smell different from each other and tangerines have seeds as a rule. Satsumas are often seedless.

Blossoming Fri 03-Sept-21 16:46:54

I love clementines.

I have just Googled too. Tangerines have tougher skins. I prefer my explanationgrin

Now you’re really confusing the issue Blossoming grin

But can you tell from looking at them?

Grannynannywanny Fri 03-Sept-21 16:51:18

I find satsumas a bit plumper and the skin looser and easier to peel. Tangerines have a sharper taste I think.

I recommend the “king satsumas” in Aldi. Slightly bigger than average and delicious. Usually 4 in a pack.

No, I can't and wish I could as tangerines have a distinctive flavour. I usually buy the 'easy-peelers' now and they come in all sorts of flavours and pip quantities.

Also - aren’t they all marvellous words: satsuma, tangerine, clementine.

Clementine was Churchill’s mother. I wonder if it’s gaining in popularity as a name, I think that it’s lovely

It was always tangerines at Christmas back in the 50’s when I was a child, never satsumas or clems.

Lucca Sat 04-Sept-21 06:47:28

So what are the easy peelers?

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Sept-21 06:48:54

Lucca Weren’t they a little known 60s beat combo?

Grannynannywanny Sat 04-Sept-21 07:16:49

Here is the link to what I’ve just read on google. Apparently mandarin is the collective name for them all. Now I’m even more confused. Tangelo anyone?

I was trying to remember how it would flow in Pitman’s shorthand!

How odd to read this thread today when just yesterday I took my 4 year old grandson on an outing and we met a little girl whose name is Clementine, her mum explained she was born at Christmas so it seemed an appropriate name. (The little girl herself is not so keen and prefers to be known as Clemmie.) I really like the name; an unrelated little girl was called Strawberry and I wasn’t so fond of that. Yes, really!)

I agree with Grannynannywanny.
And i shall pop into Aldi today.
