I have noticed that since lockdown i tend to wear the same clothes all the time. I only go out a couple of times a week, shopping and to my knit and natter group so i usually dress in smart casual tousers and top. None of my 'best' clothes have touched my back and in fact a couple of items i bought in the sale in Autumn 2019 still hang in the cupboard with tags on. I intend to have a cull when winter kicks in proper, a being really ruthless as i have so many items of clothing that havent seen the light of day for over 2 years now and obviously they are not really needed. Look out charity shops here i come!!!!!

I was a clothes shopaholic. I don’t wear half of what I buy. I’m retired so don’t need many clothes. My plan was to sell on eBay, give to charity, throw away etc but due to a badly broken ankle, rain has stopped play. My sister and I were going to do a boot sale but lockdown stopped that. Now the boot sales are restarting, we’re coming into winter. Frustrating. Just wish someone like on TV would come in and buy or take the whole lot as I’m in a one bed bungalow and haven’t got the space. My son’s 2nd bedroom has loads of my stuff too as I couldn’t afford storage fees anymore.

I always make the effort when I go out, even if just to the shops or the Post Office, as I feel I should. Otherwise I look very sloppy and scruffy at home in jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt as I am often gardening, messing about with the dogs, and like many posters I haven't worn anything really 'posh' since lockdown began. I too intend to have a thorough sort out and get rid of clothes that haven't been worn for a lot more than two years.

I'm the polar opposite! I wear different outfit every day without fail! I used to have to be really smart for work and habit has continued to a degree. Sometimes I wear full warpaint too, only if I'm not grubbing about in garden or doing housework. I think it's a positive to make the effort as I've seen with my in-laws and others how 'letting go' with grooming and clothes can lead to a bit of a rock bottom in kind too.its been so easy not to bother during lockdown but I'm determined not to end up like so many of our generation who look so I kept and boring it's depressing. We are I think among the scruffiest nation and I think it's a same that we sometimes look and sound as if we're embarrassed to look good, like a kind of inverted snobbery. You rarely catch European laydeez looking like at ladies when out and about!

Last year we ended up getting stuck in Australia at DDs as their winter approached! I had lots of summer things with me so had to buy warmer clothes there. Luckily my new summer dresses came out here in UK when we got back in June! Now I'm back into my Oz clothes which must be feeling dizzy !!

I do the turn the hanger round routine and check my wardrobe after 6 months anything not worn goes to the charity shops or sold on market place.l also have alternate months where l make an effort not to buy anything clothes wise since lockdown lifted have saved a fortune.

During lockdown I worked my way through all my clothes, wearing then washing them and sorting out some for the charity shop.
The postman must have wondered when I answered the door in evening wear.
Although I have favourite outfits I try to make a point of wearing different clothes every day. Why have them if you don’t wear them?

I’ve just had massive clear out - 8 black bags took to cash for clothes got £20! And further 3 bags to Salvation Army. I’ve kept quite a lot as I’m doing well on Mediterranean diet, but it’s put away for now. My reasons for keeping - have I worn in last 2 years, is it in good condition, would I buy it now?

Also cleared out bedding towels etc, feels really good knowing everything in its place etc, and it is needed not just keeping stuff for sake of it!

Having spent most of the past 18 months in leggings and denims I have resolved to buy some casual skirts and dresses that can be worn with loafers and ankle boots.

Change anything next to skin daily but top clothes remain same for a few days depending on what messy jobs I've been indulging in.

I have loads of clothes, many of which are for when I lose weight! I really wish that I could go to bed and someone would sort all my clothes out and leave me with a capsule wardrobe.

*I don't know whether to keep them or demote them to cleaning rags. You can't give them away.*

Actually you can, *JackyB". Many charity shops will take rags as they sell them on. They can be processed and are then used for things like mattress fillings.
Maybe ask at your local and bag them up separately so they don't have to sort them.

Yes, well, as I have said before, we don't have charity shops in Germany. It's hard to get rid of anything.

MTDancer Fri 24-Sep-21 19:57:37

I wear them under jumpers in the winter for an extra layer

123kitty Fri 24-Sep-21 18:40:16

JackyB if your clothes are stained why are you keeping them - surely you wouldn't even want to wear them around the house - get rid of them

Amberone Fri 24-Sep-21 17:33:33

Now I don't go out quite so much I wear nicer things at home - see no point at all in having stuff in cupboards that I never wear. I don't mean dressing up to the nines, or my best t-shirt for decorating, but once something starts to look a bit grubby or tatty it goes in the bin. Most things I've got are quite old anyway, but not worn much. The only thing I've bought in three years is a couple of pairs of flat shoes and a long waterproof coat to replace worn out ones. And a few undies.

When my Mum died, I gave her evening dresses to our local Amdram group.

BlueBelle Fri 24-Sep-21 17:01:42

No I m the complete opposite I put a different set on every day I like things casual but a bit different to run of the mill so charity shop buying is my bag and means I can have a lot more stuff too

Liveinnan Fri 24-Sep-21 16:54:26

I really love clothes. When I left school I went to art college for 3 years on a fashion design course. However, my ex husband never appreciated this as an essential part of what makes me what I am and held the purse strings so tightly I rarely got anything new unless I made it myself. I’ve now been with my second partner nearly 30 years and he’s the same. I do know how to pick’em don’t I! I feel really fabulous when I’m wearing something nice.

Happysexagenarian Fri 24-Sep-21 15:58:51

I'm the same. I seem to wear the same selection of trousers and tops in rotation despite having lots of others in the wardrobe. Most days I wear my older clothes (yesterdays top was at least 20 years old!) because it won't matter if I splash bleach on it or catch it on a rose bush. We don't really socialise, don't go to the pub, we don't even go shopping, so not much point in wearing smart clothes at home. If we do happen to go anywhere or someone visits us then I have all those smart clothes in the wardrobe to choose from. Clothes have never mattered to me very much anyway, I'm very much a casual dresser.

TanaMa Fri 24-Sep-21 15:55:10

Thank you for suggestions - will ask local charity shops first.

M0nica Fri 24-Sep-21 15:45:43

I only buy clothes when I see a need for them. Review my wardrobe twice a year, to see what has had its day and needs replacing and that is it. No clothes with labels dangling, no clothes no longer worn.

Why is it assumed that comfy clothes mean trousers and fleeces in dull colours? I have never worn uncomfortable clothes, whether dressed up for work, parties, or casually, same applies to shoes, nor do I wear dull colours, you can be really comfortable in bright colours and they do not half cheer you up.

Alioop Fri 24-Sep-21 15:44:24

I just wear the same clothes, jeggings and a top, maybe with a cardigan. I dress a little bit better to go shopping, but then come back and change back into my comfy clothes.

*TanaMa*, I have a similar problem to yours, lots of posh frocks (in my case wedding outfits) that I will never wear again, too good to throw away but charity shops won't want them either.
I've been toying with the idea of making them into party dresses for my granddaughter. Anyone else got any better suggestions?

Charity shops do a great deal of online selling or how about a sites like Vinted or EBay.

I don’t know if you have any dress agencies in your area. They look for clothes in very good condition and take a % of the sale price.

SusieB50 Fri 24-Sep-21 15:31:20

I just wear comfortable jeans or trousers and tops all day every day, with the occasional linen dress when very hot . They are actually wearing out and have been unable to find anything that’s not skintight or 60’s flares , neither of which do anything for me . Any ideas please ?

Jess20 Fri 24-Sep-21 15:12:56

JackyB ... Shame we aren't neighbours as all those old t-shirts are just what I need for making rag rugs and cushion covers!
