What does colour mean to you

It’s so interesting to see how different colours affect us all.
There don’t seem to be any rules. Different strokes for different folks.

I like bright colours, they definitely lift my spirits. And I've gone back to childhood as pink is my favourite colour these days. Today I am wearing purple trousers with a pink striped top and a red cardigan.

I am obviously an exception on Gransnet as I prefer neutrals for decor as I find lot of bright colours and patterns gives me sensory overload. There are usually flowers or even a book cover to add a pop of colour which would be jarring against bright cushions etc. I also like art which is better in neutral rooms. I even prefer neutral for my clothes - black, navy, beige, grey and cream although I can cope with animal print. I’m the one merging into the background!

My bedroom is yellow and grey (love it). My guest room is turquoise and white. My study is pink and white. Hubby's study is duck egg blue, white and grey. My bathroom in white but loads of bright aqua coloured towels, soap dishes, shower curtain, etc.
Downstairs rooms - denim blue with navy and white. Kitchen - white with splashes of red and black. Hallway - oranges and pictures going up the stairs that are multicoloured. Downstairs loo - white with green accessories.

And I'm rested, happy and very, very content in my home.

There isnt a colour I dont like. Grey comes in so many shades and is wonderful for allow other colours to dance.
I have a painting g by a friend who only paints sea and sky scapes. All of different shades of grey. It's so mesmerising, I could read new things into it every time I look.

For the home I like warm colours but not busy patterns, and use a rich ivory for contrast.
Am very keen on shades of orange, have no grey in the house at all, but do have a favourite grey jumper which I team with an orange necklace.
I must be keen on blue (for clothes )as I have such a lot and in many shades of it.
If asked, would say that green is my fave colour, yet have no green in the house ( apart from plants) and very little in clothing.
Like others, I try to have as many flowers for colour growing in every season for the garden.

Colour is extremely important to me. I hate neutral beiges in a home, everything from magnolia to brown. I hadn’t realised quite how much it affected me until I met my OH. His flat gave me the heebie jeebies, it was like living in porridge and the contrasting colour was red - probably the most awful choice of all. I couldn’t stay there.
I love the way a colour can make me feel energised, relaxed, or happy, how it can lift my mood. Just putting on a beautifully coloured dress can set the tone for the day. My garden is a riot of colour, right now the autumn colours are a joy so when my mood needs lifting my garden and my home are my sanctuaries.

I love green, I find it very calming

Abby0950, I have a sage green kitchen with white worktops. I did add pops of colour with yellow but it never looked right. Now I have a few orange bits instead and like it much more.

Colour is very important to me and thankfully I can tell immediately if a colour goes with another, similar tone etc. I do not wear bright colours but similar shades of neutral colours with perhaps an accent. It is important to know the difference between tone and shade .

Autumn colours make my heart sing.

I also just like to have colour around me. Not necessarily brilliant colour, but colour. I find houses with all the walls painted white really depressing and people dressed in beige or black likewise.

I love greens and blues too

What a lovely post Cherrytree59, You're right. even grey can be amazing, just looked up at those dramatic clouds scudding across the sky.
Interesting that you associate different colours with different people. I don't have that.
Yes, I feel the same about yellow and daffodils and yet Georgesgran you feel differently.
We're a funny lot aren't we.

dark colours like brown and black make me feel miserable and depressed.
Yellow makes me feel uplifted
Purple makes me feel calm and serene
Red makes me feel energised

Nature and it's colours can never be improved upon.

My favourite colour is Purple, I often wonder why we all have different colours that we favour more than others.

My bedroom is shades of purple and berry colours and when I enter it always makes me happy .
Purple always makes me think of my teenage years.

The purple of the heathers also brings a calm feeling that wraps it's self around me and reminds me of home.

Yellow is my mid grandsons favourite colour, even as a tot every picture he drew would be just different shades of yellow!
My favourite flower is the daffodil.
in the depths of winter, how I look forward to a vase of wonderful yellow daffodils .

Oldest grandson is favourite colour is red, a colour that always lift my spirits.
I often team red with black or navy to give a bit of oomph to an outfit.

My sister's favourite colours are turquoise and teal, when she wears them her face just lights up. When I see these colours I think of her.

Blue of the sky and blue of the sea never fails to remind me, how glorious out planet is.

Grey I know is quite a dull colour in itself.
But oh my just look up to the sky! B
Drama no less , brooding cloud, storm clouds, twister plumes of grey, in fact grey of all shades imaginable.
Often shades of light filter through, just adding to the drama.

I love the colours of the trees. They are calming and restful. Orange and yellow are happy colours and I like most shades of blue. Not keen on brown and purple.

My school uniform was brown - suited me then, but hate brown now. I wear a lot of black, grey, navy but always highlighted by colourful accessories. I really dislike yellow - both indoors and out and don’t even buy daffodils.

I love colour, we have a second home/ holiday let when we arrive my spirits lift as it’s so light airy and we have put vibrant colour everywhere.

Oh Eazybee I had a Dollyrocker dress
It was lovely. High waisted silky material with a pattern of tiny flowers. It was my "lucky" dress as I always had a good time when I wore it. Pearl buttons down the front of the bodice.
Colours ? I really dislike brown unless in Autumn leaves. My bathroom is grey tiled walls with green accessories and I love it.
Don't suit brown in clothes - does nothing for me. Love rose ? pink.

I was admiring Prue Leiths' bold choice of colour in her new home recently, on a garden programme. Wow it was very bright, but looked wonderful. I am not so brave, apart from easily replaced items like cushions.
