Dont Forget That British Summer Time ends ...............

There was some experiment in 1968 (the year DS2 was born in December). In the maternity ward we fed the babies in the dark at 6.0 am., it was barely light for their second feed at 10.0 am.

I remember something like that but it was more like the late 60s early 70s , summer time was kept for the winter , then it was double summer time for the following summer .
I seem to remember brighter mornings and darker evenings , the farmers didn’t like it

Until some time in the 1990s the UK used to end summer time near the end of September. There was about a month when UK had gone back but mainland Europe had not.

Apparently it caused issues over ferry timetables and connecting trains in the UK.

It affected me, because at that time one could get German television channels in the UK live and in the clear on the Astra satellite system (commonly called 'a Sky System' by many) as Sky simply had some channels on the Astra platform, so if one had the platform, one got the extra channels too. There was one show I liked that was regularly on on Tuesday evenings, and it was usually 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm UK time each week, but for that month or so it started an hour later UK time, as it was always broadcast at 8:15 pm in Germany.

I didn't know about the double summer time Maywalk but I do remember the few years when UK stopped altering the clocks.

I will always be up for an extra hour in bed, could sleep for Britain most nights.
Not a fan of winter though and would like to come back as a bear.

Even one hour takes me a week to adapt! I have a clock in every room, five in total, plus three appliances with clocks, and my watch, so it's all a bit of a faff.

I seem to remember that the first time I ever became aware of double British Summer Time ever having happened was in the 1950s when the goon show was on radio and there was something about a photograph that had been taken during double British Summer Time.

My heart always sinks at this time - I hate driving in the dark.

I do not bother to change the clock in my far, so very soon it will be right for the first time in 6 months!

Pleased the GC’s are staying tonight rather than tomorrow! 8 year olds are more focused on their breakfast than a lie in, the 14 year old will be fine. I’d not heard of double time, thank you Maywalk.

I heard of you Maywalk but I wasn’t born then. I remember my aunts talking about it. I quite enjoy the extra lie in on the Sunday, the dark evenings not so much.
