Does anybody know an easy way to open the cap on this mouthwash bottle? I have just spent over 10 minutes trying to open it, even using scissors which slipped and nearly gashed my hand. I give up now ?

I hope shinamae managed to open her mouthwash. Since it's a year since the OP I expect she managed.

As mentioned above.

Yes, Hetty, that’s yet another thing to contend with. I really struggle with butternut squash! We’ve got an opener for jars etc. which I think came from Lakeland. It works well most of the time. Please try to avoid using sharp items, as I’ve cut myself in the past doing this, probably as I was enraged at the time!

I use my trusty Swiss Army knife to cut through the nasty little plastic bits Shinamae. They’re supposed to break when you twist the cap, but of course they don’t.

and the recipe (good, but I'll double the apple content next time): www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/red-cabbage-apples

I thought I must be getting arthritic and weak - when I got a large knife jammed in the middle of a red cabbage. I wanted to make some spiced cabbage with apple - to see if my daughter liked it, before Christmas). I just left it there until she came. She laughed, said 'All your knives are blunt!' - and got me this: www.amazon.co.uk/AnySharp-Knife-Sharpener-PowerGrip-Silver/dp/B0029X0RTU/ref=zg_bs_3187143031_sccl_1/259-2464915-9283718?psc=1&tag=gransnetforum-21

Sometimes jars are easier to open if you hold the lid and turn the jar. Not 100% foolproof, but it works some of the time.

Hi that’s a great idea will try it.
I have a couple of ideas to open jam jars etc use a bottle opener to release the vacuum , if it’s not the vacuum that’s the problem then gently tap around the lid in the direction to open
Using a glancing tap . You will soon have it open.

I think they do. But I can’t remember where I read it or which supermarket said it.

Jannicans

Why do shops not provide a service whereby they will open the ungettable into bottles for people who can't do it or the people proof hard plastic containers that need a chainsaw to to possibly open them. It would be a much appreciated service.

?????????????

I sit and hold the bottle between my knees and use the palms of my hands to squeeze and turn cap. I get more pressure on the top that way. Rheumatoid arthritis in hands makes life difficult but rubber gloves and the stuff you can put under doormat to stop slippage is useful sometimes too.

There are electric jar openers that adjust to the size of the jar. I bought one from Coopers of Stortfood, but they are on Amazon and the like.

Right! See the two smooth thumb shaped panels on the cap rim? Squeeze them in with thumb and forefinger and twist! Should open fine hope helps?

What a lovely thought that would be but I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that it’s the little pieces of plastic that are holding the cap on the bottle and there are several of them and they are so tough.. but thanks anyway

You can just use a tea spoon to press upwards (lever it upwards) on the rim of the lid of e.g. a jar of jam, until the vacuum is released. Then it opens easily. But why do manufacturers not realise the problems they are creating with so many lids and putting off customers? Safety is important of course - but so is being able actually to access whatever is in the jar or bottle!

Jars are easy to open ,just stab a hole in the lid to release the vacuum

Noooooo! We're not savages darling?

I've come to the conclusion everything is designed by and for 25 year old men! I'm struggling with various things and am not particularly unfit: bottles, jars, medicine containers; things on top shelves; folding tables at our church group; the background music on dramas which makes the speech less audible; lots of other things.....
They should have a panel of over-sixties who test things out and reject the design if it doesn't work for them. I'd volunteer.
