Double original quote

This morning, at third attempt, the roofers turned up to scrape the moss from our workshop roof. 15 mins in and the boss knocks, says that it will take more than a day and the price will be another £500 + £100 to take away the moss. Well perhaps if they had turned up on time instead of 11am, but doubling the amount is really taking the p****. I suppose they rely on you feeling guilty because they have started. Well they lost that job and told them not to bother quoting for our house.

Anyone know a good handyman in north Scotland ?

I've researched having this done and saw recommendations it has to be done by hand to avoid damage. Was it being done by hand?

Yes by hand, would not have it pressure washed. It is 1500 square feet. (Think of a garage for 12 cars). Thought the original quote of £600 was a lot, but our landlords are insisting we get it done.

What a stupid boss to quote for one day's work at over 100 sq ft - unless that was a trick to get the work. I hope you can get another company to offer two day quote to compare.

Is it worth changing it to a 'green' roof?

I don't mean green roof - I mean the roof with plants which filter the water - is it a 'growing roof'? Can't remember the correct term.

We would really like to buy the unit and are negotiating (still a long way apart!), then we can do what we like. Unfortunately there is not much choice of contractors up here. Think you might see this ageing granny siting up there for a few days come next summer

Definitely a trick. Next door which is half the size was done in well less than a day - just need the tenant to remember who did it !
