The cannabis oil or capsules for pain are legal and the THC which causes the high has been removed. Even my ex MIL has started taking it and she can now touch her toes she tells me!

Smoking weed
(221 Posts)This is a very bold question posed after reading an answer on another thread.
Do/have you ever smoked cannabis and did you like it?
I was watching a tv programme recently where people got very silly smoking it and I shocked my GD by remarking I would quite like a puff to see what it was like.
Yes, but the only time I felt any effect was after my first time of doing so - & I shortly found I was going down with Mumps. Any other time after that, - nothing at all.
Tried once at a teenage party it did nothing and all the others were stoned giggling and boring as anything. Never again..and have God son who smoked cannabis every day at uni and ruined his brain, psychotic, schizophrenic, on medication, sectioned umpteen times ruined his life. His father abandoned the family just before Christmas when he was 12, we had them all to stay, a poor traumatised family, he's 32 now, still not independent, still can't hold down a job, he was a physicist and very clever.I blame his father and drug dealers who prey on people weakened by traumatic family circumstances..I do for the Singapore option for the scum who destroyed him
No. Never had the inclination or felt the need.
When my sister was going through chemo, after each treatment there would follow endless vomiting to the point where she would have to be admitted to be rehydrated. A friend of a friend came round with a small amount of cannabis and said it might help with the nausea. It was magical; within seconds of the smallest puff, she’d stop retching and heaving and drift off for in a restorative sleep. It helped her eat small amounts as well. It wasn’t a miracle and didn’t save her life, but it eased a hideous time.
Another very elderly friend had Parkinson’s and the ‘bouncing’ effect that her medications gave her were much eased by cannabis, she loved it when my father would visit with a supply, they’d sit and chat and smoke and generally have a lovely time.
I don’t know why people sound amazed when someone they know has abused the drug for decades and is then a broken person. Would you not expect the same if someone was abusing alcohol, pain killers, downers, uppers, whatever to the same extent over the same amount of time?
Hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t be in this group. Smoked it since 1966 to varying degrees. None since Covid as I wanted to keep lungs smoke free. But I don’t drink
Thank you for telling me your different experiences, both good and bad.
I have decided not to bother trying it, I have left it too late I fear.
84 is too old for experimentation ?

Never did in the 60s, but like others have wondered so bought some cannabis biscuits in Amsterdam a couple of years ago.
Felt very daring and made sure we were sitting down ( in case we fell down) with a cup of tea and finished the pack? Waited and realised we had been had.
Nada, zilch, we were disappointed but it was worth paying silly money fir biscuits to see our AC reactions of disbelief, shock/horror. Made it all worth while.
If I had an opportunity I would probably have a try. It’s never too late. Is it? Probably prefer to eat something than smoke it though.
Good thing they were fake Silver. When cannabis is eaten it can take 45 mins or more for the effect to be felt. Advice is to eat a small amount, then wait at least an hour before consuming any more. Overdosing is very unpleasant and easily done.

About 8 years ago I said to an old friend I'd never tried it in my youth, so he obtained some quality cannabis resin. We sat down with a glass of wine, and smoked it. I felt absolutely nothing, no reaction at all! He was very disappointed as he had gone to some trouble and thought I would enjoy the experience.
That often happens the first time. The next time you get it!
Quite regularly in the 70s but it was a different thing from the skunk they smoke today. I only smoked it at weekends and occasional evenings. It enhanced the enjoyment of music, food, sex and sleep! And a lot if things were a lot funnier than in real life. Sometimes baked it in a cake which had a slightly different effect. Also tried LSD which I enjoyed but saw others who had a pretty bad time with it, and it lasted about fourteen hours so a bit risky. Purple Hearts made me bad tempered and fidgety so not recommended. In the long hot summer of 76 we successfully grew some very healthy plants on the roof in the valley area between the two gables.
I wouldn’t try the modern version of cannabis though, it can trigger psychosis and seems to make users aggressive which the old version never did.
Yes a few times. The best experience was in Amsterdam but I don't like smoking so would rather eat it in a cake.
My OH managed to get me some whilst I was suffering a particularly bad episode of arthritis. 3 puffs and I lost the use of my legs and couldn’t open my eyes or speak properly. NEVER AGAIN! It was awful.
Yes in my 20s and I didn't mind it all. I laughed so much and then I got the munchies, I ate anything I could get my hands on. I've never tried it again since though.
I smoked it now and again as a student about 40 years ago. It just made me giggle and feel hungry. Not sure that I would now unless I needed it for medical reasons because it seems to be so much stronger. I agree that it should be legalised and above board to get rid of the crime associated with getting hold of it. Alcohol seems much more destructive and makes you ill.
Never willingly tried any drugs. I did fracture my wrist once and had to have a metal plate fitted to help it heal, the Anaesthetist gave me an injection of something and I felt a wonderful feeling come over me, just pure total bliss. I asked him what it was and he said "it's Fentanyl my dear, 50 times stronger than Heroin. Enjoy!" I certainly did until I went out like a light and just felt normal when I woke up.
I did once at the grand old age of 55 it was a surreal experience the garden we were in had tall trees and bushes all around it I can remember being amazed by how suddenly they turned a very vivid shade of green that was my first and last time
Yes. Senses heightened. Everything is 8 times funnier and even the crappiest food tastes A-mazing! Lol.
I tried smoking ordinary cigarettes at the age of 15 and was sick all day! Terrible! Never tried cannabis in case I was ill. The smell is horrible and cannot see the attraction.
I never tried it in the seventies when I was young because the people I knew then who smoked it, and there were lots of them, were very careful about allowing those of us who had never tried it to try.
They sensibly insisted that if we wanted to try it at parties we stuck to soft drinks until late in the evening when the hash came out.
I could at that time never be bothered being at a party without a beer or two, so I never was completely sober when they started smoking.
I was also put off by my sister's first and only experience with it. She became so ill that her fiancé took her to the local casulty dept. and was quite honest about what they had been up to. But she had a rotten evening of it, although I seem to remember the staff nurse on duty sent them home after a few hours, saying that this once she wouldn't phone the police.
Yes, when I was younger and on a recent trip to Amsterdam. It’s great ?
I tried a normal cigarette with my friend and her brother in their shed when I was 11 ,I had 2 puffs and felt sick and hated all the smoke...it was a good lesson for me as I have never had the desire to smoke anything after that.
I have I waited till I was 36 to try it. I didn't feel any different and I hate the smell
Smoked a bit - well, more than a bit - in the seventies and early eighties. It didn't seem to have much of an effect on me and I never bought it myself; just had a puff or two on a shared joint to fit in.
I understand modern strains are much stronger and more vicious so I wouldn't wish to try them, but I might be up for retrying the stuff from my youth to see if it would help my various aches and pains. I don't smoke and haven't since 1989, so I would have to eat it instead; gluten free hash brownies?
Yes I have in the earlier years. Just zoned me out and I got the munchies. It wasn’t for me , so I didn’t do it again.
Nope. It stinks. It's destroying young peoples lives and anyone who thinks otherwise wants to do my job.
