I am doing my absolute best to personally thank every one who has supported our Merry Christmas cause. I think that we should also raise a glass of cheer to GNHQ. Agreed? CHEERS!

Marvellous news Mr and Mrs Soop. New Year, New Beginning. Fantastic.

maddyone Tue 21-Dec-21 11:08:58

Oh wow! I’m sooooo pleased to read that this morning the target has been reached. So, so happy. Good news indeed. A wonderful Christmas present for you dear soop.

I hate to make excuses BUT, due to you know what and all the thankyouing, I've neglected to welcome some new special people to Gransnet.

NannyJan58 Allegretto maddyone singingnutty mokryna I have many more to mention and whoever you are, remember that you are a special Gransnetter. I'm sure that things will more-or-less return to a sense of normality in the New Year. It will be good to get back on an even keel. Right now, I'm sure whether I'm coming, going or been there. grin Love to EVERY Gransnetter.
Pause for a wee and a brew.

mrshat Tue 21-Dec-21 16:53:54

Just wonderful soop - the news brought tears to my eyes! Onwards and upwards for you and mr. soop, of course. Fabulous! grin

muse Tue 21-Dec-21 17:42:36

I don't visit GN during the late late hours but after being engrossed with a Netflix series, I took at look the gofundpage and saw the figure change to £15,000 and posted a big hug for soop. I'll have a G+T in an hour and will raise my glass to Soop, MrSoop and all those who have donated?.

Welcome to all the newbies to the kitchen. Please visit again. To satisfy MrM's sweet tooth, I've just made some brownies. I leave some on the kitchen shelf and there's some Cornish Cream ice cream in the freezer.

Beautiful cards Yiayia4 and I have my fingers crossed ??for Thursday for you. Slowly but steadily for your DS.

Nannyjan. I started dropping into the kitchen earlier this year. It really doesn't matter how often you visit and don't worry about keeping up. Sometimes, I just read all the news. Sometimes I rattle on and then worry I might miss someone but I shouldn't do. There are no rules here. Wise words Doodle?

Good evening lovely Kitcheners. Yesterday was the last DPP Zoom meeting of 2021. I tried to post about it but it disappeared, so here it is again for anyone else looking at this program.

The topics this week were eating less and doing more. As a starting point we have all been encouraged to keep a food diary so we know exactly what we are eating. Then we can look at areas for improvement. It does involve calorie counting and we were shown a couple of apps – MyFitnessPal and NutriCheck – that can help with this. We talked about the nutritional value of various foodstuffs. The guidance on doing more wasn’t really very useful to me as it was mainly about walking and step counting. At one point a target of 5000 steps was mentioned, if I could do 50 steps without falling over I’d be ecstatic! grin Anyway I have my trusty exercise cycle, it tells me minutes spent cycling, speed, distance, heart rate and calories consumed. We restart on 10th January, so I have time to cut down on the Christmas goodies. Tomorrow Mr. B is going to buy me some Lidl butter stollen, it’s yummy and the DPP instructor need never know .., anyway I deserve a treat after today’s trip to the blood clinic.

Wonderful news about Soop’s fund, I hope this has helped to ease some worries and the Soop family can now relax and enjoy Christmas.

kittylester Tue 21-Dec-21 18:02:50

nanyjan ease come back. I can't keep up either but am interested in what everyone has to say.

mamaa Tue 21-Dec-21 18:03:19

Wonderful news for Soop, Mr Soop and all of us really as it has lifted all our spirits I think. I’ve got a g+t on the go ( anklebiter number 2 just gone home after a sleepover here, so it’s a reward although she was no trouble) and will ‘cheers’ to Soop and Mr S and all of the kitcheners cos it is lovely in here- so festive and welcoming. X

Blossoming Tue 21-Dec-21 18:06:53

NannyJan63 I can’t even keep up with what I’ve been doing! There is always a cosy corner of the kitchen available if you just want a safe warm place to bide. And cake, there is always cake smile

Nannytopsy Tue 21-Dec-21 18:10:46

What great news soop! There are bottles of champagne (yes, the real stuff!) on the side for everyone to raise a glass to GN!

dragonfly46 Tue 21-Dec-21 18:14:49

Nanyjan I only pop in periodically but I am always made to feel welcome.

Marydoll Tue 21-Dec-21 18:19:02

I've been in and out of the Kitchen, since Soop opened it, with the ethos of a non judgemental and safe haven.
I am another one who reads, but can't always keep up, but do feel welcome when I do pop in.

Pittcity Tue 21-Dec-21 18:30:38

I think newcomers will find most of the current kitchen inhabitants are a bit giddy. It's a combination of champagne, cake and being cock-a-hoop for Soop.
I'm usually sitting quietly in the corner with a cuppa but I might join in the celebration tonight ?

Urmstongran Tue 21-Dec-21 18:51:48

‘Evening All’

I’m streaming with a cold, sneezing and a headache. Just done a LFT which was -ve. I’ve also been up the road to the dentist this afternoon as I was awake at 3am with toothache. Anyway x-rays taken, no obvious teeth problems such as cracked tooth or leaking filling.

I was given a script for metronidazole for 5 days so no alcohol for me for a week. A dry Christmas it is then. That’ll be a first since I was about 17y old! Never mind I’d rather be pain free and see the NY in instead with some fizz.

We’ve done our duty of 4 days childminding. I don’t need to set an alarm for the morning ... hurrah!

Nannytopsy Tue 21-Dec-21 19:03:09

Well done on the childminding Urms! We didn’t set the alarm this morning and woke to the window cleaner at the bedroom window. ?

Jaxjacky Tue 21-Dec-21 19:11:36

Another one with no alarm tomorrow Urms MrJ has finished work for a while, hurray!
I’ve had a busy day; a drive, sorting an online delivery for my friend who’s post op, lady came to look at a vertical blind that’s not working properly, transferred some money for DD (I was looking after it for her), de-limescaled taps, bloomin hard water and breathed.
Shame we can’t bottle all the care and love for soop to spread far and wide.
This kitchen helped me so much during lockdowns, I’ll always be grateful.
I’m no baker, so Tesco finest mince pies on the side, enjoy! X

Marydoll Tue 21-Dec-21 19:29:35

No alarm, I envy you all!

Mr MDoll has informed me that he has set our alram for 5am tomorrow, as we will have to set out to the unfamiliar hospital in plenty time to park and be on time for my 8am appointment. ?
Kalu, since you know the hospital. you will be able to confirm how ridiculous this is!

Apparently, it's because I am so slow at getting ready!

Marydoll Tue 21-Dec-21 19:30:08

alarm!

Hellogirl1 Tue 21-Dec-21 20:18:44

I`m late arriving as usual, but absolutely delighted to see that Soop`s target has been reached, and so happy to have been able to play a small part. Hoping to hear news of the impending operation very soon. Lots of Love to the Soops xxx

brook2704 Tue 21-Dec-21 20:26:24

Aww hope you’re feeling better soon Urms and enjoy your rest tomorrow
I’ve had a really lovely day today with one of my friends out for a 3 course festive Christmas lunch at a local hotel. The food was delicious and the wine very good so we spent most of the afternoon there. Since coming in I’ve just flopped on the sofa and tried to stay awake, I think it’s the aftermath of having covid a few weeks ago that’s making me so tired. Either that or I’ve just graduated with honours from the school for #lazygrans
Well done Blossoming with your progress so far. In the past I’ve used the my fitness plan app to log food etc. I found it easy to use and quite helpful in counting calories and analysing nutritional values etc. I don’t use it currently but I probably should given by bad habits recently..
An early start tomorrow marydoll I hope you sleep well and all goes ok for you ?
Thanks for the mince pies Jax and I agree with you entirely about the kitchen

Grandmabatty Tue 21-Dec-21 20:42:33

Good grief marydoll. That's the middle of the night! Urms that's rotten luck for you.?
Booster and flu vaccinations done and I'm relaxing on the couch watching Jonathan Creek. I have also found my motivation which was hiding and wrapped nearly all the Christmas presents. My reward is to take mum shopping for Christmas presents ?. She's deaf but won't wear her hearing aids, she can barely walk but won't use a wheelchair. She'll demand a seat in Next although they don't have any and she'll want to grab my arms which have jabs in each. Oh dear. I will need a stiff drink. Until tomorrow kitcheners.
