Thank you Soop for greeting David again, he`ll be getting to know you quite well by now.
You are correct regarding the getting used to a stoma, oh the swearing when David first had his! Beware of reversals though. After 18 months he was considered suitable and fit enough to have the stoma reversed, but the resulting trauma and 8 week ICU stay made him wish he`d stuck with the stoma.
I`m way behind on here, so all the best to Marydoll and Muse, and anyone else who`s suffering.
Has anyone heard of Plantar Fasciitis? I`ve been suffering from agonising pain under my heels for weeks now, and apparently that`s what I`ve got, and the flipping Paracetermol prescribed goes nowhere near it!

Soop's welcoming kitchen for kind and caring folk...
(1001 Posts)Here we are again
Happy as can be (in the circumstances)
All GOOD friends and jolly GOOD company.
Welcome. The buffet is waiting. Our retreat is warm and cosy. There will always be a comforting virtual arm around the shoulder for those who need one.
Get well soon Urms.
My mother is another awkward one, will argue black’s white. She’s 94 and for the last six months has lived in a care home. I haven’t visited her much these last few weeks as they had a Covid break out and therefore a lockdown, and then a sickness and diarrhoea outbreak so locked down again. Anyway it’s open from tomorrow so I’ll tootle up there to see her for bit. She’ll have a long list of complaints for without any doubt
. Poor old mum, I think I don’t want to get to 94.
Mr M did his first shift as a volunteer at the vaccine centre today. It was strange getting up and he was gone, like being at work. I had to make my own morning coffee, I’m not used to doing that, he’s done it ever since we got married.
Poor Urms. ?
Awww hope you’re feeling much better soon Urms ?
You are so patient Grandmabatty, and must have a giggle later sometimes.
Good luck tomorrow muse I’d need sedation.
How debilitating Ena, some help will be very reassuring.
I’ve got some antibiotics from my dentist, I can drink in moderation (sorry Urms), begone niggly tooth.
We visited friends in Lyndhurst today, the New Forest looked so pretty with the frost and Tesco delivered 99% of our order, no last minute shops.
Have a lovely evening special people, three sleeps! ??
Oh grandmabatty your dear mum sounds just like my mum used to be! She ‘couldn’t possibly’ do anything for herself and expected me to run around after her all the time. You sound like you’re very patient though and caring
Hoping all goes well for you tomorrow muse. Love the picture of Mya
Sorry to hear you’re still in a lot of pain Ena and I hope the visit from the occupational therapist helps
I’ve had another busy but good day today, a splash around at the Aqua class at the gym with Christmas music playing then coffee and a mince pie at the local garden centre with DH. DD2 is still waiting for PCR test results for DGD as she’s got a bad cough but hopefully it’s not covid as the lateral flows were negative.
giein' it laldy, I haven't heard that expression in years! Reminds me of my mother!
Good evening lovely Kitcheners, I have pottered about today and seem not to have achieved much! I have done my physio exercises and cycling. I have installed the MyFitnessPal app and been trying out the features, it looks very useful Brook and seems intuitive so that’s what I will use.
Hope the scan results are good Muse and Marydoll.
Grandmabatty I have a memory of my elderly aunt standing in the middle of a very large M&S, shrieking “What’s this?” across the ladies underwear department to my sister and I, while waving a tiny thong in the air. We couldn’t speak for laughing. She died 3 years ago at the age of 102, giein’ it laldy to the end. We miss her terribly.
Its cold in Manchester today dh got the boiler going all right yesterday. The doctor made me go for an emergency xray because of the fall I had there is alot of pain around my hip and my finger. I had to wait for hours in the hospital this morning it was scary because I am CEV and people kept on getting close to me. He has arranged an occupational therapist to do an assessment to get me a wheelchair and a stairlift fitted. I can walk a bit but I get out of breath with my chest and the pain. He said someone could come and help me get dressed to save dh doing it. That would be good because dh isnt getting any younger his self. My dd helps but she works long hours and gets tired.
Its good that your fund went well soop you must be relieved you can get help. We should be thankful for what health we have and what help we can get. I am moaning a bit on here so that I can be brave when the family visit. I always say to them its being so cheerful that keeps me going. If they knew the half of it.

I do see the funny side Soop and Muse and Tillytrotter. Afterwards. Much afterwards ? I've just had a visit from a good friend and we chortled about mum. She knows her well. Steak and sausage casserole with mashed potatoes for tea. Then up early tomorrow to get to Tesco. The next three days will be hectic but it doesn't last long.
TillyTrotter No matter how many Granspals gather in the kitchen, like magic, it expands and the chairs seem to multiply AND the mince pies and mulled wine continue to satisfy our need to party.
Night night until the morrow.
Marydoll and muse Loving, healing vibes winging their way from Kintyre to both oy you.
GrandmaBatty Your shopping trips together with Mum are hilarious. You may not think so BUT, I'm certain that you also see the funny side when you reach home and go into a trance
Grandmabatty you - like BladeAnnie are Saints to care so much about your, shall we say ‘difficult at times’ , Mothers’.
Welcome to NannyJan and “Hi” ? to all the many lovely kitchen friends.
soop - Help! I think we need more chairs!! ?
Hello soop and all kitcheners.
I’m just back from my blood test and enjoying a Garibaldi biscuit and a coffee.
Lots of news from you soop. Thank you. I heard from school colleague a while back about colostomy.org support groups. I see there are 8 in Scotland. Perhaps there’s one near you?. I needed help with my dear mum so used to go to an Alzheimer’s group and chatting to other carers, with similar concerns, was so reassuring. ?for a date in 2022 asap.
Seeing your post Grandmabatty, and just now writing about my dear mum, brought back memories of trips out and shopping ones were the worst. She refused hearing aids and regularly lost her glasses. Said people stole them. I hope that cheese toastie helped to restore your spirits.
Mya will get an extra walk today but she will then be back in front of wood burner. She’s just started to do this. Normally she lies like that on the sofa and fills it.
My blood test results should be at the Royal Cornwall Hospital when I arrive tomorrow! They can do the standard MRI without a test but it’s needed for the second one because I’m injected with dye to show up blood flow. I’m quite used to it now and think this might be my last yearly check. They were every 6 months originally. The anxious time is when the neurologist rings me in about 3-4 weeks. Cornwall hospital doesn’t have a neurology department so I see one at the main Devon hospital. His call saves me a very long journey ?.
Very grey Cornish skies at the moment and I fear a shower will appear as soon as I walk out of the door with Mya ???
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Shopping accomplished. Mum threw stuff at me to carry as she limped from rail to rail. Then stopped dead causing a traffic jam behind her as she was quite oblivious. She refuses to get in lifts and had climbed the stairs in Next before I arrived, so was knackered at the start. Golden boy brother told me where she was and promptly buggered off home! She then sat down (thank goodness for the shoe department) and issued commands so I scurried back and forth. I contemplated curtsying but I decided that was a step too far. I waited in the queue for the checkout and then hoisted her up when it was time to pay. I thought she was going to have a tantrum when I insisted on getting the lift down, but she thought better of it. Then a repeat in the children's department, interspersed with, "what was that?"and "I can't hear you dear." I did all the interpreting. I thought about turning it into an interpretative dance but the shop was busy and the staff had suffered enough. Then I got the car, put the hazards on and parked outside the shop so she didn't have to walk. She couldn't have anyway. The queue of cars behind me were very gracious. Got her in the car and she said, "that was really easy wasn't it?" I'm off to sob into a cheese toasty for lunch.
Seriously, I am happy to help her do things. I smiled a lot, bossed her about even more, but I'm conscious she won't be around forever so lip was firmly bit. Enjoy your afternoon kitcheners.
Soop, it was the New Victoria Infirmary.
We drove round and round in the dark, avoiding the bus lanes, trying to find our way in. Mr MDoll was getting a bit stressed, as he was unfamiliar with the area!
Surprisingly, we managed to get a disabled space next to the door. Thankfully, as it is a brand new hospital, the equipment was the latest, so not unpleasant experience at all, compared to some scans I have had in the past.
The only problem was the power cut, everything went black!!
Cheers/Slainte! to mamaa
Urms A comforting (hug) and an armful of
. Bless you. After all the good you do, you do not deserve to be feeling so poorly. Relax!
Marydoll Darling girl, which hospital are you attending? Mr Soop always gets anxious about the different routes and parking facilities. It's a "man thing"
Let us know how you get on. That's if you wish to share.
GrandmaBatty You post make me chuckle. The so-called delights of shopping with a "difficult" Mum. Your account would make a very funny short story that would become a best seller.
Hellogirl We said a festive hello to David It's all very tranquil in bonnie Kintyre.
We are waiting for Ross Hall admin to name the exact cost of the surgery. Mr McCourtney, the surgeon that I trust and respect, mentioned the original sum of £25,000 when I was in hospital. It is admin who weigh up the pros and cons and costings that may be incurred because of my age and other factors. We may need to pay more BUT we shall manage and nothing can dampen my spirits now that we can see the light at the end of the long, dark tunnel. He did say that the surgery would take place in the first quarter of the new year. He is a very busy full-time surgeon and has a number of operations already booked in the new year. We will have to attend an appointment with him at Ross Hall in January. He will explain the risks involved. We are well aware that, at eighty, it won't be a "doddle". Also, the learning to live with a stoma takes practice and patience. We are both prepared for a bit of a trying time. BUT, the present situation is robbing me of many simple pleasures and I am tired of struggling with the indignities and ongoing discomforts of what has become "a big prolapse". Health is wealth. So very true.
I shall continue to keep my Gransnetter friends updated. It is, after all, thanks in part to their magnificent support that we have reached this happy place.
They sound yummy NannyJan possibly even better than my husband’s home made mince pies, which I can’t resist.
Thank you soop, shortbread is my favourite biscuit! Thank you to everyone for making me welcome.
I have popped in with homemade mince pies, made with homemade mincemeat with Brandy!
NannyJan That makes two of us who can't keep up. Join me in the quiet corner. I've delicious buttery shortbreads to share. In fact, why don't we all feast on them?
I've been assured that they are NOT calorie -free BUT they can be virtually so for the festive season.
Good Luck Marydoll . Your warm bed awaits you at the end of this long day. X.
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow Marydoll.
Wonderful news that Soop can now have the treatment she needs. Well done grans.
Sorry just a quick visit to wish Marydoll good luck tomorrow.
5 am is nighttime ?
Urms waving from a distance ? Hope you feel better soon.
Still smiling over soop’s fund. Great news.
