Where I live in Northumberland we have holiday cottages in the same street, among the homes of permanent residents. Just recently a family home four houses up from me was bought as a holiday home by people from Birmingham.
I've just looked o that site JaneJudge, and I see what you mean. Most of the cottages within a 2 hr drive of me are actually within a ten minute walk.

I know eazybee and I agree with you. my friend lives in a street where she is the ONLY house that is lived in and not a holiday home. 20 years ago some were holiday cottages but not enough to have such a detrimental effect on the permanent residents.

I am envious of the cottages they present and their beautiful if unrealistic decor, but I am furious that these cottages are empty for at least two thirds of the year when they should be family homes.
Other local villages which do not have quaint properties are being turned into dormitory towns by the developers to accommodate the very real need for housing.

Blossoming

I asked trip advisor to suggest days out near my home, and it suggested the marina where I live. Granted, it’s a nice place, loads to see and do, but it’s not a day out ?

grin

The barn on Mersea Island sounds nice smile do you have a link?

It is nice where I live and there are a couple of quite popular places visit very near but it was a surprise to see a holiday cottage here tbh. The price per week was more than my rent for the month shock so I couldn't even suggest to relatives who want to visit. They'll have to slum it at the village pub rooms instead smile

I suppose it all depends on where you live (and lucky you to live somewhere so obviously desirable!)

We've had several within a couple of hours' drive from home and they've been great. Best one was on Mersea Island, a converted open-plan barn with the various areas leading into each other although the downside was a bit of a trek to the bathroom from the bedroom part which was at the opposite end.

And we have a seaside apartment booked for June 2022 which will take us less than two hours to reach, so looking forward to that.

DO they THINK I am?

JaneJudge Sun 12-Dec-21 15:16:02

Has anyone else had one? grin

The first suggestion they gave me was a cottage in MY OWN VILLAGE

Hoe fed up of my own house and my own family do they I am? grin
