I was in work this morning when I suddenly thought calceolaria! I asked a colleague if she had heard of it-no, but another lady
said she thought it was a flower. It is, and I can now spell it as well. I’m not a gardener, so where did that come from?

Ooh I like that one Auntie Flo

Auntieflo Thu 23-Dec-21 11:28:27

Susurration.
The word seems as lovely as the sound it describes.

I like Rumbledethumps; it's a sort of potato/swede/cabbagey thing (lots of different recipes on-line).

And Sweetheart, as said by my DH.

Flocon ❤️ I first saw that word on a packet of French instant mash. Not quite so romantic as flocon de neige.

Baggs Thu 23-Dec-21 10:22:35

flocon – crump. Like it! Keeping that one.

Baggs Thu 23-Dec-21 10:21:14

Salanakaffar.

No idea what it means or even if it means anything. It's like an outblowing of breath for me.

Flocon arrives in my head a lot at this time of year. French for snowflake. Non que je sois flocon de neige mois même but I think it just sounds like the crump of fresh snow.

Prong. For some reason prong fascinates me.
And I have a peculiarity which makes me compelled to spell long words in my head. All the time. It drives me mad.

Grandmagrim I like that word sesquidipalian.
It reminds me of a teacher who used to say,
Never one word where two will do, with time to fill then use a few. When we had to speak for 2 minutes on a given subject.

Sesquipedalian

Fiddledydidlebugs. My late husband's version of an expletive. smile

Kakapo has brought a smile to my face - remembering Stephen Fry’s encounter with one.

Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious ( even just the sound of it is really quite atrocious)

Calistemon

We were doing the crossword this morning with our coffee and for some reason the word pescatarian popped into my head. It wasn't the answer to any of the clues. I have no idea where it came from. I'm not vegetarian. We weren't talking about fish. But after that I couldn't think of a single answer to any clue - all my words were hidden behind 'pescatarian' ?

As soon as I read the word fish this popped into my mind: Dinbych-y-pysgod

Discombobulated

Writing rude words in Welsh is very unkind of you Calistemon ?

GagaJo Fri 17-Dec-21 17:49:06

Crepuscular.

I love it!

Kim19 Fri 17-Dec-21 17:49:00

Serendipity is my very favourite word ever. Doesn't pop into my head often until an actual happy accident takes p!ace. Wonderful on both counts.

Calistemon Fri 17-Dec-21 17:44:26

Marydoll

serendipity has been popping in and out of my head recently. Absolutely, no idea why!

Mine too, I love that word.
However, I'm more inclined to discombobulation lately!

Kakapo is another one

Antidisestablishmentarianism. My siblings and I found this word hilarious as children, no idea why! It still just pops into my head from time to time.

My DG loved ‘ sarcophagus’ and now I have remembered that I’ll be stuck with it for a while.

I often see an unusual word or name and think, 'that's an unusual word/name I have seen for ages/heard before'.

Lo and behold I see the exact same word with a day or so.

There is some scientific reason for this but I don't know what it is confused

M0nica Fri 17-Dec-21 16:23:27

'ineluctable'
