Scam warning

This morning my husband got an email from Yodel, to say his parcel was on the way. We haven't ordered anything, and only about 6 people know his email. Being Christmas we assumed one of the family was sending a present.
Then an email timed 13.05 to say the parcel had been left with a neighbour and a card put through our door (it hadn't). At that time we were sitting in our dining room at the front of the house with a clear view of our small cul-de-sac. No parcel vans came down.
Having looked on Google, it appears this is a scam. If you click on the supposed delivery number in the email, you are taken to a site which asks for your phone number and bank details, followed by a phone call supposedly from your bank, asking you to transfer funds.
We didn't of course, but it would be so easy to fall for this at Christmas when lots of parcels are being sent.
Just a warning.

Thank you

Yup, I had a similar one, but was warned in advance, and knew I had not ordered anything, so a parcel was unlikely to be being held until I paid the missing postage!

Thanks for the warning.

This scam has been going for a while now but it's easier for the scammers at this time of year. Rip Off Britain highlighted this some months ago. Not only do they kindly empty your bank account but many people also found sizeable personal loans had been taken out against their details. There are some lovely people out there. angry

Reminder appreciated! I got caught up in something similar last year but, thankfully Fanny C put me right and it was quickly sorted.

... and "GEEK SQUAD" are sending out scam mails claiming your annual subscription with them (whoever they are, I haven't a clue) has been renewed.

There is usually a link to a 'phone number - don't be tempted to call or follow any link as it could contain malware which would enable them to empty your bank account, or steal your identity.

The operate mostly out of China, Nigeria and Russia.

I never use the word "scum" to describe anyone, but in these cases I will make an exception.

I wish there was some legal way these individuals could be tracked, arrested and prosecuted... not with a fine, but with a long stretch in prison.

I believe geek squad is a technical support service that you can take out when you buy a computer with Currys. I may be wrong though.
