I used to, long gone, work on xmas eve and on one occasion when having finished work together with workmates went to a nearby wine bar after sending a message to DH 'expect me when you see me'. Needless to say by the time I arrived home was not in a fit state to cook our evening meal, so started on the cold cuts I was keeping for my usual xmas day buffet. Miss those days.
Today it will be a bowl of soup, don't finish work until 5pm, up to daughter's to drop some things off that she needed and that I got at the supermarket on my way into work at 8am. Unfortunately she tested positive for Covid on Wednesday so Christmas plans have changed. I was due to go there this evening whilst she was working and stay overnight.
Red cabbage, lovely. Freezes so well, and thanks, it’s reminded me to get some out of the freezer for my dd. Think we have jacket pots tonight. What’s not to like?
Every year, not this one, we have a gammon joint, braised red cabbage and baked potatoes, with mince pies with custard for pudding. This year, we’re at our veggie DD and family, so goodness knows!
Every Christmas Eve, we have a carpet picnic. It includes all the usual nibbles with a bottle of something fizzy and we watch some fluffy stuff in TV . It’s bliss
When my children were little we always had a simple tea - toasted tea cakes and crumpets, followed by mince pies and Yule log. We went to the children Carol service in the church first too - so a lovely start to Christmas. Now it’s just two of us we’ll have something simple but cooked. Think it’s gammon and jacket potatoes tonight. My husband likes to do all the cooking at Christmas, so I’ll be reading or watching tv!
First time in 30+ years I am not cooking tomorrow - yay !! Will be the first time DS has taken over, he popped around this morning to borrow serving dishes etc. and to go through his menu. Enough to feed the 5000 ! In light of that DH and I have decided a BLT will be fine !
