I’m with eazybee, we usually put ours up Christmas Eve (admit a few days earlier this year) and take them down on twelfth night. Superstitious? Moi?

I never know if they should come down o the 5th or 6th January

The 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men. It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three Kings’ Day).

I did put them up before the 25th December but have never understood why people put up decorations in November.
It's annoying that shops start Christmas in October too.

The coming few days will see me making gift tags from the cards and taking down the decorations. I leave the tree till last.

Ours didn't go up until the week before Christmas

Mine came down on 27th too. They went up on 2nd so I was happy to put them away.

Mine came down on 27th after the family came on Boxing Day.

I love the feeling that I haven't got to do it again for a whole year!

Twelfth Night.
If people didn't put their decorations up at the beginning of December, they wouldn't look sad and forlorn now.
But I will be glad to see the back of the flashing neon lights outside houses.

On the 12th night out of habit really I love the house decorated. But back to reality I suppose I hate January and February just look forward to the spring.

Taken mine down today, as away for new year. Nice to come home to a fresh start.

We have a DGC coming to stay so not until at least the 3rd January.

Calendargirl Wed 29-Dec-21 11:05:08

We shall take ours down on Friday. Always want to see them gone before the New Year.

I know 6th January is traditional, but Christmas is long over by then. They just look sad and forlorn after the event.

We always take ours down on New Year's day.

Septimia Wed 29-Dec-21 11:03:22

I usually leave it until 12th night or just before.

I was thinking about taking the whole lot down today. Once Boxing Day is out of the way, Christmas is over really. The spectre at the feast!

I am thinking of taking the Christmas cards down and putting away the festive ornaments today but leaving just the tree up til New Years Day. It’ll need to be down then as we’re having our ‘Imp’ from 2nd to the 5th Jan while Daddy takes Mummy away for a break!
I’ll need a lie down in a darkened room for at least a week afterwards, but won’t get one!
The decs are just annoying me now- anyone else de-Christmas before 12th night?
