I'm not disabled but have a friend who is 90% wheelchair bound and her and her H have done several cruises.

They always make known their requirements at the time of booking, and she has a folding light weight wheel chair. I know they have really enjoyed the experience, being able to do and see far more than they would have otherwise been able too.

Hope this helps.

Cruising is an ideal way to see the world. Wouldn’t be booking now though (but that’s Covid) .

I have sen many people in wheelchairs on Saga cruises. They always seem to be well catered for.

Yes, I be seen many people in wheelchairs or with other disabilities. Cruise lines and crews look after them well.
Wouldn’t be going at the moment or for a while yet though.

Without knowing the disability it is hard to say.

Of course I would providing I had people with me willing to help and the cruise line was aware of my requirements. As another said, not knowing what the disability is or the severity of it makes it hard to give a proper answer.

That is very true Elizabeth because I am disabled. My bones are SO porous now they can break at the least wrong move.
I have broken both hips. My left hip never healed properly after breaking it in three places so now my left leg is four inches shorter than my right.
I spent another month in hospital this year with a fractured coccyx after trying to pick my recliner control off the floor where it had fell. I had already broken three verterbra in 2019 and was in hospital all over Christmas that year.

I would not even consider going on a cruise.

We have done a number of cruises. There are many disabled people on board and they are well provided for. Under ordinary circumstances I would say a cruise is a great idea for disabled people. However , at the moment I think it very unwise for anyone to cruise just now. We most certainly will not be on board during the pandemic!

Hope that you're recovered now Maywalk?
There used to be a poster on GN that enjoyed cruises and she was in a wheelchair ( Galen?) I seem to remember that there were no real problems for her.

Thank you everyone, thank you Lemongrove .

As far as I am aware cruise lines insist that the disabled person has someone with them to assist them, whether that would be a carer, relative or friend, but of course it all depends on the level of disability. If someone can manage perfectly well at home on their own, including getting out and about I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t have a cruise on their own if that’s what they wanted.

As far as cruises as a holiday choice for disabled folk, from what I’ve seen, they are brilliant. Virtually a new port every day so the scenery is constantly changing. There is always someone to chat to.
All ships have extra large cabins for disabled people, and I would always recommend one with a balcony for the private outdoor space.
There’s nothing nicer than waking up in the morning, pulling the curtains and watching the ship come into a new port waiting to be explored.

As others have said we have seen and chatted with lots of people on cruises in wheelchairs and they all seem to be having the time of their lives.
