I do but I skip a lot of them. Those vacuous girls pouting at the camera do my head in.

I don't do TikTok and would steer clear if I were you. They have been condemned over and over for their lack of security and data collection and spyware - they apparently can even see texts that aren't sent, so if you write something and then decide not to send it for any reason they still have it.

www.makeuseof.com/is-tiktok-bad/ explains some of the controvery around TikTok for anyone who's interested

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 14:23:03

What do you mean?

I don't understand it at all so haven't engaged at all with it but saw the duck girl on tik tok on Jeremy Vine this morning - which is unusual as I don't normally watch it. I still don't understand what it is grin

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 14:23:48

x posts, thats very alarming!

GagaJo Fri 07-Jan-22 14:28:18

You don't have to log in or sign up to watch videos.

Tiktok is hugely addictive. I was dubious about it at first but now I can spend large chunks of times, laughing, crying, singing along at the snippets posted.

I've become very fond of a West Highland White, Jack, who lives with a lovely young lady, another dog and a blind fox. They go for walks every day and it's lovely to see how they get on

There's some very sad clips as well.

My name is Zoe and I'm a Tiktok addict

EllanVannin Fri 07-Jan-22 14:34:31

It's mainly a platform for the wannabes. Sad people. Such as Gagajo pointed out.

Kim19 Fri 07-Jan-22 17:03:43

Don't even know how to access it or how it works

Blossoming Fri 07-Jan-22 17:12:59

I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.

GagaJo

You don't have to log in or sign up to watch videos.

You're right Gagajo and so long as you don't log in the security aspects disappear (as far as I know, anyway).

Watching videos on TikTok can't be any different to watching YouTube can it?

MissAdventure Fri 07-Jan-22 17:25:18

I watch youtube a lot, but lately tiktok videos have appeared in there.
They are repulsive.

What are you watching on TikTok that's disgusting?

I"ve yet to find anything I'd deem disgusting

There's a fabulous young girl; with her Armenian grandmother who post most days. Grandma is 93 and a total star. They've also done a few films about Gran's life from Armenia to USA. Interesting lady. All lovely and harmless.

Zoejory Fri 07-Jan-22 17:31:54

Sorry, repulsive, not disgusting!

GagaJo Fri 07-Jan-22 17:38:20

Me neither. Maybe it depends on your search history.

MissAdventure Fri 07-Jan-22 17:42:41

My search history never has and never will include young, barely dressed women, or dressing animals up and tormenting them for entertainment.

Sara1954 Fri 07-Jan-22 18:06:48

My grandchildren are all addicted, but all of their accounts are private.
Some things are certainly pretty repulsive, not everything, some things are funny, others sad. Not for me, but I’ve been left behind by social media years ago.

You don’t need to be logged in to or signed up to a site for it to harvest data from your device .

AreWeThereYet Fri 07-Jan-22 18:33:32

Thank you Blossoming

Zoejory Fri 07-Jan-22 18:34:53

I think that many companies harvest data from anything and everything on smart phones and laptops/notebooks

To avoid this it's best not to have any sort of gadget that links to wifi.
