I agree
The main room in your house...
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
Labour Brings in excellent Renter's Rights - long overdue.
We’ve all had our say about whether he should go or not.
Why not turn this on its head and say who you would like instead of BJ, and why you think they would be good?
First someone from the Tory party because they’re still in. You may struggle to think of anyone, but give it a go.
Then who you’d like from any party or the party you vote for and why.
I’d vote for Andy Burnham. I know he’s only the Mayor of Greater Manchester now, but I think he’s really developed throughout Covid and he listens to the people.
I agree
I like Agnela I think she actually believes what she says rather than just says what she thinks we want to hear or just to be annoying. I think her and Starmer would be good together as they have a different approach to communicating.
Rory Stewart. He seems honest, decent and principled.
Rishi did brilliantly with the Covid Crisis but seems to regard older people as having no worth, so I would be shooting myself in the foot if I voted for him. However, there is a good chance that we will freeze to death before very long with fuel prices getting completely out of hand. I never in my life expected to be sitting at my computer with all of the window blinds down at this time of day with part of the room curtained off to keep what heat there is concentrated on the middle part of the room.
Ah, now we know where Johnson is hiding.......he is on GN, masquerading as Lauranorder.
. Your forgot to mention the 'illegal immigrants being put up in 4 star hotels' and maybe a quick rant about 'hard working pensioners being threatened with prison over their BBC tv licence'. Best laugh I have had all morning
Oh, and don't forget Starmer having a beer while at work.........
It has to be a sitting Tory MP so Burnham is out as is Rory Stuart, Ed Balls, David Milliband, etc. We are faced with a very poor generation of Tory and Labour politicians in the Commons and of course it's not our choice. As the party in power the Tories have to choose according to their rules. If BJ won a vote of confidence (as did John Major) he would be safe for 12 months. If not, he goes and the choice is mainly between Truss and Sunak - either are likely to find favour with the Tory grassroots - as likely vote winners. All others are also rans in my opinion. If it were for me to choose I would choose Jeremy Hunt as the most competent and experienced (and he came 2nd last time).
As a fully paid up member of the Conservative party I voted for Boris Johnson in the last leadership election and would do so again.
Blimey
As a fully paid up member of the Conservative party I voted for Boris Johnson in the last leadership election and would do so again.
I am not interested in his private life which does indeed sound chaotic at best.
I voted for him because he is optimistic, ambitious and unafraid.
I believe that his ambition to go down in history as a great prime minister would have led him to follow his manifesto commitment of levelling up, of spending hugely on infrastructure, of tackling crime and drug crime in particular and controlling immigration.
Sadly two things put the kybosh on this, firstly the pandemic which threw the world in to total chaos. Our country more than most due to our huge population contained on our small island and us being a travel hub.
Secondly our media who seem to have more hatred for Boris Johnson than any previous leader. He has been hounded by the press from day one. An argument in a previous flat made weeks of headlines insinuating that domestic violence had occurred and yet that same couple are now married with two children. The decoration of the Downing Street flat blown out of all proportion. The incumbent is likely to be there for five years so redecorating to their taste should not be an issue and if a party donor is willing to fork out for it I don’t see a problem.
Now we have huge and malevolent coverage of the ‘parties’. Downing St is a block of offices employing large numbers of civil servants and other staff. Many were working when others were furloughed or working from home. A debrief on a Friday is not unusual for many companies. Often a glass of wine and a few nibbles. During lockdown it is possible that the debrief could be held outdoors to take advantage of sunny weather, social distanced and an opportunity for the PM to say thank you to staff who risked coming in to work. Other parties seem to have been arranged by civil servants while the PM was at Chequers. Cats away, mice will play.
I’m not saying any of this is the case but these scenarios are possible, so instead of the media hyping up as wrong doing why not wait until after the investigation.
To change PM now would be destabilising. We have the threat of Russia and China working to this end but neither need to bother while our own media are doing the job for them.
I’m not going duck behind a parapet as Tories are expected to do on gransnet but will sit back and enjoy.
You are joking, Andy Burnham is absolutely useless, and has very dubious business dealings, I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him, odious man
Sorry this is off topic but I can't let this go. Sturgeon and free sanitary stuff:
MSPs unanimously approved the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill on Tuesday.
There is now a legal duty on local authorities to ensure that free items such as tampons and sanitary pads are available to "anyone who needs them".
The bill was introduced by Labour MSP Monica Lennon. She has been campaigning to end period poverty since 2016.

What a terrible country we live in. All these people agreeing with each other, its awful.
Sorry, back to the topic.

Angela Rayner might be gobby but isn’t, as far as I know a liar or self serving and corrupt
I always think she looks like she’s escaped the set of ‘ Eastenders’.
Do a deal with the SNP and get the leaders to attend a course run by Nicola Sturgeon. She’s bright, brave, logical, energetic, knowledgeable and genuinely looks for the desired outcome. She’s dynamic and a born leader. She doesn’t hide in fridges or bring shame to the leadership. No one’s ever in any doubt what she means as she is blunt, caring and obs a leader. Ok take a short cut and just have her as PM. If that’s too much then consider the other dynamic Scot - Ruth Davidson
A safe, steady and thoughtful pair of hands might be Jeremy Hunt. He seems to have integrity but what do I know?!

You must be thinking about a different Nicola Sturgeon from the one I know. The one I know has suppressed information regarding Covid numbers, care home deaths and even outbreaks. It's horrendous what she's brought Scotland too with her dictatorial approach. Don't get me started - I could go on!
Absolutely agree. We in scotland are being led by a woman and her party who are becoming more and more totalitarian and fascist in their approach to govern the Scottish people. It is horrendous. They have lied, covered up misdemeanours and cannot be trusted. She rules with an iron fist and continually adopts outrageous, extortionate decisions which costs the Scottish taxpayer a fortune eg baby boxes for every newborn, free bus passes now for every child under 21, free sanitary stuff yet we have bloody awful main roads full of potholes resulting in damage to our cars, local councils who are so strapped for cash, a failing state education system and NHS staff leaving in droves as they feel completely and utterly exhausted and unappreciated. I will never vote for that wee Hitler and her inept party
That's nice dear.
Godwin's law. You lose.
I'm sure people who really lived under totalitarian and fascist governments have a lot of sympathy for you.
Completey with you on Andy Burnham

Liz Truss because she is so useless she would guarantee a loss at the next election. I really can’t bear the thought of this lot getting in again.
Am a Lib Dem so will go for a Lib Dem/lab coalition (did not support the previous one!) with Starmer. But I’d be happy with Starmer. He’s not the most exciting but he is seriously clever & a decent man. Could do with someone decent after this shower.
The more I think about it the more I agree with the Tory voters on the radio this morning who all, without exception said that the whole lot are tainted by association and the Tories need a total clear out.
None of them in the cabinet should be the next leader.
Hmmm . My cat could do better than the lot of them.
OK, so, wasted opportunities - David Miliband, shouldn't have given way to Ed.
Given that we are so short of political talent let's try Hugh Grant! Listen to him talking politics - he's a wasted resource!
FannyCornforth, you should know that Labour has the same trans women-are-not-women policy as the LIbdems and Greens.
The only party to allow biological women the status and rights to be women is that of the Conservatives.

Angela Rayner Miss Gobby no chance.
I’d rather have gobby than a morally bankrupt liar and I wouldn’t bet against Labour at the next election. They’re ahead in the polls atm and the longer this sleazy Tory s***show goes on the more ground they will gain.
??Johnson isn’t the brightest spark is he?

Can’t think of a single Tory. I’ve heard Michael Gove’s name mentioned as a favourite candidate, but the thought isn’t exactly enthralling. For labour - Angela Rayner. She comes across as fearless and I think she has more of a fire in her belly than Keir Starmer.
She also comes across as being incredibly ignorant.
Can you give me an example of something she’s said that’s ignorant? Or is it because she doesn’t have an Oxbridge accent?
I’d like to know that too. Whenever I’ve seen her interviewed on various issues she always comes across as well researched. She’s direct, and she doesn’t sidestep awkward questions. She can also handle herself at the ballot box. If we’re talking about ignorance how about the ignorance of the crew at number 10 partying on into the night in complete ignorance of the massive disrespect they were showing to the NHS and frontline services, and all those who were unable to be with their loved ones as they were dying.
