Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

Some believe Charles said he wanted to be a tampax

CarlyD7 Mon 24-Jan-22 13:21:10

Re the Tampax saga - anyone who listened to that only has themselves to blame. It was either a private conversation (in which case no-one else should have been listening to it) or it was people pretending to be them (in which case you were "had"). How would we all feel about private conversations with our intimate partners of the past being put on a chat line?? It was either hoax or a horribly cruel thing to do, and needs to be consigned to the dustbin where it belongs, and never brought up again.

I don't think it matters to me. I can't get worked up about trivia given all the really important things happening in the UK and world.

CarlyD7 Mon 24-Jan-22 13:18:10

Personally I would be fine with her being Queen Camilla but I'm not part of the Diana fanclub (I think she was damaged by her own birth family - especially her mother leaving so early in her life - long before she joined the Windsors). Charles was damaged by his bully of a father and a distant mother, and was stopped from marrying the woman he loved. He did his "duty" and married to produce heirs. I don't blame him at all for wanting to spend his life with someone he truly loves. Camilla will be a pillar of strength for him and he will need her support when he becomes King (I'm sure she has been already in all the upset that Harry has caused). So many people point fingers at Charles and Camilla - you would think they had never made mistakes themselves!! I wish people would stop judging and just get on with their own lives.

What was offensive about the tampax comment ?

Her past behaviour was deplorable. As was her husband’s. They still make me cringe. I can never unhear the Tampax remark. But she will be queen because she’s married to the King. I’m not a fan, but I hope I’m realistic. Sauce for the goose.

me neither re the 'Tampax' word. free advertising for the company... and 'washed down the lavatory'

he will not be King as far as I'm concerned never mind about her.

I don’t know.
I thought that I did, but I don’t.
Perhaps Penny Junor, Ingrid Steward or even Norman St John Stevas will be along shortly

Yammy Camilla can’t be ‘just’ Queen in the same way that Phillip wasn’t King.
She won’t be the monarch.

I think that we are all aware of the awful things that are happening in the world

Well the last Queen Elizabeth, wife of King George VI was called Queen, and so were they all before her so why NOT Queen Camilla?

grandtanteJE65 Mon 24-Jan-22 12:34:01

I can see no justification for her not being given the title of Queen if she and Prince Charles are still married if or when he becomes King.

Kings in many countries have had more than one legal wife in the past and all were called Queen, irrespective of whether they were their husband's first wife or not, or had themselves been married before - Edward IV married a widow and no-one thought it odd that she was called Queen Elizabeth and all six wives of Henry VIII were called queen. James V of Scotland married a widow, Mary of Guise, too.

A woman has traditionally been held to take her husband's rank automatically upon a legal marriage being performed.

Anniebach Mon 24-Jan-22 12:33:19

There has never been any proof that Charles was in an affair with Camilla when he married

I agree with Kate

I'm another one who thinks Diana was treated appallingly. When people say she was difficult, had mental health problems, was neurotic, so would I be if I realised my husband was in love with someone else when he married me.

Diana was a young woman who should have received support and help and friendship. She married a man in love with another woman who was a married woman. It appers that he did not end the relationship.

This behaviour is unacceptable when you are in the public domain as the representative of a nation and the common wealth etc.

There were faults all round in the sorry saga of Charles/Diana/Camilla but Camilla bore the brunt of the criticism. I think she has behaved with dignity since her marriage and carried out her role very well. Time for us all to move on.

The fact she will NOT become Princess of Wales is more than enough.

She is actually The Princess of Wales but has chosen not to use the title. She will also be Queen when Charles is King and will be addressed as Your Magesty same as the Queen Mother, Queen Mary and so on were before her.

hopstone Mon 24-Jan-22 12:17:31

When the Queen dies, that will be the start of end of our royal family as we know it. I don’t think Charles will be as popular and have the same respect as what the Queen has, therefore don’t think people will be bothered what title Camilla takes on.

The Queen Mother was always referred to as Queen Elizabeth before the king died. When together they were called the King and Queen. She was never called Queen Consort. Prince Philip could not have the title of King because as a man he would then have outranked his wife, the reigning monarch,

Re Camilla’s hair style: I read that Prince Charles insists on that style!

I’d heard that too.
I think that she has fab hair and it suits her face shape

If you don’t care ‘about this stuff’ why do you want to be - enlightened?

Because I still want to understand.

Madmother21 Mon 24-Jan-22 11:36:28

Camilla and Charles have very carefully cultivated her image with the population. I read about this years ago, they knew it would take years for the public to change its perception of her. But the oldies of us may never change our thoughts, whereas the younger generation, who weren’t around, really don’t care much.

Alegrias1 Mon 24-Jan-22 11:35:08

What do you think might happen Fernhillnana? Insurrection on the streets?

A republican coup? Now that would be worth it....

Fernhillnana Mon 24-Jan-22 11:33:32

I didn’t think the British public would ever accept that woman as queen. But clearly I’m wrong.
