Been discussed before, I know, but in the DT today, it seems that support for this to be the Duchess of Cornwall’s title in the fullness of time is ever more likely.

I, for one, would be pleased to see this happen. Princess Consort would be a silly title for the wife of the King.

I have never thought Charles will allow his beloved wife to hold an inferior title.

So her fiancé’s staff member tells her Charles had ordered a
bracelet, then tells her not to look but she does . She didn’t
mention the cuff links in that interview.

I personally believe she should be Queen after all she will be married to the king. I think they have a beautiful love story. and have come along way together

Calendargirl Sun 23-Jan-22 13:48:24

Times have changed a lot in the last 70 years. Back then, even if they had been here, the Queen probably wouldn’t have seen that much of her children. They would have had nannies looking after them, as would most of the aristocracy. She was in Malta from 1949-1951 I believe, and would have returned for the birth of Princess Anne in August 1950. Probably back here for quite a while before and after the birth.

Don’t suppose the QM was much involved with the nitty-gritty of child rearing either, the dirty nappies, sleepless nights, washing, ironing, spoon feeding, ….. just the nicer, more photogenic bits, i.e. supervising bathtime, reading a bedtime story, strolling in Windsor Great Park pushing the pram, ( with nanny hovering nearby).

I must say I was surprised when I learned that Elizabeth and Phillip’s long stay in Malta didn’t include their young children. Press coverage shows them having a jolly good time. Meanwhile, not a word of criticism about the lack of parenting skills. Perhaps the Queen has put a foot wrong after all.

No !! Pass me my pearls and the smelling salts.

Mollygo I never had a 2 year holiday, never known anyone who has

I’m just emailing my children to apologise for being cold hearted and selfish by leaving them with their grandmother when they were little, so DH and I could have a holiday. I wonder what they think about it.
I bet no one else on GN ever did that.
I wonder

A holiday ..different to two years !

Anniebach Sun 23-Jan-22 13:14:12

History will be repeated. George 5 was king but the people adored Edward Prince of Wales He abdicated , George 6 wasn’t
welcomed , then came Elizabeth and Margaret.

Charles ,when king , we will have William perhaps Prince of Wales and the people will be won over again.

With their behaviour they are abolishing themselves!!!

Kate1949 Sun 23-Jan-22 12:26:01

Yes it is Rosina.

Buttonjugs Sun 23-Jan-22 12:23:24

My opinion is that the Queen has been a great monarch, always taken her role seriously to the detriment of her own personal feelings. I don’t feel Charles will command anywhere near the same respect. I think after the Queen dies, regardless of what role Camilla is given, the Royal Family will eventually be abolished.

The Queen and Philip buggered off to Malta leaving him with his grandmother.

They must have left Anne too. I only realised they went to Malta without their children quite recently. How cold hearted that was, and selfish. It is often said it was their only normal time as a married couple before Elizabeth became Queen. Well leaving two tiny children for two years is not normal in my opinion, it’s cold hearted.

MissAdventure Sun 23-Jan-22 12:08:23

The royals will so as they've always done, which is exactly what they want.
No input needed from the public.

maddyone Sun 23-Jan-22 12:05:07

If we have a monarchy, which we do, I think Camilla should be crowned Queen, when the time comes.

Rosina Sun 23-Jan-22 12:03:23

Kate isn't this often half the problem - and why I'm very glad that my ancestors were not warlike enough to claim the throne and be sitting on it today. We do only know what we read in the often distorted, headline grabbing press. Princess Anne was depicted as rude, uncooperative etc. for years because she told reporters to 'naff off'; now she is regarded as Saint Anne for the amount of work she does. Edward didn't have the kindest coverage in his youth but now seems to be treated a little better. Stories of arrogance often come from ex staff members - who knows if they left willingly, or were sacked and want to lash out - or get fat fee for their revelations? All smoke and mirrors, isn't it?

Calendergirl yes, a little boy age 4 becomes heir to the throne, a sensitive little boy with a grandmother who had to leave centre stage , no longer had control over her elder daughter . Charles had a tutor until he was 8

Yes, ditto for Diana whose mother left when she was aged 6 and she mothered her 4 year old brother when they cried themselves to sleep at night.

AmberSpyglass Sun 23-Jan-22 11:48:52

They’re all just flawed humans with immense amounts of privilege. Nothing wrong with having flaws but it shows they should never be elevated above the rest of us in the way they are.

The Queen Mother was a "steel magnolia" - seemingly kind and motherly on the outside, but hard and unforgiving on the inside, as shown by her lifelong anger and bitterness against Edward and Wallis.

I agree with what you say about her Calendargirl

Calendargirl Sun 23-Jan-22 11:11:02

Lucca no, not St. Charles , but to have the grandmother he had he certainly has my sympathy.

Watched the programme about the Queen Mother last night. I know she and Charles were extremely close. Apparently although she obviously loved him dearly, it was one way in which she could still retain a great deal of influence over the monarchy. She was aware of his sensitive and shy nature, very similar to her late husband, and she tended to indulge him, whereas the DofE and the Queen wanted to ‘toughen him up’ a bit, in readiness for what the future held for him.

No wonder Charles was a troubled little boy.

wicklowwinnie Sun 23-Jan-22 11:08:26

When our present Queen is no longer with us that will be the last of royalty as we know it.
They have destroyed the whole concept with their behaviour.
There is so much hypocrisy now.

Kate1949 Sun 23-Jan-22 11:07:38

Diana's affairs

Kate1949 Sun 23-Jan-22 11:07:05

Annie I don't find Diana's acceptable. However, I do find them understandable. Someone I know was in the position where she found herself in a similar situation. She was broken and fell into the arms of the first man who showed her some attention.
