How did you meet your husband/ partner?

We met in Singapore in 1969. DH was at the British High Commission, and I was teaching at a British military school. We lived in the same housing complex which had a communal restaurant, bar, tennis/badminton courts etc. Just used to see each other around and one night he asked if I'd like to go to the cinema with him. And that was it! He was 25, I was 23. And we lived in sin! Married 46 years until he died 4 years ago.

On the train. I had got into the wrong carriage - and the train split at Clapham Junction. When I realised this, last train, not a penny left, and of course no phone in those days - I asked the young man opposite ' where is this train going? I think I am on the wrong train' - 'Twickenham' he said. I told him I was ont he wrong train and asked for help. The rest is history.

Will be 52 years at Easter.

I have had a few boyfriends and 3 husbands, so I had to think about it - my first love I met through work, my first husband I also met though work and my second husband at a house party. My current husband was introduced to me by his ex- wife. I’d like to point out that they were divorced and he was visiting to see his kids. He came out for a drink with a crowd of us and asked to be introduced to me. My first childhood boyfriend (when I was about 13/14) I met at the park on a Sunday morning when Mum thought that my sister and I were at Sunday school and we used to sneak off to the park instead ?

I met my husband in a late night bar in my hometown - I was onstage at the time with the male stripper! We were both there with friends but left together - and married a year and a day after we met. 33 wonderful years before he sadly died on Christmas Day just gone

My DH worked as a teller in a bank I used to visit for the company I worked for at the time. Apparently I was "discussed" between him and the manager who told him to get his skates on and ask me out. Happened to bump into him in the street and the rest is history.

I met my first husband through church when visiting his congregation.

Eventually we decided to meet up over a long weekend (all above board I can assure you!) and we realised that we really liked each other.

He apparently fell in love with me that weekend after going to a medieval festival - I saw a snake being handled and went to stroke it, and that was a defining moment for him but he didn't tell me until months later. I really liked him. He was a complete gentleman and earned my trust, and that was what made me fall in love with him over period of time.

We eventually got engaged. A year after that we got married in the buff in a warm country in the middle of no-where. Thankfully a priest agreed to marry us and understood why we wanted to get married in the manner we did (we come naked into this world as babies, innocent, nothing to hide. We wanted to enter our marriage - a new life together, nothing to hide), and the lass who took our photos was agreeable as she was into body positivity.

He was a Boy Scout I was a Girl Guide, we met at a joint camp. Went our separate ways then met again in our 20s….

Very similar here - he was in the Venture Scouts, I was a Guide. We went on our first date the week after my 16th birthday and here we are, still together after almost 43 years (married for 38 of those).

My DH was a friend of my DB and SisIL.
My mother met him before I did and said he was wonderful.

I said he sounded absolutely awful, not my type at all, but when I did meet him he wasn't as bad as I thought he'd be!

I met my OH when he was the taxi driver who came to pick me up from work. It was a regular run for the large firm that employed him and a ‘good earner’ for whichever driver had the job each day. So I was surprised when he turned up every evening for weeks. Turned out he was paying the radio controller for the job ( but when asked why he kept getting this plum job he told the other drivers that I had asked for him specially!) We had 20 happy years together before he passed away.

Love these tales . 1st March 1977, regular weds night disco at the local football club for teenagers. He’d been “courting” one of my school friends but they’d fallen out and he walked me to the bus stop . He was like a breath of fresh air compared to the lads from my school. I was 14 he was 15. Here we are nearly 45 years later still nattering.

We met at a rehearsal for our local amateur dramatics group’s annual Panto. I was new to the group and he wasn’t originally in the show but another actor dropped out so he stepped in to help. We hit it off immediately and became friends. In the following production we were cast as a couple. And the rest as they say is history. A few years later he proposed on the same stage in front of the entire cast and crew! There’s 18 years age difference and a lot of people thought it wouldn’t last. We’ve been together 15 years now.

I met my first husband when he and 3 other young lads came to join the dancers for a production of White Horse Inn at our local Op and Dram Society, we married 2 years later.
My second husband and I met through a 'Lonely Hearts' column in the local paper, I answered an ad he'd placed, we were together 16 years, married for almost 11 when passed away suddenly at the age of 55.

Got off the train at Edinburgh Waverley and waved to a girl friend who was waiting for me on the platform.
The next week in Glasgow I was approached by a chap at a party. He told me he had been standing by chance just beside the friend I had waved to and at that moment he had thought I was waving at him. We chatted on and found out we had both just moved to Edinburgh and he was a colleague of my sisters boyfriend. Job done.

I met my hubby in 86, before I was 18 and working at a local hotel - he was a regular in the bar. Asked me out between shifts on a Wednesday afternoon. We have been married 36 years

I went to a pub with a divorced friend who didn’t get out much as she had a young child. My late husband came in with a friend and they were looking over at us. My friend said he must be married he is too good looking.not to be! Well a year later he did get married to me!

My now husband and I met at the church youth club in 1965 when I was 15 and he was 16 and we became really good friends. (He wasn't interested in taking things any further!) As we got older we went our separate ways and both married other people and were only in touch with a Christmas card each year.
In 1984 my then husband died very suddenly and a few years later I heard that husband no 2 and his wife had divorced. To cut a long story short, my now husband invited myself and my 2 children to stay for a weekend when we were on our way back from being on holiday in the same sort of area as he was living. We picked up as if we'd seen each other the previous day rather than 25 years earlier. Later in the year he and his 3 children came to stay with us and the rest, as they say, is history. We've now been married for 25 years and our 5 children have provided us with 9 beautiful grandchildren.

I met my first husband, a GI at a dance when I was in the WAAF. I stayed in when off duty while he was away until I heard from his mates that he had been been seeing another woman so a friend and I went to a pub one evening. A sailor came and asked me out and when I refused stole me gloves. It was cold weather and I had cycled from my billet. Then a Grenadier Guardsman came over and said he would get my gloves back if I would go to the cinema with him next evening. I consented and turned up with my girl friend. He had my gloves and he took us both to the cinema. A Rita Hayworth film. We were married three years later.

After splitting from my ex husband, I tried several of the dating sites but never seemed to meet anyone that seemed to be my Mr Right for one reason or another. Fast forward a year and I was somewhat despairing of the situation, vowing if things didn't improve and I reached 50 dates, then that would be it, I'd just give up on meeting anyone else and focus on the single life. With that number ever looming, I was hardly optimistic when I agreed to meet up for a drink with Mr L, we'd been chatting online on Plenty of Fish for a while but as he lived a hour and a half a way, distance was going to be an issue. Well we did meet up, just clicked and turned out he was my "sole mate" after all. We've been together 14 years now and number wise he was number 49, so he just made it (not that I ever told him that of course)!
