Did you know that collagen and gelatin are the same thing? It's called collagen inside the body and forms connective tissue i.e. skin, tendons, ligaments etc. It's called gelatin when skeletal tissue and other animal waste is rendered down as a by product of meat production. (Vegans and vegetarians take note! This is where collagen comes from whether you swallow it or apply it externally!) A rose by any other name...

Whatever the beauty industry tells us, (and they try hard to convince us), both substances are broken down to exactly the same amino acids in the digestive system and used to repair and build new proteins.

The offer of collagen powder on GN today normally retails at £6.25 per 100g (40% off your first order fetches it down to £2.50/100g. The offer is a 400g tub for £24.99)

Amazon sells a gelatin powder for approx £1.60 per 100g. Some is even cheaper.

paleoleap.com/all-about-gelatin-and-collagen Read right to the end of this one. It's not long winded and won't blind you with science! If it doesn't work as a link, just copy and paste or type it in.

I looked up the lingering after a funeral - and it is true! I also found out that putting a stamp on a letter upside down is an act of treason. I accidentally did this last week. Anxiously awaiting my arrest!

The article in the quote says "Meghan Markle is a descendant of both King Edward III, and King Henry VIII’s third wife Jane Seymour, according to genealogists." Not very good genealogists if they do say exactly that, or not a very good reporter if they misquoted the genealogists.

I have read that Meghan Markle is descended from King Edward and Jane Seymour. Who knew?

I believe it says she is linked to them, her 12th great grandmother was 2nd cousin to Jane Semour, Henry and Jane had one son, Edward who produced no heirs before he died so he has no descendants. But even so she has tried to break links with Royalty.

Incidentally I did know about pineapples, from watching the film Blue Hawaii in the 60s and no, I can't lick my elbows. grin

A false claim. Ancestry found that "Jane was a second cousin to Isabel Hildyard, Meghan’s 12th great-grandmother" But being descended from Jane Seymour's second cousin is nowhere near the same as being descended from Jane Seymour.

For that, MM would need to have a direct line back to Edward VI, the son of King Henry VIII by Jane. Edward died on 6 July 1553 aged 15 with no children.

In the USA, some hair products advertise that they contain placenta.

Toiletries with placenta have been round since the 1970s at least.

I can, though I have often heard that it is impossible.

How many more of you can, too?

I've been to the Galapagos and saw towns there and houses out in the country. Unfortunately the inhabitants also have pet dogs and cats which ravage the wildlife.
Did you know that in the Galapagos the wildlife is so tame that you can actually go up to nesting birds and seals etc and they display no signs of fear? Did you know that on the inhabited islands the seals actually get up onto public benches and sleep on them? Nobody is allowed to disturb them.

The balcony, where Shakespeare had Romeo pledge his undying love to Juliet. ... This balcony wasn't even added to the facade of the house until 1936. In fact, the balcony was actually taken from an ancient sarcophagus and re-purposed to match the Medieval. A local guide told us this shattering news.

But it was never a true story ?

Always thought a fruit was whatever was produced after a plant had flowered and was produced above ground. At least that's what I was taught in good old botany at school.

Pineapples don’t grow on trees, they grow in the ground. Both hubby and I (with 3 degrees between us) were surprised to learn this when we visited South America. We both believed, prior to our visit that they grew on trees! ?

Presumably in is a typo, Stella
They don't grow in the ground but on low plants and grow up on the end of a stalk.
It's a bromeliad.

Nutmeg is hallucinogenic if used in large enough amounts. So just be careful (or not!) when adding a pinch to your rice pudding!!

As a student nurse, I remember being amazed that I could have a full conversation with a man who was having brain surgery Serendipity

I love facts like that.

Same, Meryl.

Another one I love is that there is more time separating a Stegosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus Rex, than a Tyrannosaurus Rex and us.

Blows my mind!

I will pass that one to dinosaur obsessed Gds - thank you, GG65!
