Has anyone here ever had a reading and if so, were you glad you did? I ask because I feel I really need to do this. I lost someone and there are so many unanswered questions. I've never been sure if I believe in mediums or not, but some people do and I would like to try.

Sadly I think you will never find the answers to your questions.
If there were spirits of our dead relatives I’m sure that they would find a way to communicate with us don’t you?
However if you feel the need then by all means try it, but don’t give any details away at all, use a false name if necessary, you will be surprised at how much information is online about you, mediums have been known to look online for clues about their potential customers and don’t part with too much money.
A friend of a friend is a very plausible medium, but he used to sell second hand cars for a living and he asked if I wanted a reading and it would be £70! No thank you very much, especially as he knows a lot about me already! I wouldn't even have bought a car from him back in the day.

I personally would not waste my money- I do not believe in any of it.

If she, and they are usually female, made their money doing this it is obviously not working for them because I doubt if she lives in a million pound home etc.

Be very careful!

If you are in a vulnerable state then you might give away information that they could use to create a reading. You have to be smart, do not tell them anything at all, not who the person is, what sex they are, when they died, nothing. Absolutely nothing. If they then come up with information they could not possibly have known then maybe they are genuine. Don't forget they may find something on social media. Some mediums are genuine but some are not. Also, they have no control over what comes through, so if nothing happens then it means they are not receiving anything. Some mediums are much better than others and may receive something whereas a different medium may receive nothing. Good luck but be careful.

Just to add, you need to decide whether you will believe what they tell you or not. A difficult decision. If you don't like what they tell you then it may upset you. But is it true? How will you know? You only have their word for it. So will you believe it?

You may be better off having some counseling to help you process your thoughts and the need to find answers that presumably the living cannot answer.

There has never been any scientific proof that mediums are genuine. Ordinarily, I would say that if it would give you comfort then go ahead in the same way that people get comfort from believing in a god. However in this case you want answers to questions that an outsider would not know.

I believe that some people do have the gift of being able to communicate with those who have died but there are also charlatans out there who cash in on vulnerable people. It's something I've considered but never done. I think Chestnut's advice is very sound. Think very carefully and choose very carefully.

My sister did this and he told her things no one could have known. She did take comfort in his words but I also think it frightened her he knew so much. It was her son she was asking about who had died in very sad circumstances so many questions unanswered.

No. As a Christian I know the Bible advises against trying to contact the dead. It’s made quite clear that dead people cannot return to talk to us.

It’s not loss of money I’d worry about here.

I had a reading done a,while back, and the woman got absolutely everything wrong.
There were long embarrassing silences and I would have felt quite sorry for her had she not still charged me 40 quid.

I can’t believe they are anything but clever charlatans, preying on the often distressed and vulnerable. As has been said be careful what you say, give them no information at all and preferably don’t give your money to them either.

I don't believe they are all charlatans. Some definitely are, and I wouldn't pay anyone a lot of money. I do believe some people have a gift that can't be explained and I think they are unlikely to charge a lot of money. I'm a Christian but would consult someone I thought to be genuine. I believe that if God has given someone that gift it's not wrong to use it. I would never play with a ouija board though. I have heard awful stories of what can be conjured up.

As teenagers we used a glass and letters in a circle and I can tell you it wasn't one of us pushing that glass! It would move very suddenly and violently sometimes, shoot across the table with force. And one time the glass suddenly shot right off the table and smashed. We had questions answered but not in a nice way. They seemed to be mischievous spirits not benevolent ones. I wouldn't recommend it because nothing good or worthwhile ever came of it. This is not the same as a session with a medium.

Yes I have been to a medium many times and mostly found it to be a helpful experience. I would suggest however that you see someone who has been personally recommended to you. And let the medium do all the talking, just say as little as possible, and then you will know how good they are.

NO, dangerous nonsense.

Allsorts Fri 25-Feb-22 18:52:29

I wouldn’t waste my money. What’s gone is history what’s to come a mystery that cannot be changed.
