Kind gesture but did nothing for my ego!

In a small shop yesterday, went to the checkout and the operator took my bag and packed for me, all the time asking me how I was, my plans for the day etc. She then said "I know it is hard for older people at the moment so you take care!"

I thanked her for her kindness but left the shop thinking I must look a lot older than I feel!

Yep. 'To see ourselves as others see us' springs to mind. I always remember at 18 thinking 46 was old. Huh!

I hope she packed it well. Most people are a bit clueless about how to pack a bag.

Sounds like a lovey lady.

Luckygirl3 - yes she was a lovely lady and despite her final comment I will be shopping there again! Baggs she packed the bag well - better than I would have done in fact!

Have you ever experienced the Beavers on the supermarket checkouts, packing your goods to raise money?
Scary, but you can't fault their enthusiasm!

I thought you meant real ones for a minute. I know they're clever animals but I didn't know they were that good! smile

I take all such gestures as being meant kindly; and I would rather have such kindness than have people keep their mouths shut for fear of offence.
