Dopplegangers?

Although we are much more mobile these days, there are still families who stay in the same area. I live in an area where an awful lot of people look just like me!

I must have a double as a colleague once insisted she saw me in a market town which I rarely visit. She went on and on despite my protests that it wasn't me. "You looked right through me, you ignored me, you didn't say hello, etc". No, it still wasn't me.

Funny thing is, my sister's husband has a double in that exact same town, he even drives the same model of car. Imagine if the two were seen together. That's how rumours start!

When I was about 18 there was a girl who I was told was the spitting image of me. We happened to be at the same disco one night but unfortunately because I'm as blind as a bat without my specs which I never, ever wore 'around town' I couldn't see her well enough to know if we were indentical!

Years ago friends kept asking me when I got my new car. I didn't have a new car, but apparently "I" had been seen driving around the town in a red car. My car at that time was black.

My son's nickname during his teens was Dawson, from Dawson's Creek.
Even I thought the resemblance was uncanny

Lucca That website is amazing. I would definitely have a DNA test with my double because it's hard to believe someone could look so alike and not be related. You'd want to confirm it one way or another.

Regularly, when I was a teenager, people would say they had seen me in town when I knew I hadn't been there. Much much later when I retrained as a teacher I met and became friends with a lovely woman and we look so alike! I've often wondered if it was her who people thought was me.

It often happens to me! People mistake me for someone else. A few years ago I was in a hotel and a lady ran up to me and threw her arms round me saying “ Monica , how wonderful to see you again!” She was elated and I had to explain that my name was not Monica. I felt very sad for her , she was convinced she had been reunited with a long lost friend. Me being mistaken for someone else is not unusual.

Many years ago we used to visit a small family run garden centre. The lady always gave my Dh a reduced bill and was always very friendly towards him. We think he must have had a dopple- ganger ! ??

A strange man once greeted me cordially in a supermarket. He plainly thought he knew me and seemed surprised at my reaction. He wasn't a creepy chap and seemed perfectly pleasant but I'd never seen him before in my life.
I later wondered if he'd met my sister via a dating site she was on. I know I look quite like her. I'll never know of course.

It's quite creepy really. Someone said I had a double once but I've never met anyone like me. I lived in London so the chances of seeing my double were slim. I would love to see a double, anyone's double would do!

I think someone should set up a website where people post pictures of themselves and you can search it for your double (or anyone's double).

There’s a photographer who has taken photos of doubles …people unrelated. I’ll try to find it.

Not exactly a coincidence, as we are related, but when I looked at pictures of some of my father's cousins when they were young it was akin to looking into a mirror. (Unfortunately this didn't tell me which side of my father's family I most resemble, because their parents were the brother and sister of my grandparents! Two brothers married two sisters.) Years later, I was showing Hubby some photos of my grandparents and their families when they were young. According to Hubby, I very strongly resemble my father's maternal grandmother.

I am so intrigued to meet mine, but I think it would freak me out. Coming face to face with your double must be a very strange experience.

My oldest grandson always used to insist that Judith Chalmers was my mum.

Lots of interesting stories. It is such a strange experience, mine has stayed with me all my life. I did eventually catch up with my friend 3 children and a divorce later (her not me)!

Do you know, I think I have heard of a site that does just that, chestnut.

I have never met my double but my son has. He approached a lady and was about to say “ Hello Mum”. Realised it wasn’t and wondered if it was my sister who was adopted as a baby. She walked dressed and seemed thesame.He was very careful what he said. Her father had been a policeman as had my missing sister. “I” have been four sightings in all locally. Made me wonder.
Time went on . Decided to do DNA thing. Nothing. Then at end of last year got contacted and anyhow found my sister. Lovely. She looks nothing like me and lives 400 miles away!!! So now know. But perhaps another secret sister!!!

I watched a video a while back of people who had met their double.
It's uncanny how alike they are.

It is really fascinating to look at historical portraits and be sure you recognise someone you know.

In the 1970's when I lived near Chester I was frequently mistaken for someone else. After realising I wasn't who they expected people always remarked 'you have a double'. Unfortunately, I never met her. I was once in a shop and on seeing a friend, tapped her on the shoulder saying 'hello Maud'. The lady turned around. It wasn't my friend , but she said, 'my name is Maud'. Not too many Mauds around, so what a coincidence.

We were in New York on holiday, this particular day we decided to visit the Statue if Liberty. As we queued for the boat to take us across, my daughter nudged me and nodded her head towards a man who obviously worked for the tourist trip we had booked with.

There stood to my left was my son ( not ), i looked and looked again, absolute identical.

I almost ran up to him with my daughter in tow and explained my hysteria ( hahaha poor fella ) i asked if i could have my photo taken with him, which he very kindly allowed.
