I’m travelling by train tomorrow leeds to Manchester effectively with DgC. Should I be worried ?

Lots of Devon's schools on shut down tomorrow. DGS' class spent the afternoon fastening down things in the playground. A good lesson to learn!

My house is safe, it is a new build but if I lived in an older house, I would seriously think about sleeping downstairs tonight

We are in a red zone, school are all closed, my husband says he’s going to get into work really early to try and beat it, I shall see what I think in the morning.
My daughter has just come home, and she stays it’s eerily calm out there.
Really must be the calm before the storm.

Our next door has a HUGE sycamore that bends with the west winds into our garden. It has already broken a wall.Lots of big branches came off a couple of years ago. They will do not do anything about it.
We had our trees topped a few months ago and the chap told us that was the one that needed attention.
We are hoping for a good outcome, if it goes east it takes out a wall and our new gates and my car. If south all the overhead cables and blocks the high way, north it will be our house.
Luckily we are not in the red zone but have snow predicte. My
dd's are, we have been swopping ways to prepare, torches, everything charged up ,check if schools are open for GC. Go no where if not needed and GS brought down out of his attic bedroom.
Maybe we are panicking or maybe just being prepared.
DH is very calm and says they always predict the worst scenario we all hope he is right.

some of the amber zone are predicted winds that will overlap with the red zone. There is very good reason to be worried. Flood defences have gone up and the ground is wet and very many trees will be blown over, ash trees dead and dying, pine trees with shallow roots etc Pressure changes in buildings will cause roofs and skylights to be sucked off. Eunice is going to be devastating

I am as prepared as I can be, bins etc are in my garage, I have been following the progress of the various models and this coming storm will be an absolute monster. Government advice is to not go out. I am in red zone. Grandma70, don`t be embarrassed, your sons decision is very sensible

I wasn’t scared until I read Shandy’s post re the Northumberland notice. (Not your fault Shandy). I’ m just such an anxious person. I’m sitting here trying to picture my children’s houses. There’s a chimney over my bedroom . But I shall not worry ?

We are travelling to a funeral about a 100 miles away.
Not sure if we will get there?.

Yes very worried. Amber zone - just watched the weather news on Sky (just to make me feel worse!). Hope everything is ok for everyone.

My daughter and family are travelling to Heathrow for a holiday that was cancelled from last year due to covid. I have the biggest tree in the world overhanging my house. It can’t be taken down as it’s in a conservation area. I try not to think about it given that I can’t actually see it. I’ll be glad when this weekend is over.

BBbevan Thu 17-Feb-22 21:06:07

Yes We are in a red area and surrounded by big trees. Very near the sea too. Roll on Saturday night. Hope everyone gets through it alright.

I’m just annoyed. I had a dental appointment tomorrow, but I can’t go on my own, and son was driving some distance to take me. He’s decided it’s too risky and has turned back home. We are in the amber zone and I feel embarrassed that I’ll have to cancel my appointment. Of course, if the weather here tomorrow is as bad as they predict (which I’m cynical about) I may be glad not to go!

Nonogran

Im in the red zone so I’m changing bedrooms. Massive tree at rear, in neighbours garden. Would kill me in my bed if it falls.
I’ll probably sleep through it because I’m totally deaf without hearing aids!
Bins lashed down. Car moved out of harms way. Fingers crossed.

I hope our tree doesn't go and fall this way - we can't go any further away from it except in the back garden.

Shandy57 Thu 17-Feb-22 20:51:52

I'm worried, Northumberland County Council have issued many announcements, including moving your bed away from under chimneys. I lost my flat roof in Storm Arwen and hope this new one can withstand it.

VioletSky Thu 17-Feb-22 20:51:18

Nonogrsn good idea!

Hope it's not too bad where you are rockgran

rockgran Thu 17-Feb-22 20:48:55

Our greenhouse barely survived the last one. Not looking forward to this one.

I’m not worried for us , as we are in the amber zone, but for friends and relatives in the red zone.

Patsy70 Thu 17-Feb-22 20:38:59

I’m trying not to be, VioletSky but my granddaughter is travelling back from a school ski trip in Austria on a coach tonight to Kent. I’m sure they will be fine, but we still worry, don’t we?

ShazzaKanazza Thu 17-Feb-22 20:37:02

I am concerned. We are in the amber zone so not quite as bad for us. Worried about anyone travelling tomorrow. I won’t be going anywhere. Wishing everyone in the red zone a safe day tomorrow. Hope you don’t suffer any damage to property. Take care!

Callistemon21 Thu 17-Feb-22 20:33:59

Yes!

We've moved the cars away from under a tree and DH has lashed all the bins together. Of course, if they do go it will make an almighty noise.
Some schools are shut tomorrow.

I hope no-one has to be out tonight for any reason.

VioletSky Thu 17-Feb-22 20:30:02

I don't know why I am because no one around me seems worried.

I've secured all my bins and garden furniture!
